Despite rather liking them, I have been a little bit afraid of trying out jumpsuits. People whose opinion I greatly value seem to hate them with a passion I haven’t seen since Nasty Nick wrote all those notes on Big Brother. This, however, is one of the many reasons why I love Victoria for she is usually the one to go against the crowd and encourage me to buy the things I might otherwise chicken out of!

She and Hem | Fancy FloralShe and Hem | Fancy Floral She and Hem | Fancy Floral

I finally took the jumpsuit plunge when I spotted this floral number on the Topshop website! A couple of She and Hem whatsapps later and we had concluded that it was destined to be mine. When it arrived I knew I had made the right choice. I LOVE it and am now a complete jumpsuit convert!

I accessorised it simply with Topshop sunglasses, a black ASOS belt and some fab black wedge sandals from Warehouse at House of Fraser*. I usually really struggle to find comfy summer footwear but these are just perfect! I can see this is going to be my go to summer look.

And, just in case you hadn’t noticed, last weekend I unexpectedly found myself in the most beautiful poppy field on the outskirts of Bristol. Naturally, I then took about 500 photos to document the experience and had a great time larking around like a lunatic.

She and Hem | Fancy FloralAre you a fan of jumpsuits? Hook me up with any good ones! I am now ready to start a collection!

Cath Kidston AW14 Collection

Cath Kidston AW14 Press Show via She and Hem Cath Kidston AW14 Press Show via She and Hem En route home from the Company awards last week, we popped along to the launch of the Cath Kidston AW14 and Christmas ranges and gee-whiz was it spectacular! Regular readers and followers of our Instagram will know we are both obsessed with Cath’s quirky prints, so having a sneaky peek at the new items had us squawking with excitement! So much so that the lovely CK ladies had to keep us quiet with tea and brownies. Begrudgingly, we obliged them.

With the introduction of cute watches and on-the-go tote bags, alongside CK classics such as lively yet wearable dresses, pretty china, and numerous gifts and cosy homeware items, we really fell head over heels for the new collection. Despite the great selection on offer, we found it super easy to decide on a favourite piece, which we awarded to the delightfully colourful Townhouse Raglan cap sleeve dress, as seen in the pictures below, which will retail at £70.

Company Style Blogger Awards 2014

Thanks to you lovely lot, last week we had the pleasure of attending the Company Magazine Style Blogger Awards as nominees in their Best Blogging Duo category! In true She and Hem style, we were extremely overexcited and spent a large portion of the past month discussing just HOW MUCH FUN it was going to be to attend an actual awards do! Thankfully, the evening lived up to expectations which was thanks in no small part to all of the lovely people we met along the way. Go team blogger!

Jo wears a Lace Top Playsuit and Vanity Bag both from M&S with ASOS Show and Tell Heels  |  Victoria wears a Spot Collar Playsuit from Topshop with an Orange Clutch* and Silver Block Heels both from New Look.

Getting ready was obviously no mean feat and we aren’t ashamed to say we had several outfit meltdowns. This may or may not have culminated with one of us standing in a Travelodge 20 minutes before the awards began shouting at an iron. Regardless, we made it there in one piece and would like to send a special thank you to Bath based salon No.3 Hairdressing (separate post to come!) for making our hair and nails look so spiffing and to The Body Shop in the Stratford Westfield for making our faces photograph friendly!

The awards themselves were held in the Oval Space in Bethnal Green, a lovely blank canvas which benefited beautifully from the gorgeous sunny evening we were treated to (even if our limited photography skills weren’t so thrilled about the conditions). The outside area was packed with familiar fashionable faces who were all eagerly chowing down on free sausages (obviously!) and ice cream whilst having a good old catch up. Thankfully, we had our own familiar face in the form of the ever wonderful Joseph Kent who, as well as slaying on the dance floor, also took some rather lovely photos of us! What a guy.

And, although we didn’t win, we had a great time watching the awards getting dished out by Becca Dudley. There’s just so much love and support within the blogging community that it’s hard not to get swept up with the joy, even when it isn’t your own! Besides, we were definitely in fantastic company in not winning! Chatting with nominees Unlimited by JK, scottnothingtodowithyou, Scottish Tea and fellow dynamic duo Pretty, Posh, Oh My Gosh! totally made our evening.  You can read the full list of winners here!

