Double Thumbs Dresses #77

Hello hello! Welcome back to Double Thumbs Dresses, our roundup of the frocks we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted double thumbs seal of approval! Let’s crack on….

Aida Zak Sandra Boat Print Dress £38.50 from Collectif
Aida Zak Sandra Boat Print Dress £58.50 from Collectif

First up I am loving the boat-iful dress from Collectif! It’s a pretty fabulous print and I love the style of the dress with a delightful full skirt, sweetheart neckline and, praise be, pockets! Race you to the seaside!

Multicoloured Tile Print Sundress £22.00 from TU at Sainsburys
Multicoloured Tile Print Sundress £22.00 from Tu at Sainsburys

Is it Tu late now to say sorry? To my bank balance, that is. I have complained in the past about how Sainsburys didn’t allow you to order clothes on their website but now that they have rectified the situation I am facing some serious financial issues. ALL THE PRETTY.

V Neck PLeated Tiered Dress £60.00 from Oasis
V Neck PLeated Tiered Dress £60.00 from Oasis

Three tiers for this Oasis dress! Hip hip hooray…etc. I mean, you might need to buy your friends some sunglasses for when you wear it but by golly what a frock! It’s so so bright and so so awesome.

Zandra Rhodes Lipstick Asymmetrical Dress in Pink £85 from People Tree
Zandra Rhodes Lipstick Asymmetrical Dress in Pink £85 from People Tree

I appreciate that you might have to take my word for it but this People Tree dress has the most fabulous lipstick print (go hover over the images on their website!). It’s super cute and I really like that, for a novelty print dress, it’s quite a sensible style.

Raddery Sailing Print Dress £59.50 from Jack Wills
Raddery Sailing Print Dress £59.50 from Jack Wills

Those of you with a good memory for dresses (hi) might well remember that Jack Wills brought out an incredibly similar print to this last year. I know this, because I bought said dress and wore it to death (here’s the proof)! JW must have decided that if the nautical print dress aint broke, don’t fix it! I’m so blatantly going to end up buying this one too.

Lusara A-Z Ditzy Floral Dress £179 by Ted Baker at John Lewis
Lusara A-Z Ditzy Floral Dress £179 by Ted Baker at John Lewis

So here’s a story from A to Z! How fab is this Ted Baker print? It’s sort of bonkers, with a mix of giant letters and a floral print, but it just works. Although I do wish the J (the best of the letters) was more prominent.

Graphic Print Mini Wiggle Dress £45.00 from ASOS
Graphic Print Mini Wiggle Dress £45.00 from ASOS

Last but not least is this super snazzy graphic print dress from a small independent company you might have heard of called ASOS. I think they’ll go far.

Double Thumbs Dresses #76

Hello hello! Welcome back to Double Thumbs Dresses, our roundup of the frocks we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted double thumbs seal of approval! Let’s crack on….

Sea View Sleeveless Crosshatch Dress £65 from Cath Kidston
Sea View Sleeveless Crosshatch Dress £65 from Cath Kidston

I had one of those moments on the Cath Kidston website where I was so overwhelmed with new prints that I had to calm myself. IT’S ALL SO PERFECT AHH! This sea view dress is adorable. Just look at all those beautiful boats! Of the new seaside prints I’ve spotted this is currently the only one in dress form but, for your CK records, I’ve also spied a beach huts apron (!) and this stunning harbour view skirt(!) – both of which are clearly screaming out to be dresses. The gnome print sold out so quickly that I might just have to bite the bullet and get this one straight away.

Evelyn Embroidered Dress £250 from Boden
Evelyn Embroidered Dress £250 from Boden

This is slightly more expensive than your usual Double Thumbs Dress but my goodness what a corker. This floral organza beauty is part of Boden’s latest Icons collection, a limited range of stunning pieces which are created with rich, luxurious fabrics. Basically it’s all just knockout and if you are looking for an investment piece then look no further. So pretty.

Eliza Dress £45 from Archive by Alexa at M&S
Eliza Dress £45 from Archive by Alexa at M&S

As a proud M&S shopper and huge Alexa Chung fan I have been super excited about this collaboration for what feels like forever! Today is finally the day that  Archive by Alexa launches and as this super fashionable, super affordable, super everything collection will probably all sell out in under 30 seconds, I thought I should include my pick of the bunch. The gorgeous Eliza dress, originally an M&S number from the 1950s, has been given a modern makeover to become this lovely frock you see before you. Please don’t have sold out before I get home from work!

