Nespresso has recently opened a pop-up boutique in Cribbs Causeway, Bristol. To mark the occasion, those fine, caffeine loving folks hosted a coffee inspired dinner at the wonderful Lido Restaurant in Clifton. What does this have to do with us? Why, we were lucky enough to be invited along! Head chef Freddy Bird created an incredible bespoke menu, with all three courses infused with Nespresso coffee. The food was seriously good and looked almost too beautiful to eat. We were really spoiled rotten by the team at The Lido, and the tables full of empty plates was testament to the quality of the grub. Before we sampled the food, there was a tasting masterclass, as well as a talk on Bristol’s buzzing food scene with food and drink expert Andy Clarke, which made us feel especially proud and lucky to live in a city with so much choice and diversity when it comes to eating out.

The salmon starters were beyond delicious, thanks to a cheeky burst of vanilla and lemon zest. Oh and edible flowers of course! Next up was veal, slow cooked in a coffee and wine sauce, served on a bed of potato puree. To the surprise of no one, we both made short work of this delectable main course. However, that was all just a warm up for the main event; dessert. And they really saved the best until last, producing a true She & Hem favourite, an affogato! This wasn’t just any affogato mind you. This one was made with vanilla and cinnamon ice cream, heavenly rum and dulce de leche ripple and topped with a shot of (you guessed it!) coffee! Affo go on that! Truly, this was a Rolls Royce of desserts.

Thank you so much for inviting us along Nespresso. We can’t wait to check out the pop-up boutique very soon!

Crown and Glory X House of Fraser

We are both huge Crown and Glory fans so we were so very excited to hear that their Candy Shop pop-up in House of Fraser #cgxhof, was going to be coming to Bristol. What was doubly exciting was that the wonderful Sophie and Hayley from Blogclub had only gone and arranged a special Crown and Glory Blogclub event, pretty cool huh? Although the tickets sold out in under one minute (Bristol gals love a flower crown dontyaknow), we were lucky enough to get on the guest list and went on a jolly jaunt down to Cabot Circus in Bristol to create some beautiful bespoke floral goodies.

After sipping on a glass of fizz and scoffing a tasty cupcake, the lovely Sophie asked us to look at the array of glorious flowers and pop our favourites into a pot (as seen below), ready for herself and Gareth to work their magic. They are both too talented for words and watching them work away with such passion and precision was truly inspiring. Not only is Gareth a whizz at knocking up a stunning floral crown, but we also overheard that he made the fabulous cart workstation. Our new favourite flower-power couple for sure.

Whilst chatting to our favourite local blogger babes (including the lovely Emily from Mermaid Gossip pictured above and Sarah pictured below), we delved straight in and chose a magnificent mixture of yellows and oranges and pinks and reds. It’s all about the colour with Crown and Glory! Both of our crowns were created by Gareth who spent so much time and attention on them, we are absolutely thrilled with the results. Look out for them popping up very soon in an upcoming style post.

Crown and Glory are definitely the place to go to for loud and proud floral crowns, sparkly bows and perfect wedding accessories. If you live in the South West, they are going to be in House of Fraser at Bristol Cabot Circus today until Sunday 15th May, but if you don’t get chance to pop down to the Candy Shop, you must check out their website. It’s just so pretty.

Jo and Victoria Hit the Road

Would you just look at that beautiful camper van? A green dream parked in the perfect spot for a pair of bloggers celebrating their THIRD blog birthday! We can’t believe that She and Hem is now three years old. Happy Birthday to us! Thank you to everyone who has followed our little blogger journey this far. We are so thrilled with how far we’ve come, and are super excited about the future. Who knows what we will be up to in three years time? We’d love for She and Hem to grow and grow.

The sun is finally shining here in Bristol, so we grabbed our cameras and hit the road with our gorgeous new summer dresses from Carousel, who we discovered last year. If you love fun and colourful prints, you should definitely check them out. Both of our dresses are from Irish brand Circus, who love all things vintage. Jo wears the Loretta Tree Dress*, which is inspired by the dresses of the 1940’s with a cute tie waist and flattering shape. The fun tree print will be prefect for posing next to the pink blossom trees that seem to take over Bristol during Springtime. I (Victoria) am wearing the vivid blue Gina Parrot Dress*, which has more of a 1950’s shape with a gorgeous flared A-line skirt. The shirt style makes this dress an excellent transitional piece, which will see me through the Spring and Summer seasons.

We accessorized these darling dresses with polkadot tights from UK Tights*, and matching pastel clutch bags from Aspire Style*. Jo’s dandy dachshund necklace, seen above, is from Tatty Devine. He’s so adorable! The matching silver shoes were a completely unplanned coincidence, we just seem to have quite the knack for twinning. Jo’s pumps are from Topshop and my loafers are from Boden.