The other silver lining to not winning was that we got to hit the pink vodka laden free bar with gusto and, quelle suprise, we were then straight to the dance floor. It was pretty great to see FunForLouis briefly throwing some shapes with us! He’s only got a million subscribers! Let’s hope our dance moves make an appearance in a vlog sometime soon.

And, with that, it was all over and we headed back to the Travelodge with our outrageously large goody bags in hand! Same time next year?

She and Home: Soma 10th Birthday

She and Hem | Soma 10th Birthday She and Hem | Soma 10th Birthday

A couple of weekends ago we attended the 10th birthday celebrations of Soma, a contemporary art gallery and shop situated in one of Bristol’s prettiest suburbs, Clifton Village. We’ve always been big Soma fans, often popping in for a quick Tatty Devine fix during our lunch breaks, so we were more than happy to pop on our party hats, grab a cupcake and join the celebrations!

To rejoice in reaching the grand old age of 10, Soma invited 10 artists – Andy Smith, Adam Bridgland with Lucy Gough, Graham Carter, Gemma Correll, Crispin Finn, Hello Marine, Alice Pattullo, Peskimo, Hazel Nicholls and Spencer Wilson to each create a special limited edition print. We can confirm they are all pretty jazzy, but if you don’t believe us you can view the prints here.

One Direction – Where We Are Tour

M14

What do you get if you mix the world’s biggest selling boyband, a few scandalous headlines and a shed load of pyrotechnics? You got it! The One Direction “Where We Are Tour” of course! Yowzers!

A couple of weeks ago we had a banging time at 1D’s sell out show at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, even after being chastised by a musician on the train to Manchester for our musical choices. What made it worse is that this musician was an 11 year old girl, travelling with her mum. Luckily for her, she also said we looked like “shiny haired sisters”, so we decided to let her off gently by simply not offering her any of our sweets (One Direction love hearts, obv).

1d2 1d3 1d4 1d6 1d5One Direction’s lyrics say exactly what girls want to hear, but on stage Louis and Zayn seemed a little aloof and didn’t interact with the crowd much. Zayn seemed to have a bit of a grump on, which is such a waste of that beautiful face. Those boys should take a leaf out of the (younger, hotter and hopefully less tax evasiony) ‘Gary Barlow’ of the group Liam Payne. Now that boy will go far!

Never fret though girlies, we had a blast! In fact, here’s a video documenting exactly how much we enjoyed the gig! Top moments included –  every time Niall played guitar, What ‘Makes You Beautiful’ and ‘Best Song Ever’, ALL of the fireworks and when Harry Styles invited us back to his hotel room for a cheeky Horlicks*…

Sleeping Beauty

She and Hem | Sleeping Beauty

If you read this blog often you will know that I (Jo) really struggle with looking tired. It’s something which I am always aware of and I drive my loved ones crazy by constantly questioning them on just how tired I look. Over the years I have tried everything and anything to combat those dreaded dark circles and puffiness but, really, the obvious solution is to combat my horrendous sleeping pattern! When I was younger I could never fall asleep and would lie awake for hours (until I became a teenager when instead of lying awake I simply spent all night on the Internet). Now that I am older I seem to have developed the opposite problem in that I wake up at stupid o’clock and can’t get back to sleep! Frustrating, much? So when an email landed in our inbox from Time4Sleep offering me some extra help with getting enough sleep and, crucially, covering it up when I haven’t, I had to say “Yes”. A few days later a little box of goodies arrived which I have been using as part of my routine, alongside my usual ‘I’M AWAKE’ staples.

She and Hem | Sleeping BeautyShe and Hem | Sleeping Beauty

Let’s begin with the lotions and potions! A while ago I put a plea out on Twitter for eye cream recommendations and the lovely SJ from Ship Shape and Bristol Fashion pointed me in the direction of Origins. I’ve tried approximately one million things that claim to reduce dark circles but none have impressed me as much as this Dr. Andrew Weil cream. I really feel it has made a difference! As a result of this success, I decided to also buy their No Puffery Roll as it had such great reviews. I now always have it about my person for some emergency eye cooling and I’ve been enjoying using it alongside the cooling Dr Organics Aloe Vera gel*!

Eye cooling, I’ve discovered, is key. If I am off somewhere important and haven’t managed to get anywhere near enough sleep I will use the pink mask shown in the top photo. It lives in my fridge and does a wonderous job of reducing puffy eyes and waking me up for the day. I remember wearing it to breakfast on the morning of my best friend’s wedding like some sort of bridesmaid superhero. It worked though. No tired eyes in those important photos!

