Buses, bikes and brights were all we were thinking about this Bank Holiday Monday when we roamed the streets of Bristol in the rain, searching for the perfect place to stop and photograph these truly magnificent outfits. As you can see, it takes more than a little drizzle to dampen our spirits, especially when armed with a cape of which Super Woman would be jealous. I (Victoria) like to think we totally nailed superhero chic whilst unintentionally annoying the general public by being just so darn happy. Smiling is a superpower, right?

If you hadn’t already guessed by the blog post title, everything we are wearing (apart from those gormless grins) comes from She and Hem faves Boden. Although we usually head straight to the dress section when online shopping, on this occasion we were both struck by the incredible selection of statement skirts and shirts. Separates are totally going to be our new ‘thing’, whatever a ‘thing’ is. We were a little nervous about our jacket choices, as neither of us have attempted to pull off suede (!) or a cape (!!) before, although we shouldn’t have been have been worried, as they complimented the jazzy shirts and vibrant skirts marvelously. You win again, Boden.

I am completely and utterly obsessed with yellow and grey at the moment as *spoilers* they’re going to feature VERY heavily at a certain ‘best day of my life’ this month. So, there was no doubt about it, I had to have the Julia Patch Pocket Skirt* in yellow and the grey suede Biker Jacket*. When choosing a top to complete the look, I wanted to pick something I would get loads of wear out of, while still being fun. The reason I chose the bike print shirt is pretty simple; bikes are cool. Also, I recently sold my beloved Dawes Duchess (seen in this post) to help pay for my honeymoon, so although I now don’t have a bike, I do have a really great shirt*. Thanks for easing my misery Boden, double thumbs up to you! I’m also particularly partial to a good, sturdy flat shoe, so I’ve not taken the Metallic Finged Loafers* off since they were delicately squished through my letter box by my lovely postie. Sometimes I think I see that guy more than my fiancé…

Jo channeled her inner Red Riding Hood with the fabulous Charlotte Cape* which she swooshed about in after a bit of reassurance that it looked good. Apparently wearing a cape for the first time is quite scary (“where are the sleeves?” “what do I do with my arms?” “will a backing dancer pull me over?”) but she soon settled into it and I hope you’ll agree that it looks pretty fly. We are both really loving red and pink at the moment so I imagine it will be sported a lot over the coming months! She teamed it with the same style shirt* as the bikes, but in the rather fetching bus print and a sale bargain skirt that sadly seems to have sold out now. It’s the Fun Sixties Mini if you want to try your luck! Her grey and silver Pointed Loafers* were the perfect way to finish off her look.

We loved shooting our last Sugarhill Boutique post so much, we’ve decided to do another one and woah, what a scorcher it was too. The sunny climate called for up do’s, a trip to the local park, and matching heart sunglasses. What a blooming brilliant way to spend a Saturday morning! As you might be able to tell we both fell for the 1960’s style polkadot print from their new Autumn/Winter collection and couldn’t resist signing on the dotted line and styling it two ways. Both the Hayley Spot Jacquard Skirt* and the Dahlia Spot Dress* are super fun, whilst being so easy to wear, which are both big requirements for any item in the She and Hem wardrobe.

I (Victoria) took a walk on the wild side and paired the spotty skirt with the rawrsome Bella Tiger Blouse*. With tons of floating tiger heads, gold buttons and a dropped back, it’s pretty freakin’ fierce and we ain’t lion! Jo’s dress is the star of the show with a super chic tunic shape and snazzy zip detail, it’s the perfect dress to take you from work to play.

Now for the big bows! I accessorised my outfit with a black ribbon, sunglasses from Primark, a floral headband from New Look, and white heeled ASOS shoes (similar here). Jo layered her dress over a Zara blouse and accessorised with a humongous black bow headband from Forever 21, TkMaxx sunglasses, a cat shaped Dahlia bag, and black VANDER point shoes from Topshop.

What do you think? Are you ready to think about Autumn?

Have you been looking for some fabulous (yet affordable!) vintage pieces to jazz up your wardrobe, without a moth ball in sight? Well, look no further dear, stylish reader! Let us introduce you to the wonderful Thirty 8 Birds over at ASOS Marketplace. You are most welcome.

Considering I (Victoria) am completely obsessed with ASOS, I’m quite embarrassed that it has taken me this long to seriously explore ASOS Marketplace. Now that I have, I’m completely hooked. With 800 boutiques selling new and vintage items from around the world, I will never have to leave the house to go shopping again. Hopefully Jo will agree my proposal to rename the blog She and Hermit.