Love Mer-Cat Dress (Mist Blue) £75.80 from Miss Patina
Love Mer-Cat Dress £75.80 from Miss Patina

Mermaids and cats! What a beautiful combination of creatures. Thankfully for us, the mer-cat takes center stage in Miss Patina’s new sea themed spring collection. It’s all just beautiful, with Miss Patina’s usual ethereal vibe. There really are some gorgeous pieces but this dreamy dress is the star of the show for me.  Well, apart from the tabby! Need.

Pinafore Dungaree Dress With Cat Face £70 from Lazy Oaf at ASOS
Pinafore Dungaree Dress With Cat Face £70 from Lazy Oaf at ASOS
Button Front Shirt Dress In Cat Gang Print £65 from Lazy Oaf at ASOS
Button Front Shirt Dress In Cat Gang Print £65 from Lazy Oaf at ASOS

If you prefer your cats with a more traditional tail, then look no further than these two ameowsing dresses from Lazy Oaf. Victoria and I are a little Lazy Oaf obsessed at the moment as they seem to have hit upon a gold mine of novelty prints. It’s just an explosion of cats and milkshakes and rainbows. Who could resist?

Daisy Jacquard Skater Dress £68 from Oasis
Daisy Jacquard Skater Dress £68 from Oasis

Last but not least we have this super pretty affair from Oasis. I love this sugary sweet shade of pink and the pretty daisy print is just lovely. It looks like a perfect Summer party dress so, errm, let’s hope we get a Summer!

Just My Look

She and Hem | Just My Look Make Up | #bbloggersmakeup3She and Hem | Just My Look Make Up | #bbloggers

Last week a little make up bundle popped through our respective letterboxes from Just My Look, how lovely! As super keen bloggers, we put it straight to the test and wore some of the pieces to shoot our Jo and Victoria Hit the Road post.

Now, we make no secret of the fact that we aren’t beauty aficionados (it’s all just so overwhelming) so Just My Look appear to be right up our street with their super affordable prices. We particularly rated the In The Buff eye-shadow palette from W7, with 12 shades of brown, nude and gold, at £4.99 it is an incredibly cheap alternative to palettes from other brands. The Technic Colour Max lipsticks in pretty pink and coral shades were also a hit thanks to their strong pigmentation and lasting power. Considering they are only £1.99 a pop they really are great value for money.  Finally, the OPI New Orleans Mini Pack of nail varnishes (£12.95) were another highlight! They are long lasting and as you can see in the above picture, really chip resistant. Who knew green nails could look so great?

We didn’t get on quite so well with the Contour Stix Contouring Crayons from Technic (£3.95), possibly due to our fear of creating a right old mess, but just didn’t seem to have much of an impact. We definitely need some cheekbone contouring tips from Kim K. Nevertheless, we did like the stick application, which always makes life so much easier.  Perhaps with some practice (and persistence) we can perfect the art? The Technic Mega Blush (£2.50) was also a bit of a miss as, despite containing four beautiful shades of pink to rosy up our pale faces, the pigment really wasn’t very strong at all and just left us looking as ghostly as ever. Boo!

Have you shopped at Just My Look before? We’d been keen to hear any recommendations if you’ve discovered any cheap gems!

Accessories to Murder #28

Hello and welcome to the 28th Accessories to Murder! Are you ready to delve into the world of amazing accessories, including a sneaky cheat entry from Lazy Oaf? Excellent. Without further ado, here are the accessories that have made it onto this week’s She and Hem’s Most Wanted.

Accessories to Murder #28 | She and Hem | Lazy Oaf Shirt
Eat Your Cake Shirt | £65.00 | Lazy Oaf

Now you may think this is cheating slightly, as a shirt isn’t technically an accessory, but Jo and I have been obsessed with this fun print ever since we saw it on the Queen of Youtube, Zoella. Although it’s one of the best novelty prints I think I’ve ever seen, I am yet to make the slightly pricey purchase, as I wish it was slightly shorter in length. It looked absolutely stunning on Zoe, but that girl has such a banging figure, she’d look great whatever the length. For now, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a range of items in this print.

