Double Thumbs Dresses #8

Whoopsy daisy! I’m once again slightly late with my round up of the dresses worthy of the highly coveted She and Hem Double Thumbs Up seal of approval. Or, as I like to think, I’m just fashionably late….

Soft Serving of Style Dress $74.99 (£49) from Modcloth
A Biscuit, a Basket Dress $82.99 (£55) from Modcloth

First up we have two tasty frocks from the consistently amazing Modcloth! The ice-cream print dress will surely sprinkle some joy over your wardrobe with it’s delicious mint colouring and row upon row of tempting lemon and vanilla cones. It’s made from a lovely thick cotton and the a-line shape means that it’s super flattering. A FAB summer dress! Meanwhile, the biscuit print dress is bourbon on the ridiculous! The whole biscuit family is represented in this stunner of a dress, right down to the jammy dodger. Nice!

Purple and Yellow Floral Crochet Waist Dress £14.99 from New Look

Tis the season for pretty, floaty, floral numbers and this dress from New Look will certainly have you hay-feverish as it ticks all of those boxes, plus the all important under £20 box! Yippee! Purple and yellow is one of my favourite colour combinations which possibly explains why I was so drawn to this dress. Sadly for me, I already own an embarrassing amount of little floral dresses but none of them have an adorable crochet lace panel at the waist so maybe, just maybe, this might have to be mine.

Clementine Dress £59 from Monsoon

This beautiful vintage inspired number from Monsoon is just perfect for summer occasions. I think the floral print is just gorgeous and has a wonderful mix of corals, mustards, blues and greens. The scooped neckline, full skirt and pleated waistband all add to its charm.

Hearts Print Dress £34.99 from Mango

It was certainty love at first sight with this adorable navy heart print dress from Mango. It’s made from chiffon so definitely good for a twirl or two, it has beautiful buttons leading up to the scooped neckline and, most important of all, it has hidden pockets! Merciful heavens!

Jacquard Skater Dress £16.00 from Matalan

Hey look it’s another little floral number! But this time, this one has sleeves! And if it’s one thing that improves a dress, it’s a good sleeve. Matalan have this wonderful skater dress in a variety of colours and styles but this one is my absolute favourite! I just love the woven jacquard (you’ll need to go zoom in on the website for that particular insight) which gives it a far more expensive feel than it’s £16 price-tag and the print is just so so pretty. One flor-al occasions, if you will.

Spilsbury Dress £89.50 from Jack Wills

Jack Wills have come up with this fabulous 60’s inspired dress which I have a serious style crush on! I always love a good collar and that one is just screaming out for some fun collar clips! I think it’s possibly a bit too short for work, which is a shame, but it’s definitely a great day dress that could easily be taken through into evening wear with a pair of chunky black platform shoes and some retro accessories.

Hell Bunny Sunrise 50’s Dress £44.99 from Soho’s

Last but not least is this fab 50’s frock from Soho’s, who I stumbled upon whilst browsing Pinterest and then spent the next hour lusting over all of their dresses! After a lengthy internal debate, I eventually settled on this aqua blue dress due to it’s cheerful pattern of sunflowers and daisies. I love the large Peter Pan collar and the full skirt, which would look amazing with a big 50’s style petticoat underneath. Accessories fans will also be pleased to learn that the white belt is included in the price. Wizard!

See you next week!

Accessories to Murder #4

Good evening everyone! Victoria is usually the Queen of  the to die for accessories but sadly for us she has had to don the ultimate accessory, her marigolds. Good luck with the big clean, V! Instead, for one week and one week only, I am the one to take you down this dangerous (for your bank balance) path towards Accessories to Murder.

Tropical Butterfly Feather Hair Clip £3.50 (each) from Beauxoxo

First up we have these absolutely beautiful, and rather realistic, butterfly hair accessories from Beauxoxo. I think there’s something rather magical about them and I love how the model is wearing a veritable *looks up collective noun for butterflies* rabble of them in her hair, producing a rather ethereal effect.  They come in a range of different styles, sizes and colours to suit your taste and are sold individually. I’m think they would make a super pretty addition to a summer wedding outfit!