Hip to be Berkeley Square

We love any excuse for a girly sleepover so when we were invited to stay the night at a plush suite only a 10 minute walk from our houses, we jumped at the chance!  Overnight bags were packed, popcorn was acquired and pyjamas were the outfits of choice.

The plush suite in question is part of The Crescent, a Grade II listed Georgian Townhouse that is made up of five one-bedroom apartments. It’s rather grand indeed with each apartment taking up an entire floor! The Crescent itself is owned by the rather-fancy-indeed Berkeley Square Hotel, which is a 30 second walk round the corner and where we headed to check-in. After a warm welcome and a tour of our suite, which included a look at the communal garden, we were informed that we were also entitled to membership at The Square Club, their own private members club(!),  and the Nuffield gym and swimming pool. After digesting all that information we proceeded to dissolve into fits of giggles as we discovered to our eternal joy that the TV was a 42″ projector that filled pretty much an entire wall. There would be no gym going for these two bloggers.

We would happily have stayed for a week! Which, thanks to the handy bespoke kitchen, you easily could. There are so many gorgeous personal touches that made our suite feel so special. As well as the beautiful furniture (total interior design inspo), we loved the effort to keep things local with the complimentary welcome basket of fresh fruit, sherry, loose leaf tea, fresh coffee and hand baked biscuits all coming with tags explaining where in Bristol they had come from.

We also MUST talk about the word’s grandest bathroom (it even has a fireplace) which provided further giggling opportunities thanks to the double door being made of glass. We can’t imagine you would stay in a one bedroom suite with someone you didn’t know well but be prepared to watch your companion bathe as you lie in bed. STEAMY. If that doesn’t appeal, you also have the option to watch a TV that comes complete with Netflix and YouTube. And yes we did lie in bed watching our own YouTube channel, what of it?

Hip to be Berkeley Square | She and Hem Hip to be Berkeley Square | She and Hem

After a very comfy night in our king-sized bed, we nipped back up to The Berkeley Square for breakfast at their highly regarded in-house restaurant, The Square Kitchen. We always love it when a hotel breakfast comes with a menu to order from so we were very happy indeed when we were presented with a nice list of faves! Hello eggs royale! As well as the menu selection, there was also a fabulous spread of fresh fruit, pastries, cereals, juices and, err, spreads to choose from. All the food was delicious and it was certainly a great way to start our day of site seeing (oh no wait, we live here! back to bed for more YouTube it is….)

All in all it was a real treat! The only mild miffling point we could make was the length of the free wifi password (seriously it was like tapping in War and Peace) which really isn’t much to complain about, is it?

Thanks for having us!

Ahoy there! The lovely folk at Aspire Style have kindly invited us to take part in their latest Blogger Style Challenge. We were given the not-so-arduous task of choosing and styling a dress from their wonderful selection. As massive Emily and Fin fans, we couldn’t resist nabbing a couple of their newest fabulous prints. Aren’t they lovely? As regular readers will know, we do love to match our outfits to the local scenery, so we ventured on down to the colourful harbourside in search of the perfect shooting place.

We found the ideal location in the form of a cute boat trip office near to the SS. Great Britain. If you’ve ever been to Bristol, you will know that we are BIG on boat trips here. I (Victoria) even incorporated one into my wedding day! To celebrate this, I chose the glorious vintage inspired sailboat print Isobel Dress*, then went a bit potty for pastels with a pink 50’s cardigan from Boden* and matching pink brogues from New Look. Although Spring has officially sprung, it was a little windy around the water, so I accessorised sensibly with white woolly tights from UK Tights. My pink belt is from Primark, although it is no longer available – I’m afraid that ship has sailed.

Jo’s Jenny dress* is covered in such a super synchronised swimmer print that she was getting compliments all day long. We both completely fell in love with the flattering cut of the dress and the contrasting blue buttons. You’ll definitely be seeing us in more of the Jenny cuts, they are so beautiful – we are going to dive right in! Jo teamed her swimmers with a pop of metalic with silver flats from Topshop and vintage silver belt. Her fabulous flamingo cardigan is from Bryony and Co* and her polkadot tights are from…you guessed it, UK Tights. They go swimmingly well together indeed!

It is pretty much impossible to have a bad time in Bath. The architecture is stunning and the range of eateries are out of this world. We consider ourselves to be ever so lucky that it is just a mere 12 minutes from Bristol on the train!

