After a lovely sunny day spent browsing the Vintage Kilo Sale at Paintworks in Bristol. We headed to a small shopping party held at Aldo in Cabot Circus, to take advantage of their 15% discount on all shoes and accessories while quaffing some champers and devouring some battenberg cake. We are totally crushing on all of the ankle boots and brogues, so we will be crossing all of our fingers and toes that we win the raffle!
Aldo’s vision is to make people feel good through the products they provide. We would certainly feel good if we owned some of these amazing shoes. I was a big fan of the Nogoya red brogues, while Jo found true love with these Alcidine ankle boots. We popped them on our Christmas lists, which are now the size of a giraffe’s scarf!
Another week, another round up of the beautiful dresses considered to be worthy of the highly coveted She and Hem Double Thumbs seal of approval. Let’s have a look at what’s been whetting my whistle this week.
Those of you who follow us on Twitter might have noticed me crushing on this sweet treat of a dress from Bonne Chance Collections, who often appeal to my novelty print loving streak. This macaroon festooned wonder was destined to go straight into my basket but alas, dear readers, it is out of stock in my size. However, before you light those pitchforks on my behalf, those nice people at Bonne Chance Collections emailed me a sneaky preview of a soon to be in stock dress. BEHOLD….
Hooray! I’ll be F5ing the website for the foreseeable future.
Pockets! Pockets! Pockets! Oh how I do covet a pretty dress with pockets. I really love this Zara dress. It has, err, pockets! and sleeves! and a full skirt! and I can wear it to work! Really, I would stupid NOT to buy it.
The only fun part of the rainy season is shopping for clothes that might actually stand a chance of keeping you dry. Raincoats are not the most aesthetically pleasing, flattering or fun items to wear when the liquid sunshine starts. So, I’ve taken on the mission to prove how you don’t have to sacrifice style when dressing for a downpour. Fo’Drizzle!
PINK COAT PINK COAT PINK COAT. All people keep banging on about at the moment is pink coats. And now, well, so am I….because hubba bubba aren’t they lovely? I have now officially spent the better part of my Tuesday wondering how I’ve ever lived without one before! So thank you, internet, for your pink pandering has resulted in some serious style crushing on a number of sickeningly sweet candy coloured creations. I have, therefore, put together my favourite sugar coat-ed offerings for your reading pleasure.
This ASOS coat has been highly anticipated by the general coat buying public since it first appeared in their magazine a while back. It finally arrived online this week which sparked an internet frenzy, no really, which has resulted in a lot of the sizes going straight out of stock! In fairness it does look lovely and I am sure those nice folks at ASOS will be replenishing sizes so don’t be too down-hearted if it looks as though you’ve missed out.
Another pink coat getting a lot of attention is this pretty Marks & Spencers affair. So much attention in fact, that it also sold out the second it hit stores at the start of the month. Fear not though, pink lovers, as they restocked it today.
If like us you read a lot of blogs, you will already be familiar with the new Osiris range for Specsavers! They have been cropping up here, there and everywhere recently and you may remember that we were lucky enough to attend the launch event way back in July!
First off, you will be relieved to hear that both Victoria and I wear glasses! and, no, I don’t mean in the ridiculous don’t I look witty in my lenseless glasses’way. I mean, in the my eyes have deteriorated so much that now I can’t see without a significant amount of glass in front of them way. You know, actual prescription glasses. Three cheers for our corrected corneas!
Back at the launch, I fell hard for the white glasses in the range and was absolutely positive those were the ones I would choose come the official release in August. However, once presented with them again last month, I didn’t feel the same about them and ended up trying on the entire range again. Twice. Before settling on some blue ones*. Snazztastic.
Now, I don’t particularly enjoy wearing glasses. The only plus I can really see is that they do a fairly decent job of covering up my dark circles. In that sense, to me, glasses are just a very decadent concealer. I tend to buy the cheapest least hideous pair I can find and Continue reading Special Feature: Osiris & Jo→
It’s that time again! I’m back with another round-up of the dresses worthy of the highly coveted She and Hem Double Thumbs Up seal of approval. Let’s see what’s been tickling my fancy this week….
Sometimes putting these lists together can be ridiculously bad news for my bank balance but, dear reader, every so often I discover a budget friendly wonder! Just LOOK at this beautiful dress from Peacocks. I adore anything 1950s and this dress ticks all the right boxes, including being slightly reminiscent of a pair of old curtains. Sold.