Cat Face Locket by Bonbi Forest £5.70 (was £19) at Soma Gallery

Bonbi Forest make some pretty darn awesome stuff and this original illustration locket is no exception. The gold necklace contrasting with the cat’s face is absolutely stunning and I love the little bow. It’s currently on sale at the wonderful Bristol based Soma Gallery which makes it a must for all cat loving necklace enthusiasts.

Owl Wooden Collar Clips £12 from Ladybirdlikes

I am lucky enough to own these head turning collar clips from Ladybirdlikes and I can’t tell you the amount of compliments they receive! I was slightly scpetical of collar clips as they aren’t something I had ever really considered as ‘being me’ but now that I’ve started I can’t stop! They really do jazz up a shirt and given my love for all things collar related,  it only makes sense that I would enjoy adorning them with novelty animals.

Blue Milkshake Ankle Socks £3.50 from Topshop

Topshop sure know their fun hosiery and I have a serious crusha on these milkshake print socks. I dairy you to find a better pair to keep your lac-toes warm. Well, I think it’s safe to say I’ve milked that for all it’s worth. In summary: great socks.

Icelolly Necklace £2.50 from Kukee

Time for something refreshing in the form of these rather cool icelolly necklaces from Kukee. I love the amount of detail they have included, especially those little bites. I think the yellow one is my favourite but it’s a close run thing! One things for certain, these necklaces might be as sweet as candy but they sure are as cheap as chips.

I Like You More Than Cheese on Toast Badge £9 by Alice Shields from Objets de Desir

And last but not least is this wonderful brooch from Alice Shields (check her out – she’s incredible!) who thinks it’s totally OK to prefer people to cheese on toast, which it isn’t Alice. It isn’t. Beans on toast maybe but cheese? No way. The brooch is great though so I will let you off this time. You can get your hands on one by visiting the Objets de Désir website which we just so happened to blog about last week! Neat!

I’m off to eat some cheese on toast now.

Game, set and match

Pass me a Pimms, Wimbledon has arrived! And I, for one, never pass up an opportunity to eat my body weight in strawberries. Now, I’m hardly a tennis aficionado but I like to think I know my tennis arse from my tennis elbow and as a result I would like to share with you some, occasionally tenuous, tennis inspired delights.

Catalina Off The Shoulder Skater Dress in White £38 from Motel

Motel get the game underway with this whiter than white off the shoulder number. This dress is so simple yet completely stunning and will certainly make a Ball Boy or two blush with its length! If you’re a mucky pup, it also comes in a variety of other colours.

Ball Print Blouse £32 (was £42) from Oasis

This Oasis ball print blouse is the ace up my sleeve with its super flattering shape. I love the gold button detailing and the adjustable sleeves. This is ‘Grand Slam’ winning attire.

Wimbledon Ball Cord Bracelet £65 from Links of London

As the official jewellery brand of the Wimbledon Championships (obviously), it’s no surprise to discover that Links of London have brought out lots of cute tennis related items. I really like how they have made a literal ‘tennis bracelet’ and incorporated those snazzy purple and greens that are so synonymous with Wimbledon into the design. I can’t fault this one.

Petit Bateau Sleeveless Tennis Dress £40 (was £58) from Urban Outfitters

Time to serve you up something special! Release your inner 60’s tennis totty in this mustard tennis dress from Urban Outfitters. I love the retro feel and, of course, that super cute collar.

Cotton Tote Bag £70 from Fred Perry

I couldn’t compile a tennis list and not include something from Fred Perry! I just love the classic vibe this bag gives off and it’s pretty darn functional to boot with a variety of straps, hands and pockets.

Table Tennis Bat Earrings £3 by Polka Dot Sky from Folksy

What do you mean they don’t play table tennis at Wimbledon? That’s outrageous. They are seriously missing out! Nevertheless, I shall persevere as these brilliant bat and ball earrings from Polka Dot Sky are simply great! Maybe a touch more McEnroe than Savile Row.