As you can imagine, we were extremely excited last month when an invite popped into our inbox from Harington’s Hotel asking if we’d like to go along to a relaxing spa day in the fair city. A spa day you say? Who could refuse? We spent the next week or so looking forward to bubbling jacuzzi’s, sweltering steam rooms and lounging for hours in the sauna. The reality was a little different, as despite their outdoor hot tub being particularly lovely, it was an exceptionally chilly day! Bravo to the girls who jumped straight in though!

Whilst they bubbled away we did what we do best and sampled as much food and drink as humanly possible. Winner! And we were very well catered for indeed with trays of delicious canapes, an incredible hot chocolate bar and boxes a plenty of the very-posh-indeed Charlotte Brunswick handmade chocolates! Crikey!

After a tour of some of the unique rooms in the hotel, we sat down for a cheeky espresso martini before heading off to view a couple of the hotel’s separate apartments, located just a couple of minutes walk from the main hotel. Their location is absolutely perfect, right in the very centre of the city and their interiors are just smashing. Almost as smashing as the delicious afternoon tea which rounded off a lovely day with some of our favourite local bloggers. Cakes, scones and sandwiches…oh my!

It’s fair to say we were quite full by the time we left but as we sat on the train home we discovered some fudge courtesy of Sarah’s Heavenly Fudge – along with a small porcelain bath tub of course – in our goody bag. You’ll be relieved to hear that we found some extra room.

Thank you to all at Harington’s Hotel for the tour and the delicious afternoon tea. Thank you also to the lovely team at Lush for our wonderful hand massages, we can’t wait to head to Lush Bath Spa for some more pampering!

Beat the Rush

RUSH Hair and Beauty Review | She and Hem | BristolRUSH Hair and Beauty Review | She and Hem | BristolRUSH Hair and Beauty Review | She and Hem | Bristol

No, it’s not hair-say, a new hairdressers has opened in Bristol! When the invite landed in our inbox to pop for a chop at the new Rush Hair and Beauty salon on The Horsefair in the centre of Bristol, we didn’t need to mullet over. We have a heck of a lot of hair between us, so it’s really important that we try to keep it in tip top condition, especially in this monstrous weather. Long hair and blusterous winds are a frightful mix. Hair-raising stuff for sure!

We were handed a glass of champagne and chatted with our hairdressers, the wonderful Josh and Laura, about what we wanted. I (Victoria) am currently growing my hair, so although Josh took only a a little off of the length, he made sure we waved goodbye to all of my lifeless ends. Good riddance bad ends! My hair felt extremely light and swishy after and really did look so much healthier. We discussed tips on promoting hair growth, and Josh recommended that I use a hair mask about once a week to add moisture and shine. Since my visit to Rush, I have been using a Kérastase mask and I’ve really noticed the difference. My barnet has been exceptionally shiny, but I promise I haven’t let it go to my head! Laura had her work cut out finding the end of Jo’s hair, but once she did, she set to work and the results were absolutely gorgeous. I always love to see Jo’s hair curled, and Laura did such an incredible styling job with just a pair of GHD’s. What a talent.

After a few cheeky selfies we parted ways, and I used every shop window en route home as a mirror to admire my luscious locks! We both definitely recommend a trip to see Laura and Josh. They really know their stuff, listened to our needs and intuitively produced exactly what we both wanted without any fuss. You could say they’re real big wigs of the stylist world. In fact, that very evening we raved about them to our mutual BFF Ellie, who booked an appointment and had her hair cut at Rush yesterday. Let me tell you, she looks INCREDIBLE! So, thank you Rush for inviting us and making us feel so comfortable at your super salon. We’ll be back soon!

Ice and Pies!

Ice and Pies | At-Bristol Ice Skating | Bristol Bloggers

What a bunch of blogger babes! On Friday night I (Victoria) wrapped up warm and joined Sophie from Saints On A Plane, Hayley from Bonjour, Blogger!, Dulcie from La Dulcie Vita and Amie from Credit Crunch Chic (Tara from The Style Rawr and Lucy from The Parent Game not pictured) for a night of Ice and Pies! We looked like an off duty ice skating girl band who only eat pies. Incidentally, this is pretty much my dream come true.

Every festive season I excitedly exclaim how I’d love to have a whizz around the rink at At-Bristol, but I never seem to get around to it before it vanishes for another year. Instead, I just bore my friends with my story about how Christopher Dean once called me ‘a ray of sunshine’. Unfortunately, compliments from skating legends do not equal skating prowess, and I can just about shuffle around the outside of the rink without falling over. Luckily for me, the soundtrack was spot on, so I felt pretty great creeping zooming along to Shake It Off.

