Last month we received possibly the most exciting email of all time when we were invited by Orla Kiely to take part in a street style initiative with them for London Fashion Week. After much squealing, high-fiving and just the tiniest flicker of unbearable smugness (sorry friends and family) we began to plan, panic and pack. You see, we hadn’t even attended London Fashion Week before so to be going with our favourite designer was just beyond a ridiculous privilege.
We will be posting a series of special London Fashion Week posts, featuring the shows we attended (including the beautiful Orla Kiely show) and what we wore, over the next week but first we wanted to talk about our street style experience. And what an experience it was!
Along with a handful of lovely fellow bloggers, we arrived first thing on Friday morning to pick our outfits. Walking into a room full of rails and being told to try on whatever we wanted was quite the invitation. Everything Orla Kiely designs is just beautiful and, without trying to sound cheesy, so completely us. Her stunning prints, 60s style and perfect colours have always won our hearts but her newest collection, featuring pretty pastels and cute animal prints, has officially pushed us overboard. It was actually quite overwhelming being presented with so much choice! Thankfully, we had already had a sneaky peek at the lookbooks so we had quite a clear idea of what we were after – otherwise we might have seriously been there all day! The team at Orla Kiely were also on hand to reassure us of our choices and to help us accessorise. They were all so friendly and fun which really helped us to relax in such a surreal situation!
We were then driven to Somerset House where we were instantly photographed by so many people. We couldn’t move for photographers and spent a large part of our day being stopped and papped! It was such a fun experience and we have spent an embarrassing amount of time looking for our photos online! We both commented on how special we felt in our outfits which definitely helped with our confidence levels. We aren’t really used to anyone wanting to take our photo other than each other and we seriously regretted not practicing our photo faces beforehand! We soon learnt that nobody smiles for photos at London Fashion Week. It’s all about the model scowl! But really, when you’re dressed head to toe in glorious Orla Kiely, it’s very hard not to look happy.