Cream cricket jumper £12 (was £22) from Dorothy Perkins

New balls please, we appear to have switched sports. I think this lovely cricket jumper from Dorothy Perkins works just as well for tennis as both sports are, quite rightly, happy to embrace a cable knit. You don’t even like tennis? No problem! You can whack it on during the Ashes in a couple of weeks time, presuming Summer hasn’t decided to arrive.

Lasting Finish Fruities Nail Polish £2.99 by Rimmel from Boots

And finally,no true Wimbledon experience is complete without the faint waft of strawberries filling the air. I rate Rimmel nail varnish very highly in terms of price and not destroying itself 35 seconds after being applied. I am yet to try out the effectiveness of their scented range but the reviews look promising.

Double Thumbs Dresses #7

Break out your Sunday best, I’m here with a slightly later than usual round up of the dresses worthy of the highly coveted She and Hem Double Thumbs Up seal of approval.  I shan’t keep you any longer….

Up, Up, and Adorable Dress $79.99 (£52) from Modcloth

I know I have a tendency to get carried away but it was luft at first sight when I saw this appear on Modcloth! I need this dress so much I could pop! My ego would be seriously inflated wearing this. OK, that’s probably enough of that now.

Sweet Spring Time £29.67 from Lovely Melody Clothing

I discovered Lovely Melody Clothing over on Paige’s blog and, just like Paige, fell in love with their collection of gorgeous girly dresses. Their Etsy page is an absolute wonderland of vintage inspired treasures and it was quite the task to just pick one to feature! I eventually settled on this tie back, fairyland and candy print number due to the fact it contains not just cake but also a merry-go-round. Seriously, what more do you people want?

Kelly Tie Waist Button Through Floral Skater £20 from Boohoo

Two pieces appear to be making an unlikely comeback, which frightens me and my appendix scar no end I can tell you. This tie waist dress from Boohoo might just be the answer I’ve been looking for as it reveals just the faintest bit of flesh around the old belly button area, giving the illusion of a two piece but without the commitment! I adore that bold floral print and, at £20, it’s a bit of a bargain too.

South Teapot Print Dress £39 from Very

This isn’t the best quality picture of  Very‘s teapot print dress, but trust me when I say you’ll feel like royal tea in this beauty. I just love the detailing in the print with those little teapots, teacups and saucers. With the flattering cut designed to cover one lump or two, this dress is just my cup of tea.

Unico Fluro Contrast Dress £42 from Lashes of London

This gorgeous pastel unicorn print dress is just so childish and reminiscent of My Little Pony that it’s making me want to crack open the Cherryade and play ‘Pass the parcel’. However, those childish memories are long forgotten once you turn the dress around and see the backless wonder, which includes a wonderful gold heart, that awaits you!  I make that two Double Thumbs weeks on the trot for Lashes of London, sterling work.

Daisy Dress £39.50 from Marks and Spencers

You’ll be the pick of the bunch in this rather spiffing daisy print dress from M&S‘ Limited Collection. I would personally describe this as the perfect work dress. It’s a good length and neckline for both flattering you and keeping you smart, it has hidden pockets and, don’t quote me on this, Limited Collection dresses are usually good to wear without ironing! I love everything about the daisy print and am pretty darn excited about the flared hem too.

She and Home: Objets De Désir

Last Wednesday we hopped on down to the opening of Objets De Désir, a new pop up shop in Bristol, that will be selling its wares until July 18th. This lovely new boutique is the brain child of Rachel Drake, who has lovingly selected new and established designers in order to create a collection of unique, fun and beautiful lifestyle products. The shop is a virtual Aladdin’s Cave of delightful jewellery, adorable accessories and homeware and some of the best darn owls you will ever see! Despite being a Bristol based pop-up shop, Objets De Désir is a new online boutique allowing you all to enjoy their handpicked selection of emerging designers and artists.

DSC_0165 DSC_0172 DSC_0177 DSC_0182

On arrival we were greeted by the lovely Rachel, who was super enthusiastic about her new venture and very kindly presented us each with a glass of bubbly and a delightful goody bag (more on that later!). We then had a little browse and fell in love with everything! To our surprise we also bumped into the lovely Pandora, from Petit Dora, who we had previously met at the Crafty Blogger Meet. It was lovely to see her again, and to make a new friend in Bristol based blogger Michelle from Eclectic Threads. Check out their blogs to see their thoughts on Objets De Désir.