She and Hem | Sleeping Beauty‘Conceal, don’t feel!’. Oh boy, I am forever indebted to whoever invented concealer. I am never without it. I would wear it around my neck if I could! The two above are my current favourites, although having borrowed my fair share of Victoria’s Collection 2000, I fear I may be adding a third. The Bourjois one is a bit of a blogger fave and for good reason. It does a great job of combating those dark circles and I apply it pretty liberally on top of my Smashbox hydrating under eye primer to ensure that it stays put all day long.

She and Hem | Sleeping BeautyShe and Hem | Sleeping Beauty

But what of my sleeping pattern, I hear you cry? Well, I’ve been trying all the top tips. No TV or phone for an hour before bed, calming chamomile tea, aromatherapy candles, three shots of whiskey. It all seems to be helping. I have also been super impressed with the Aroma Home Luxurious Eye Mask. It’s full of lavender seeds, which help with soothing and relaxation but, more importantly, it does a fantastic job of blocking out the light so when I wake up at 5am, I can pretend that it’s midnight.

Little Miss Sunshine Dresses in Yellow and Green from Traffic People*

One of our favourite things about being a blogging duo (other than always having someone around to tell you that you have cookie in your hair) is planning and partaking in joint shoots. We’ve really mastered the art of prancing around in front of a camera in public spaces while trying to act super casual when a bunch of tourists walk past. Believe me, when you are dressed in matching floral dresses at 9am on a sunny day in Bath, this can be quite tricky…but it’s always hilarious!

I embraced my inner lady (she’s in there somewhere….) and wore pink AND hearts. I kept my look pretty simple, not only because we popped to do to this shoot en-route to Manchester, but also because I often think that a dress with this much awesome floralness going on deserves all of the attention! Jo kindly lent me her white Amazon sunglasses to compliment my very respectable New Look pink block heels. Wow, becoming a fashion blogger has really broadened my girly horizons!

She and Hem | Traffic People | Floral DressesShe and Hem | Traffic People | Floral DressesShe and Hem | Traffic People | Floral Dresses

Jo’s wondrous look, which I’ve decided to call ‘laid-back glam’, features those lush Topshop sunglasses and She and Hem staples, brown Topshop brogues. The vintage elements are brought to you in the form of a beauteous Olivia Burton watch and vintage brown belt, with simple black George tights. Our fab dresses are both from my new favourite people, Traffic People*!

New Look Summer

She and Hem | New Look Summer

A little while ago we were very kindly asked if we would like to choose a summer outfit each from New Look’s summer range and, having both decided recently that we would like to step out of our usual comfort zone of twirly dresses, this seemed like the perfect opportunity for us to embrace some shorts! So last week, in between stuffing ourselves silly with breakfast at the Anthropologie Bath launch and heading up to Manchester, we found ourselves strolling around in our very best summer attire. As the sun had even made an appearance for the occasion, I decided to take V to one of my favourite teenage haunts, the picture perfect Henrietta Park for some photos!

She and Hem | New Look SummerShe and Hem | New Look SummerShe and Hem | New Look SummerWhen choosing our outfits, Victoria headed straight for New Look’s handy co-ords section (I wish more online shops had cottoned on to this) and selected her gorgeous red floral top and shorts set. It looked absolutely stunning on and she accessorised it perfectly with her Primark shell bag, sparkly George sunglasses* and jazzy cobalt blue Office sandals from House of Fraser*. She looked so bright and cheery in the vibrant colours and we both agree that the shorts especially are going to making many an appearance…if the sun holds up his end of the deal too.

She and Hem | New Look SummerShe and Hem | New Look Summer

She and Hem | New Look SummerI am always instantly drawn to anything white and crochet so these shorts went straight into my basket. If I was at a festival or on holiday I would be happy to rock them without tights but I don’t think Bath is quite ready for my jelly – they really are short! I do like them with tights though and my George ones are even ‘heat controlled’ so I didn’t get too hot! It took me a while to figure out what to team with them and ended up plumping for this gingham shirt top, which I now LOVE. It has such a cute tie detail at the bottom and I know I am going to be wearing it all summer long. I accessoried with Topshop brogues, a white Zatchel, a Pull & Bear cardigan and my fail safe Amazon heart sunglasses.
