The Orla Kiely Autumn/Winter 2015 presentation was inspired by the film Love Story from 1970, starring the gorgeous Ali Macgraw, (who, fyi, has more than a passing resemblance to LFW fave Kendall Jenner). The film is responsible for that very famous quote ‘Love means never having to say you’re sorry’, but we are certainly not sorry to say that we love this collection! It had fine written all over it.

When we walked into the Vinyl Factory, we totally lost the plot and both agreed it was our favourite Orla Kiely presentation set so far, with the SS14 Wes Anderson inspired show coming a close second. With colourful cookies on offer, hot chocolate flowing and a Bjork soundtrack, the OK library is our kind of library. Having fun isn’t hard when you’ve got an OK library card!

Look up ‘perfect’ in the dictionary and you will see a picture of an OK model. We were dewey-eyed as they browsed the library in cute blouses with bows, Peter Pan collars, geometry chic grid prints and an abundance of grey tights. Each outfit as dreamy as the last and all completely ready to wear off of the catwalk. We really want to jump into that yellow two piece and head for a whisky with Don Draper (though we would obviously settle for Kenny!). This 60’s/70’s revival is long overdue (ha!)

As Jo is a real life Librarian she was keen for us to dress by the book. It looked like Michelle Keegan got the memo too, as she rocked up in head to toe Orla, with a beautiful vintage Chanel bag of course! It was pretty hard for us to stick to library rules and keep quiet when when we caught a glimpse of the new range of shoes in collaboration with Clarks. The Rose Leather Orla Amelia block heels are at the top of our wish lists!

London Fashion Week AW15: J. JS Lee

London Fashion Week AW15: J. JS Lee

Last weekend we went on a jolly jaunt to London Fashion Week for a few frenzied days of fashion madness! We will be posting about all the shows, presentations and, of course, outfits over the coming days and weeks but, for now, let us start at the beginning!

On Friday morning we set our alarms bright and early as we were fortunate enough to be invited to attend the first show of the season at BFC Courtyard Space in Somerset House, J. JS Lee. Our eagerness paid off as we managed to be seated in the second row, just behind the very beautiful Frankie Bridge! Frankie was suitably attired for the show in a stunning navy J. JS Lee jacket with signature pop of colour.

The chic androgynous pieces looked as sharp as the average She and Hem pun i.e. pretty damn sharp. In addition to spotting our second favourite Saturday, we particularly enjoyed J. JS Lee’s nod to her childhood, with fun tomboyish flats, lots of fluffy fun and long loose shapes. The collection featured a gorgeous palette of whites, pinks and blacks, and more shades of grey than you can shake a pair of handcuffs at.

The minimalist looks were complimented with subtle black wigs and brilliant bright red lips, created by MAC make up artist Lucy Birt. Lucy, you are very welcome to do our make up anytime. Please?

Want to see our funny for money faces?

Want to see our funny for money faces? | Specsavers | Red Nose Day 2015Want to see our funny for money faces? | Specsavers | Red Nose Day 2015

We have come up with a snazzy new look in honour of Red Nose Day, who want as many people as possible to make their faces funny for money in order to raise important funds that will help poor and vulnerable people both here in the UK and in Africa. You know the drill! It’s time to crack out the face paint, the silly wigs and, of course, the red noses and raise some important funny money! Now, some might argue that our faces are quite the hoot as it is but we’ve added to the comedy (unbelievable, I know) with some eyebrow raising Red Nose Day spectacles from Specsavers, which are available in store for £3. If you’ve always wanted to look like a cross between Cara Delevingne and Bert from The Muppets then these are the specs for you.

What do you mean those aren’t red noses? Should’ve gone to Specsavers! Boom boom. These jokes don’t write themselves, y’know.

If you happen to be in Bristol today (Thursday 19th) then pop into Specsavers on Merchant Street between 1pm and 4pm to help them mark their 30th birthday and to get involved with some Red Nose Day fun! There will be goody bags, hidden 50% off glasses vouchers (hopefully your eyesight is good enough to find them!) and, the deal breaker, BALLOONS FOR ALL! There will also be the opportunity to make a donation to Rose Nose Day in return for a glasses MOT or you can make your face funny for money with their professional photobooth and props. You might even win a free pair of designer specs in the process!

Red Nose Day will be held on Friday 13th of March, which is surely the perfect date to scare the living daylights out of your neighbour with your new facial arrangement! We fully expect to see your faces looking suitable silly.

Four go mad in Manchester

A wee while ago we ventured North for a girls weekend with fellow appreciators of quality cake, Kelly and Deesha. Whilst we were there we decided to eat and drink all of the prettiest things we could find! Which turned out to be pretty damn easy. Manchester, we salute you.

Our first port of call was milkshakes at the incredibly popular Home Sweet Home. Kelly and Jo went for the blueberry topped with Lucky Charms (!), whilst Deesha and Victoria plumped (plumped being the operative word…) for peanut butter and jelly! Breakfast of champions. It was the perfect place to spend a Saturday morning. After spending far too long browsing the many floors of Afflecks, the home of She and Hem faves Chocolate Ape, Pop Boutique and Thunder Egg, the sight of Ginger’s Comfort Emporium was quite the comfort indeed! We perked up and planned our evening over a few brews. If you fancy reading about the evening in question, click here! *Warning* This link involves Harry Styles.

On Sunday morning, before catching the train back to Bristol, we took a (very) leisurely stroll to Sugar Junction. A vintage tearoom serving freshly baked cakes, homely meals and some of the best milkshakes in Manchester. There is no such thing as a light lunch in the life of She and Hem, so after much discussion we settled on milkshakes (duh), pancakes and a large slice of cake to set us on our merry way. Bristol, you seriously need to up your milkshake game. Or maybe that’s just the sugar talking.