Victoria: After work on Wednesday I rushed home excitedly and pulled out this peach and tan Primark dress from my overflowing wardrobe. It was a warm evening, so I wanted something to wear that I didn’t need a coat with, and this fitted the bill perfectly. I love the clash of colours on this dress, the long statement zip on the back, and I’m a big fan of any dress with which has sleeves. My stripy brown tights are from M&S, and the amazing nail varnish featured in the second picture is from Nails Inc. I’ve never worn a nail varnish which has had so many compliments, it is such a versatile shade.

Jo: In typical Workwear Wednesday style, I headed down into town straight from work. This outfit is slightly jazzier than my usual efforts but as I knew I was going to be schmoozing and boozing I decided to push the boundaries. I love this shirt dress from M&S Limited Collection, I think the design is really unusual and I love the 60’s influences. I accessorised it with collar clips from Ever Ours, which were actually a free gift when I bought something else! I also decided it was the day to break our my new giraffe tights from Topshop! Turns out if you wear giraffes on your legs the world and his wife will stop you to talk about them! They are pretty great though. My boots are from Urban Outfitters.

So! After all that hard shopping, chatting and a couple of glasses of bubbly, we decided the night was still young and went for a cheeky G&T at The Big Chill. Here, we delved into our awesome goody bags which came in the form of a wonderful Deborah Ballinger tote bag. Each bag contained a few of the lovely items on sale in the shop, which was a lovely touch. We were both over the moon to discover that we each had been given the Rachel Loves Bob necklace that we had been eyeing up earlier, a Little Seeds owl magnet, an Alice Shields Brooch and some beautiful cards.

DSC_0239 DSC_0234 DSC_0227 DSC_0240

Thank you to Rachel for such a wonderful evening and such a generous bag of delights. Good luck with your new venture. We will no doubt be back very soon, as we have our eye on many an owl.

Accessories to Murder #3

Welcome to the third installment of Accessories to Murder. We’ve got an eclectic bunch for you this week, so let’s crack on!

cat shoes
Embroidered Kitty Flats, £16.39, Em and Sprout, via Etsy.

Paws for a minute! These are not your average mary janes. These Em and Sprout cat flats are cute and fun, without being too childish. Wearing a fun shoe (or two) is a mega easy way to add some personality to an outfit and leave you feline great. I could probably get away with these at work, whereas a cat dress would be a big no no… my boss would get really catty! They look super soft and I’m a big fan of the buckles. If you already own too many black shoes, they also come in red.

Cat Face Socks, £10, Urban Outfitters.

So we wouldn’t recommend you wear these cat items together, but we’d certainly want to be your friend if you did. I imagine it’s quite hard to make enemies when you have a curious cat on each knee cap. These grey knee high socks from Urban Outfitters are pretty special, and are an affordable £10, or £9 if you have an NUS card. If you are adventurous enough to try patterned knee highs, I think these would be a good place to start.

Personalised Instagram Camera Necklace, £11.80, Tyndall’s Polymerclay.
Personalised Instagram Camera Necklace, £11.80, Tyndall’s Polymerclay.

Time to expose an awesome necklace. We are big fans of Instagram (check us out here), and love the idea of having one of our Instagram pictures incorporated into a necklace. If you’re feeling a little  negative and don’t fancy having a personalised version, they also make an Instagram necklace without a picture for £8.52. You have to love Etsy with their crazy pricing, great for snapping a bargain. I think this would make a thoughtful unique gift for a instagramming  friend, especially as it comes in a lovely gift box. You could always ask for a photo of a cat or Ryan Gosling instead…

Animal Farm Earrings, £10.49, Designs By Annette

Designs By Annette make some fantastic earrings, and even though I don’t wear earrings and Animal Farm has caused me A LOT of stress over the years, I picked these to feature because they are pretty darn cool. Also, I love jewellery that’s different and you know that nobody else will be wearing. So much effort has gone into designing and creating every pair of earrings on Annette’s Etsy site, that it would be a crime not show you a few more. If you don’t like these, I promise you there will be something you do like.