Accessories to Murder #28 | She and Hem | Thunder Egg Brooch
Erstwilder “Sals Soda Pop” Brooch | £25 | Thunder Egg
Accessories to Murder #28 | She and Hem | Thunder Egg Brooch
Erstwilder “Radio Shack” Brooch | £23 | Thunder Egg

We feature gorgeous dresses from Thunder Egg all the time on the blog, so I thought it was only right to delve into their accessories section, and man I’m so glad I did because just look at these cute retro inspired brooches! There are plenty of different designs in stock, but my two favourites are the super Sals Soda Pop and the radical Radio Shack brooches. So-da great.

Accessories to Murder #28 | She and Hem | Boden Denim Jacket
Olivia Jacket | £59.50 | Boden

I feel that a demin jacket is a must have item for Spring, as it’s so quick and easy to pop on over a dress when you’re not really sure what the heck the weather is doing. One of the best designs I’ve spotted is the Olivia Jacket from Boden. Unfortunately, some sizes are currently not in stock, but they do have an excellent white version which is available in all sizes, and I may even prefer it to the blue. How controversial!

Accessories to Murder #28 | She and Hem | Boden Swimming Costume
Ruffle Bandeau Swimsuit | £59.50 | Boden

I’m off on an American adventure next week and whilst looking for some last minute holiday bits, this jazzy swimming costume caught my eye. I can’t resist a ruffle! I can totally see myself getting my Baywatch on, running slow mo down Venice beach in this beauty. Carrying a giant inflatable swan, obviously.

Accessories to Murder #28 | She and Hem | Pastel Clutch Bag
Beautiful Dreamer Pouch | £15.99 | Aspire Style

Last but not least, I wanted to feature a new designer who I discovered last week after the lovely Aspire Style sent us a couple of her pastel pouches (featured here) as a little ‘Thank You’ for taking part in their recent blogger challenge. Unfortunately we didn’t win, but the beautiful pouches from Katie Loxton really make up for it!

Let me know your favourite pieces and until next week, keep accessorising!

Jo and Victoria Hit the Road

Jo and Victoria Hit the Road | She and Hem | Circus Dresses Carousel Jo and Victoria Hit the Road | She and Hem | Circus Dresses Carousel Jo and Victoria Hit the Road | She and Hem | Circus Dresses Carousel

Would you just look at that beautiful camper van? A green dream parked in the perfect spot for a pair of bloggers celebrating their THIRD blog birthday! We can’t believe that She and Hem is now three years old. Happy Birthday to us! Thank you to everyone who has followed our little blogger journey this far. We are so thrilled with how far we’ve come, and are super excited about the future. Who knows what we will be up to in three years time? We’d love for She and Hem to grow and grow.

The sun is finally shining here in Bristol, so we grabbed our cameras and hit the road with our gorgeous new summer dresses from Carousel, who we discovered last year. If you love fun and colourful prints, you should definitely check them out. Both of our dresses are from Irish brand Circus, who love all things vintage. Jo wears the Loretta Tree Dress*, which is inspired by the dresses of the 1940’s with a cute tie waist and flattering shape. The fun tree print will be prefect for posing next to the pink blossom trees that seem to take over Bristol during Springtime. I (Victoria) am wearing the vivid blue Gina Parrot Dress*, which has more of a 1950’s shape with a gorgeous flared A-line skirt. The shirt style makes this dress an excellent transitional piece, which will see me through the Spring and Summer seasons.

We accessorized these darling dresses with polkadot tights from UK Tights*, and matching pastel clutch bags from Aspire Style*. Jo’s dandy dachshund necklace, seen above, is from Tatty Devine. He’s so adorable! The matching silver shoes were a completely unplanned coincidence, we just seem to have quite the knack for twinning. Jo’s pumps are from Topshop and my loafers are from Boden.