*at the time of writing Peacocks are also offering 20% off dresses AND 99p delivery. Umm, amazing?*
Here we have another lovely vintage inspired affair from ASOS‘s own brand. I was drawn to this one because of that gorgeous midi length, a style which I like but have yet to fully embrace. I really enjoy the contrasting prints and the unusual choice of colours they have used. It just looks effortlessly cool and definitely one which I could also wear to work.
Ooooh Betty! I do so enjoy that lovely Peter Pan collar! The fashion for smock dresses shows no signs of abating, which I know isn’t great news for everyone, but if you have yet to embrace it then this very pretty floral print number from Motel could be the one to change your mind. Smock it to ’em!
You may remember a few weeks ago I received a pair of Magnum Armadillo shoes to review*. Since then I’ve been wearing the shoes every shift, including some really stupidly long and busy ones that seem to last forever, even though I’m fully charged with tea and chocolate!
One thing I’ve learnt since wearing the shoes is that you can turn them into mules. Who would have thought? This delighted me probably more than it should have at 5am one gloomy morning last week. It’s a definite perk and will certainly be beneficial in the summer. I can confirm they are still very comfortable when functioning as a mule.
New Look have been knocking it out of the park recently in the style stakes, whatever the devil those may be! Regardless, they really do seem to have upped their game with an abundance of lovely jumpers, skirts, coats and shoes available. Of course, those of you who read regularly will know that a fair old number of their delightful dresses have been cropping up in our Double Thumbs Dresses feature, so it was therefore no great surprise that when New Look contacted us about putting together our own Wish Lists that we went straight for the frocks, specifically the red ones! Phwoar.
Victoria and I have each selected our favourite red dresses and we surprised ourselves by not overlapping once (although you may spot a certain heart print similarity!). So, without a further ado! Here are our fancies!
If you are anything like us, you have spent the past week despairing at the weather. You leave the house in your big coat, tights, and boots and by lunchtime you are kicking yourself for not packing your sunglasses as you sweat uncomfortably at the bus stop. Or maybe that’s just us. Picking the correct coat for the day ahead is currently nothing short of traumatic (overstatement?) but one thing is for sure, coats are back! Hooray! There are a lot of lovely ones appearing on the high-street at the moment so we have gathered together our favs!
We tweeted about this little beauty a couple of weeks ago! Look at those bows! NEED.
It probably won’t see you through those cold winter months but this dog print jacket will certainly look pretty darn cool in the meantime.
The future is bright after all and, if you believe the magazines, orange is set to be a big colour this season! This coat is sharp, chic and zesty.
Now THIS is a winter coat. We could quite happily hibernate in this snugly affair.
Hello hello! I’m back with another round-up of the dresses worthy of the highly coveted She and Hem Double Thumbs Up seal of approval. It’s all gone a little bit autumnal outside so I have gone a bit sleeve crazy with all but one dress up for the job of keeping your arms cosy. I would also like to include the warning that this edition is not for penny pinchers! Enjoy!
Holy incr-edible dresses, Batman! Look what we have here! A trio of tasty delights! You may remember way back in Double Thumbs Dresses #4 I stumbled upon Poppy Clothing who base all of their collections on the stories of Poppy and her dog Fred. It’s an adorable concept and one which was duly deserving of the Double Thumbs crown. However, when checking out their new Autumn Winter collection I hadn’t anticipated that Poppy and Fred’s adventures would take them to a chocolate shop! A CHOCOLATE SHOP! This just got serious! I simply couldn’t pick between the lollies, chocolate and more chocolate on offer (what normal person can?) and so decided to do the unprecedented and present you with three dresses.
I adore everything. The lovely shapes, the beautiful colours, the gorgeously playful prints and the really brilliant way that Poppy themselves style their dresses with jazzy tights and cute cardigans. I’m going to have to begin saving my penny sweets as sadly the prices, although surely justified, are currently slightly beyond my reach. I seriously recommend checking out the website as they also sell some lovely, and affordable, accessories.
You’ll cause pandamonium in this wonderful dress from the beautiful H! by Henry Holland for Debenhams! He’s never one to shy away from a novelty print, not unlike myself, and has certainly excelled himself with this one.