Cake and Tea Earrings, £13.11, Designs By Annette.
Vintage Record Player Earrings, £11.14, Designs By Annette.

Perfect to wear to The Bristol Balloon Fiesta, this hot air balloon pendant below will have you floating on air. A friend wore this recently and I thought the balloon’s  pastel colours looked simple, yet summery. The ASOS necklace has an adjustable gold-tone chain, which is fantastic as you can change the length of the necklace depending on what you are wearing.

Pieces Gania Balloon Pendant Necklace, £12, ASOS.
Pieces Gania Balloon Pendant Necklace, £12, ASOS.

That’s all for now accessory fans,

Boombastic, Elephantastic

Mark my words folks, elephants are going to be massive! It’s a good job then that I’ve got a trunk full of unforgettable fashion for you to browse. Go forth!

Ellie Love Top Coral £34 from Sugarhill Boutique

First up we have the Sugarhill Boutique Ellie range which currently includes a top and a dress, both of which are available in either vibrant coral or retro aqua. I simply love the cut out heart in the top, it’s so unusual but yet completely wearable. The all over elephant print is just adorable and if you look closely the elephants trunks are even making little hearts to compliment the biggun’ at the top.  Marvelous.

Scarf in Elephant Print £8 (was £20) from Oasis

For practically peanuts you can keep your neck stylish with this glorious elephant print scarf from Oasis. At the risk of starting a stampede, it’s currently on sale.

Smock Dress In Elephant Jacquard £38 by ASOS

I do love a good smock, they are just so versatile and easy to wear. This super duper Kelly green ( AKA the best member of the Green family since Rachel) dress from ASOS features a veritable herd of elephants to keep you company and despite being a loose fit, will flatter any figure.

Brown Elephant Print Leather Satchel £109 from Zatchels

I think we all know by now that satchels are pretty popular around here and this gorgeous elephant print Zatchel is next on my ever increasing wishlist. The bags in this range are made  from a textured leather that is designed to perfectly emulate the look of elephant skin (notice how I say emulates? no real skins here please, cheers). The effect is beautiful, especially in the classic brown, but if you fancy something brighter the elephant range is also available in pink, blue and green.

Milly Collection Elephant Print Short £39.50 from Banana Republic

These shorts form part of Michelle Smith’s highly lusted after Milly Collection for Banana Republic and, much like the rest of the line, are super fun. The print on these shorts would look fab paired with a bright top and wedges.

Monochrome Elephant Print Slim Leg Trousers £16.99 from New Look

I have to admit I am a little bit afraid of patterned trousers but whenever I see them on other people they look so good! These snazzy elephant print trousers from New Look might just be the ones to make me take the plunge as even if I end up looking a dumbo, I’ll only be down £16.99.

NW3 Elephants Canvas Totes £15 from Hobbs

Totes amaze! How delightful are those laughing elephants? I am a big fan of this sturdy looking shopper from Hobbs and for £15 it ticks the practical yet fantastical box. Well done, everyone.

Elephant Print Bubble Hem Top £16 from Next

This pretty elephant print top from Next comes in a variety of colours but I’m rather partial to this pretty pink. It looks wonderfully soft and would look lovely thrown on with jeans or shorts. It’s a casual top but it has lots of lovely little details, like the little buttons and the turn up hems on the sleeves. I also adore the arm length and the bubble style hem means it will nicely disguise any unwanted junk in your trunk.

All hail the sale

Oh how we do love a good sale!  There is nothing like the giddy thrill of bagging a bargain, especially when it’s something you have previously lusted after. With Oasis, Warehouse, Lady V London, Laura Ashley, Phase Eight, Jaeger, Dorothy Perkins, Clarks, French Connection, Yumi and Whistles all launching sales this week it has been somewhat of a tab browsing frenzy here at She and Hem HQ. We decided it would be rude not to share some of our favourite picks with you! So, sit back, grab of cup of tea and enjoy the very first installment of All Hail the Sale.