For dinner, we popped along to St Nick’s night market to sample the new festive pies from Pieminister, which were pretty damn tasty. Myself and Hayley went for the Three Kings pie, which contains a mouthwatering combination of turkey, smoked bacon, parsnips and cranberries. It’s like Christmas in a pie. Merry Piemass indeed! It would definitely get more than 3.142 out of 5 from me…

The Mercure Grange Hotel, Bristol.

The Mercure Grange Hotel in Bristol | She and Hem The Mercure Grange Hotel in Bristol | She and Hem The Mercure Grange Hotel in Bristol | She and Hem The Mercure Grange Hotel in Bristol | She and Hem The Mercure Grange Hotel in Bristol | She and Hem

During the summer I spent a long time deciding where I wanted to spend the night before my wedding. I knew that I wanted my three lovely bridesmaids to stay with me, so that we could do all of those last minute preparations (eating McDonald’s, gossiping about boys and watching Don’t Tell The Bride) together, and I felt that my flat would just be too small to do this in ultimate comfort. I looked into various local hotels and also renting an apartment for the four of us, but most just didn’t cut the mustard and didn’t seem quite special enough. Unfortunately, the odd few that looked tempting were waaay out of my budget!

Luckily, I didn’t need to fret for too long, as the lovely folks from Mercure offered me a little pre-wedding present in the form of a discount for The Grange Hotel, near Winterbourne in Bristol. Eeeeeek! After having a look at their webpage, I could not have been happier. With 18 acres of gorgeous grounds, and a bevy of charming, quirkily decorated and beautiful rooms, it really did tick every box! After booking the rooms, I was so excited about telling my bridesmaids, and I think they were equally as thrilled as I was to be having a night of luxury. What a delight! We all agreed that one major highlight of the stay was the incredible breakfast. Now, the photo above may make it look like we were quite tame, but alas, the fruit and pastries were just our first course. Well, it would have been pretty rude not to try it all, right?

I had a such a peaceful night’s sleep and woke up feeling refreshed and ready to face the Best Day Ever. Luckily, my bridesmaids managed to persuade me to change out of my incredible cat pyjamas. Thank you for the wonderful stay Mercure!

Bristol Fashion Week AW15

On Thursday I popped down to The Mall at Cribbs Causeway with my friend, fashion icon and fellow M&S appreciator Kelly to catch one of the runway shows of Bristol Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 15. This was my third BFW and it was definitely the best so far thanks to the brilliant movie theme that was embraced from start to finish! It was such a nice touch to be welcomed with popcorn and Kelly and I had a great time admiring the movie posters as we drank our delicious fruity drinks.

she and Hem | Bristol Fashion Week AW15she and Hem | Bristol Fashion Week AW15

The first thing to catch our eye on the catwalk was the ‘High Shine’ collection from John Lewis! You can’t beat a bit of glitz and glamour and I suddenly became all about sparkles, faux fur and sunglasses! What a combination! Plus, how much do I want to be the sort of girl to rock up at the work Christmas party wearing an actual crown?? I also loved the 70s injection courtesy of M&S during the ‘Nomadic’ segment. I can totally see myself trying this look out come the colder weather and couldn’t help but notice the similarities between that pink hat and the one from Accessorize I fell in love with in our last post! I may have made a sneaky purchase after the show!

she and Hem | Bristol Fashion Week AW15she and Hem | Bristol Fashion Week AW15she and Hem | Bristol Fashion Week AW15she and Hem | Bristol Fashion Week AW15she and Hem | Bristol Fashion Week AW15she and Hem | Bristol Fashion Week AW15

As someone who likes to dress in as many bright colours as possible, the large amount of grey and black on the catwalk (the grey coat appears to be this seasons staple) didn’t really do it for me although, once again, I was really feeling the faux fur accessories! I’m going to be a big fan of this trend I can see! Both Kelly and I also enjoyed the liberal use of colourful tights which gave everything a bit of a Gossip Girl vibe and is certainly something I will be happy to embrace!

she and Hem | Bristol Fashion Week AW15she and Hem | Bristol Fashion Week AW15she and Hem | Bristol Fashion Week AW15

The two stand out pieces for us were the black sequin jacket (which was spectacularly hard to photograph) from M&S, naturally. It’s absolutely stunning and a brilliant take on the biker jacket. Imagine throwing that on top of your dresses come party season! We did several laps of the store after the show but sadly couldn’t find it (probably just as well as it’s £89) but it is available online should you be feeling flush. The other was the gold and purple fringe dress of dreams from Phase Eight at John Lewis which had Kelly shouting “MAKE SURE YOU TAKE PHOTOS OF THAT!” at me as it came sashaying down the catwalk, fringe all over the shop. What a stunner.

Did you go to Bristol Fashion Week? What was your favourite piece? And how are we all feeling about crimped hair??
