So all of your presents are wrapped and your poor pet turkey’s legs are quivering, but have you got your New Year’s Eve outfit sorted yet? No? Well, don’t fret, as we’ve picked the perfect party pieces from Sugarhill Boutique that will help you shimmy your way into 2016. Go glam this NYE!
It is often said that I (Victoria) have a heart of gold. So this Betsy Jacquard Shift dress*, which is covered in a bunch of golden hearts, really called out to me. Now that I’m officially Mrs Valentine, I feel it is acceptable, nay demanded, that I wear any novelty Valentine inspired prints at all times. I’m probably the only person more excited about February 14th than Christmas Day. I have a day named after me guys (sort of…)!
Back to the dress, it’s not just the hearts I’m into, oh no. The shape is super flattering, and the short sleeves are smart and chic. Almost perfect, but alas neither this dress, nor the Philippa Tweed Jacquard dress* that Jo is wearing, feature pockets, a must have here at She & Hem towers. However, what Jo’s dress does have is those awesome jazzy straps and the most gorgeous texture. While shooting these photos, we both agreed that Sugarhill Boutique are just so consistent, in terms of style and quality. You can wear their pieces over and over again (and I do!!) and they stay in tip top condition.
If you are not planning on a big night out on the 31st, but still want to wear something special, you could layer a party dress with some nifty knitwear. Jo picked the Hatsy Chunky Lurex cardigan* to wear over her glitzy frock and I’ve got a feeling I’m going to be seeing her in it a lot over the upcoming months. It’s sparkle is pretty, yet subtle enough to make this the ideal cosy coverup to wear to work to beat those January blues. She added a touch of extra sparkle by adding gold glitter to her roots! Snazzy! This was achieved by mixing glitter with Rush’s Lift & Defy Root Lift. What do you think? I wore the Georgia Heart Sequin sweater* over my betsy dress, as I love a bit of heart synergy and it’s got the cutest collar of 2015!
Hello dress fans! It’s time for a bit of Double Thumbs festive fun (and some cats). So, without further ado, I present to you the seasonal numbers that we consider worthy of the highly coveted Double Thumbs seal of approval. No turkeys here, just crackers!
Well a girl can dream, can’t she? How absolutely stunning is this candy cane print dress from Oh My Honey? It’s the stuff that Christmas dress dreams are made of. There’s beautiful gold organza all over the shop with a perfect sparkly candy cane print to set it off. How perfect would this be for a Christmas wedding? *sigh*. I want to twirl around in it SO MUCH.
Back to reality and perhaps I will have to settle for dressing like an actual candy cane instead, with this delightful red striped (in deep wine and blush, red shades fans) fit and flare frock from Dickins and Jones. I do enjoy the contrasting stripes and I find Dickins and Jones always do flattering cuts.
You’ve got to be kitten me Topshop, this isn’t remotely festive! But hey, I’m not going to miss out a dress that’s festooned with cats purely because it’s December now am I? It just wouldn’t be right! I really love this playful shirt dress (and not just because of the cats) and am already looking forward to counting my post-Christmas chocolate coins in the hopes I’ll be able to buy it.
Emily and Fin always know how to do a perfect print and this delightful falling snowflake affair is really ticking all of my winter dress boxes. I’m really digging the new forties shape, which has gorgeous sleeves and, most importantly, is relaxed at the waist – perfect for eating your way through that second helping of Christmas pudding! The teal colour is simply gorgeous and those falling snowflakes are just dreamy.
It’s not often I decide to show the back of a dress but holy moly WHAT. A. BOW. I can’t really cope with it. It’s simply the best bow I have ever seen and I’ve seen a lot of bows let me tell you. It’s also in the most Christmassy shade of red possible meaning you are basically dressed as a Christmas present. What a treat! It’s currently on sale at Coast but only in limited in sizes, however it’s also available in more sizes (but for £135) at House of Fraser.
This ASOS dress is seriously bringing the party! Look at those sleeves! You could comfortably fit a selection box or two up them and be the most popular girl in town. Not to mention that it’s made out of a gold glitter-embellished fabric, making it pretty dazzling! As Craig Revel-Horwood might say, “Gawwwwwwjus”.
I’ve seen this showstopper of a dress a few times on Twitter/Instagram and was so surprised to discover that it’s from the high-street! Take a bow, Warehouse for creating this absolute stunner. There’s just so much detail with beautiful sheer woven fabric that has a multi-colour floral embellishment and sequin details. It would make the perfect Christmas party dress but, thanks to being blue, you could easily crack this one out any time of year – not that I’m trying to justify the spend or anything *cough*.
I’m starting to feel like a one woman Lindy Bop fan-club but seriously, they are so good! (I included a skirt of theirs in our November Favourites video which you should totally watch – subtle plug). The drinks will literally be on you in this super flattering swing dress which has the most super fun cocktail print. Isn’t it fab? Cheers!
And last but not least is this new floral print from Cath Kidston! CK have not answered my wish for their super cute Christmas print to be turned into a dress, a missed opportunity I feel! The closest I could find is PJ bottoms, if you’re interested in that sort of thing (I know I am). However, this dress does contain both red and green so I am going to consider it to be a festive effort.
Have you found the perfect festive frock? Let me know!
No, it’s not hair-say, a new hairdressers has opened in Bristol! When the invite landed in our inbox to pop for a chop at the new Rush Hair and Beauty salon on The Horsefair in the centre of Bristol, we didn’t need to mullet over. We have a heck of a lot of hair between us, so it’s really important that we try to keep it in tip top condition, especially in this monstrous weather. Long hair and blusterous winds are a frightful mix. Hair-raising stuff for sure!
We were handed a glass of champagne and chatted with our hairdressers, the wonderful Josh and Laura, about what we wanted. I (Victoria) am currently growing my hair, so although Josh took only a a little off of the length, he made sure we waved goodbye to all of my lifeless ends. Good riddance bad ends! My hair felt extremely light and swishy after and really did look so much healthier. We discussed tips on promoting hair growth, and Josh recommended that I use a hair mask about once a week to add moisture and shine. Since my visit to Rush, I have been using a Kérastase mask and I’ve really noticed the difference. My barnet has been exceptionally shiny, but I promise I haven’t let it go to my head! Laura had her work cut out finding the end of Jo’s hair, but once she did, she set to work and the results were absolutely gorgeous. I always love to see Jo’s hair curled, and Laura did such an incredible styling job with just a pair of GHD’s. What a talent.
After a few cheeky selfies we parted ways, and I used every shop window en route home as a mirror to admire my luscious locks! We both definitely recommend a trip to see Laura and Josh. They really know their stuff, listened to our needs and intuitively produced exactly what we both wanted without any fuss. You could say they’re real big wigs of the stylist world. In fact, that very evening we raved about them to our mutual BFF Ellie, who booked an appointment and had her hair cut at Rush yesterday. Let me tell you, she looks INCREDIBLE! So, thank you Rush for inviting us and making us feel so comfortable at your super salon. We’ll be back soon!