Jo wore white vintage 90’s dungarees with black polka-dots, black tights from UK Tights and a mustard top from Marks and Spencer. She accessorised with flat black boots from Topshop, heart sunglasses from Moschino via TK Maxx and one of the best novelty bags I’ve ever seen (and I’m not just saying that because I bought it for her…) from Next, which is also available here. In true She and Hem style, we decided to go a little matchy matchy, so I wore monochrome gingham dungarees, which are still available here, with black tights from UK Tights. My white chunky heels were an awesome ASOS bargain and my coordinating polka-dot sunglasses are from Primark.

On the short walk home from the shoot we found the perfect place to sit, have a quick catch up, throw blossom at each other and think of the perfect quote for the Tombola’s True Friendship feature, and here is what we came up with!

During London Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2015, we spent three incredibly fun days attending shows, randomly bumping into blogger buddies and drinking several palm trees worth of Vita Coco. With British fashion stronger than ever, we were so happy to be in the capital for one of our favourite events of the year. Second only to pancake day, obviously.

On day one, with a strong coffee in hand, we headed over to Somerset House super early ready for the first show of the season, J.JS Lee. After the show, and before bumping into the lovely Joseph and Kristabel, we took a few outfit photos in the midst of all the fashionable fun. We were very kindly loaned a few beautiful items from the glorious Heartfelt Vintage in Bristol. I (Victoria) wore an original 1970’s black velvet skirt with a colorful jacket by House of Frou Frou, both from Heartfelt Vintage. My white shirt is from Marks & Spencer, the yellow square shoulder bag is vintage and my new favourite Dilly heels are Orla Kiely for Clarks. Jo’s floral 1950’s dress and vintage cloche also came from Heartfelt vintage, which she teamed with a black leather jacket from Marks & Spencer, a yellow Westminster bag from Boden and black round heel ankle boots from The Whitepepper.

Bangers and Fash

December has finally arrived and with it the perfect excuse to dress up all fancy every day of the week! Christmas time is party time afterall! Pass us a mince pie and some mulled wine, will you?

We do love a reason to glam up and decided to break out our new festive dresses from the Yumi partywear collection* yesterday for a vintage filled day of fun at the Heartfelt Vintage shop in Bristol. After being completely transformed by Able Mabel who did an incredible job on our hair and Evie Smith who truly made us look the part, we felt ready to hit the dance floor!

She and Hem | Bangers and Fash | Yumi She and Hem | Bangers and Fash | Yumi

Jo: I layered my beautiful silver Floral Prom Dress* over a super sparkly sequin top from New Look. I thought it added some extra pizzazz (you can never have too much pizzazz) and as I don’t like things to be too low cut, it protected my modesty. I added a black belt from ASOS, white tights from Topshop and some super sparkly high heels from Primark.

She and Hem | Bangers and Fash | YumiShe and Hem | Bangers and Fash | Yumi

Victoria: My sleeveless Wallpaper Print Dress* is party perfect! I’m not usually a big fan of red dresses, but I was drawn to the shirt collar and easy to wear shape. I teamed it with black striped tights from Marks and Spencer, silver brogues from Next and a gorgeous black vintage bag from Heartfelt Vintage in Bristol.

In the evening we went to the fireworks which were put on to celebrate 150 years of the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Don’t they look incredible?! I know we’ve said it before but we sure do love Bristol.

We’ll be posting more about our day at Heartfelt later in the week!

Fever London #STYLEMYNIGHT

She and Hem | Fever #STYLEMYNIGHT

It’s beginning to look a lot like late November Christmas which means I am beginning to stock up on as many gold sparkly things that I can lay my glittery mitts on! (Note to self: buy glittery mitts) After all, this is the season to wear sequins and I for one am all for a bit of bling! I had already begun digging out my seasonal wears when the lovely folk at Fever London invited me (and Victoria too but unfortunately you only get to look at my festive mug as she has fled the country) to take part in their #STYLEMYNIGHT challenge to create the perfect evening look from their occasion collection.

As a fan of Fever London’s vintage style, I knew picking a dress was going to be easy! I wasn’t wrong and as soon as I saw the Barberella Prom Dress* I was in love! It’s such a fun piece and the beautiful gold and blue circular pattern is a shimmery triumph! I decided to embrace the ice cool palette and teamed it with white tights from ASOS, gold glittery heels from Dune, a gold belt from Primark, my trusty Cara Camera bag from Accessorize and a tinsel bow headband from ASOS. I was sort of aiming for an Alice in Wonderland does NYE vibe!