Double Thumbs Dresses #75

Hello hello! Welcome back to Double Thumbs Dresses, our roundup of the frocks we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted double thumbs seal of approval! Before we crack on, just a heads up, this particular Double Thumbs Dresses contains a sponsored link but please be assured we only feature the frocks we consider tip top!  As you were…

Stretch Dress in a Vintage Look £39.00 from ESpirit
Stretch Dress in a Vintage Look £39.00 from Esprit
Spotty Jacquard Dress £75.00 from ESpirit
Spotty Jacquard Dress £75.00 from Esprit

We begin with these two fab frocks from Esprit! How gorgeous is that sixties style vintage number? I love the high neck and flared silhouette combo and a jacquard fabric is always a favourite of mine. I’ve also gone dotty for their spotty number thanks to my ongoing quest to find a new monochrome dress. I love the two different sizes of spot and the inverted a-line is such a nice shape.

Costa Rica Hat Print Dress £34.50 by Compañia Fantastica from ThunderEgg
Costa Rica Hat Print Dress £34.50 by Compañia Fantastica from ThunderEgg

Hats off to this great print from fab Spanish brand Compañia Fantastica! They’ve got some excellent prints for Spring with this boater number already finding its way into my wardrobe. I picked mine up from Thunderegg who always have so many tempting treats! I do find this dress to be a little on the short side but my groundbreaking plan is to wear a denim skirt over the top until Summer!

Abito Trapezio Con Stampa Banane €125 (£100ish) from Lazzari
Abito Trapezio Con Stampa Banane €125 (£100ish) from Lazzari

We’ve ditched Spain for Italy with this DANCING BANANA PRINT (this is not a drill) from Lazzari who Victoria linked me up with during the week. I’d love to know what her Google search was to find this particular frock! My Italian isn’t great (non existent you might say) but I do know that this website has a lot of beautiful pieces. Anyone know of any UK stockists?

It’s an Inspired Taste Dress $119.99 (£85ish) from Modcloth
It’s an Inspired Taste Dress $119.99 (£85ish) from Modcloth

Modcloth really know how to do a novelty print don’t they? I am forever infuriated and relieved in equal measure that they aren’t based in the UK. I would have no money AT ALL. It might be time to embrace the shipping charge though as this tasty dress has both avocados AND aubergines on it. NEED.

Navy Nautical Sundress £20 from Tu at Sainsburys
Navy Nautical Sundress £20 from Tu at Sainsburys

I always love a good stroll around Tu at Sainsburys as I find they are usually good for a fun print or two! We have been wearing a lot of umm ‘swimmer prints’ (exhibit A exhibit B) recently (not something I thought I’d ever say) so this little number is right up my street! It’s lovely and also a total bargain!

Flamingo Fun Flare Print Dress $59.42 (£42ish) from Chicwish
Flamingo Fun Flare Print Dress $59.42 (£42ish) from Chicwish

Last but not least we have this gloriously pink affair from Chicwish. That flamingo print is quite frankly awesome and those shades of pink look so lovely together.  The 50s style of the dress is always going to be a winner for me and there’s a big bow round the back just to finish things off in style.

Lido Mini Crooked Handle Telescopic Umbrella £30 from Radley

Considering my Mother has been raving about Radley for as long as I can remember, it’s a surprise that it’s taken me this long to jump on the bandwagon. But consider me a fully fledged fan thanks to their adorable Lido range which is so delightful (apart from the pricetag, naturally). I’m also slightly obsessed with their yellow and white backpack of dreams!

The Queen's 90th Birthday Tea Towel £10 from Cath Kidston
The Queen’s 90th Birthday Tea Towel £10 from Cath Kidston

Ol’ Queenie is turning 90 this month and I can’t think of a more fitting way to celebrate than by drying my teacups with this tea towel from Cath Kidston. I think Liz would totally approve. I really can’t get over the corgies wearing party hats and blowing their party horns. GENIUS. There’s also a mug and tote bag available if you really want to party hard!

Waverley Wayfarer Sunglasses £14 from Topshop
Waverley Wayfarer Sunglasses £14 from Topshop

How lovely are these pink polka dot sunglasses from Topshop? They are so cute! I mean, I need another pair like I need a hole in the head but still, so cute!

Tea Time Studs £40 from Kate Spade
Tea Time Studs £40 from Kate Spade

My bank balance is having a darn good chortle at the very idea that I might ever be able to buy this insane Kate Spade teapot bag but corr blimey it’s a bit special. Thankfully, the rather lovely tea time studs are more budget friendly and, umm, will take up less space in my flat? That’s the silver lining I’m going with anyway.

Spotted any fab accessories? Let us know!