Horse And Carriage Sundress £25 (was £45) from Oasis

Double Thumbs Dresses #6

Wahoo! It’s time for our weekly round up of all those lovely dresses that receive the highly coveted She and Hem Double Thumbs Up seal of approval. Hold on to your wallets, things are about to get tempting.

Polly Love Heart Smock £38 from Moddolly
Polly Love Heart Smock £38 from Moddolly

First up is this absolutely charming smock dress from the all round brilliant Moddolly. I can’t tell you how much I adore that huge aqua green Peter Pan collar! It’s such a playful number and I love how the model (the beautiful Dunya from Dearest Deer) has styled it with frilly socks. Socks and frocks are the perfect combo!

Pink and Navy Apple Print Dress £24.99 by Misumi at New Look

Core-blimey! You’ll be the apple of my eye (or someone else’s, if you find that a bit weird) in this fruity number from New Look. I actually can’t get over the detail of those apples, they are stunning! Everything about this vintage inspired dress is wonderful! The shape, colours, print and price! Bravo!

Pleated Printed Dress £39.99 from Zara

Ah Zara, you do know how to make an expensive looking dress and this edgy take on the floral print is case in point. I love the explosion of bright colours on display in this short but sweet number, so many in fact that it would go with anything! Personally, I would be tempted to go with more muted colours in order to let the dress do all the talking but if I owned some super bright orange shoes I’m not sure I would be able to restrain myself. I also feel I might have to adopt this models stance and expression for all future photographs.

Rainbow Tie Dye Skater Dress £50 from Lashes of London
Rainbow Tie Dye Skater Dress £50 from Lashes of London

This rainbow dress from Lashes of London is something else, isn’t it? My goodness. I’ve actually chosen to show you the back of the dress because it would simply be criminal of me not to share the beauty that is the big colourful bow with you. Swoon! The pastel colours are stunningly gorgeous, those shades just work so beautifully together. You would definitely have to be feeling confident to wear it though as I can imagine it would attract a lot of attention. Now, where’s my pot of gold?

Chelsie Water bottle print dress £139 from Ted Baker
Chelsie Water bottle print dress £139 from Ted Baker

Ted Baker are my absolute go to for pretty, floaty, feminine dresses.  This watercolour style print ticks all of those boxes and more. The details are simply breathtaking. I love all of the flowers in the water bottles, the cute little tie waist and the ruffles, oh the ruffles. Just looking at this  dress makes me want to float around at a summer wedding, perhaps whilst doing some post wine twirling. I would feel positively ethereal in this beauty.

Rebecca Navy Crochet Dress with Pinafore Front £60 from Dahlia
Rebecca Navy Crochet Dress with Pinafore Front £60 from Dahlia

Well hello Rebecca! If, like me, you are completely besotted with the current pinafore trend and yet also deeply alarmed by your own inability to wear them, then this is the dress for you! Stripped t-shirts worn under pretty pinafores are simply a match made in fashion heaven and clever old Dahlia have realised this and done us all a massive favour and combined the two. Gold star.

Womens Sheered Waist Dress £16 from Peacocks
Womens Sheered Waist Dress £16 from Peacocks

I think initially I was drawn to this Peacocks dress because it reminds me of a Death Cab for Cutie album but, hey, it all worked out for the best as those colours are pretty darn awesome and the cinched in waist is super flattering. Not words you could use to describe Death Cab for Cutie, no siree. Peacocks describe it as “the perfect summer dress” but with those lovely sleeves and buttoned up top I would be extremely happy wearing this to work.

Puffin Print Joy Peplum Dress £40 from People Tree
Puffin Print Joy Peplum Dress £40 from People Tree

Where the chuffin heck was this dress a couple of weeks ago when I was compiling my list of bird prints for Toucan Play That Game? Do People Tree not realise just how much huffin and puffin was occurring? I’m not going to hold it against them though as this puffin print dress is super-duper cute. I even really love the peplum and I am seriously not a peplum person. It’s like having an unnecessary and nonfunctional shelf built into your outfit. This one, however, really adds something to the dress and looks beautiful.

Before I disappear off, I feel it is my duty as purveyor of fabulous dresses to inform you that She and Hem favorites Lady V London have this very evening launched their sale. I highly recommend you check it out.