One of the biggest things I struggle with when putting together occasion worthy outfits is what to do about keeping warm! I saw that Fever London had a great range of party appropriate cover-ups and decided on a Ursa Sparkly Cardigan* to complement my already quite glitzy outfit! I am so pleased with it and know it will be jazzing up my outfits from now on!

She and Hem | Fever #STYLEMYNIGHTShe and Hem | Fever #STYLEMYNIGHT

I completed my look with my gorgeous Eliza Coat from Boden* which will definitely keep me nice and warm when I am inevitably waiting for a taxi home. I think the pink looks lovely against the blue and gold tones of the dress.

Head over to the Fever London Facebook page where you can check out all the blogger looks from the #STYLEMYNIGHT challenge and vote for your favourite (*cough*). But what’s in it for ME I hear you cry! Well, the answer is potentially £200 worth of Fever London vouchers which one lucky voter will win! Good luck!

Emily and Fin for the win

She and Hem | Emily and Fin

If you read this ol’ blog of ours with any degree of regularity, you will already be familiar with our love of London based brand, Emily and Fin (who now have their very own online shop!). Never ones to shy away from a novelty print, we have long been fans of their original designs and tendency to create drop dead gorgeous dresses. We were therefore rather delighted to be offered the chance to try out a couple of pieces from their stunning A/W collection which features, among others, deers (!), figure skaters (!), envelopes (!) and our chosen prints of skiers (!) and an ENTIRE tea party (!).

She and Hem | Emily and FinShe and Hem | Emily and FinShe and Hem | Emily and FinShe and Hem | Emily and Fin

As, regrettably, the limited  non-existent She and Hem budget meant we couldn’t jet off to the French Alps for a full blown ski themed post, we settled for the next best thing and jetted off down the road instead for a tea party at the beautiful Cox and Baloney. This lovely Bristol based vintage boutique and tearooms (and Emily and Fin stockist no less) has created an entire vintage tea party wonderland in their private ‘snug’ downstairs. We were in prop heaven!

Seriously, we would happily move in! And just look at those dress prints! Victoria’s Grey Tea Time* dress features the most stunning selection of designs including toast, whisks, egg cups, tea canisters, cafetieres, dinner plates, a cuddly toy. You get the idea. She decided to let the print do the talking and went for bold red lips and nails over accessories and added some ladylike gold heels from Office to complete her look. I also decided to embrace a pop of red in order to compliment my delightfully retro Blue Skiers* print and added a red belt New Look and Orla Kiely for Clarks wedges. I’ve really been embracing white tights recently and felt they were the perfect way to finish this outfit off.

She and Hem | Emily and FinShe and Hem | Emily and FinShe and Hem | Emily and FinShe and Hem | Emily and Fin

As well as their inevitably wonderful prints, Emily and Fin dresses are usually available in at least a couple of their signature flattering shapes. We have previously always been Lucy girls, a shorter a-line style of dress with a full skirt, but both decided that a change was as good as a dress and plumped for the Sophie (we look forward to the Jo and Victoria styles, obvs). The Sophie is a semi-fitted style with a wide cru neckline and adorable batwing sleeves. We are both duly converted and love this shape! It’s also worth mentioning that both the Lucy and the Sophie have hidden pockets which is always a She and Hem deal-breaker.

Many thanks to Emily and Fin for this wonderful treat, to Cox and Baloney for allowing us free reign in their snug and to our lovely friend Ailsa for giving up her Saturday morning to help us with the photos!

Yumi and Everyone We Know

She and Hem | Yumi Dresses | UK Tights

As Autumn approaches, the She and Hem weekend wardrobe progresses from novelty/pretty dresses, to novelty/pretty dresses with slightly longer sleeves and tights. Sometimes we go crazy and throw on a cardigan. It is an issue we really need to a-dress…along with our obsession with puns.

Whilst exploring the beautiful Bluestone National Park in Pembrokeshire last weekend, we plaited our hair, popped a picnic into our golf buggy and parked up at the lake. We had a lovely afternoon stroll to really relax after a busy morning of making waves in the pool and indulging in pastries at the bakery. It’s a hard life being a blogger, but like the bakers who made our pastries, we think we rise to the occasion. It’s the yeast we can do.

Victoria: I wore my lace print prom dress from Yumi*. Although I absolutely love the design and texture of this dress, I’m not a big fan of a revealing neckline and when trying this dress on I felt far too insecure to wear it without a top underneath. Luckily, Jo lent me a mustard slip from Marks and Spencer, which covered my modesty without overpowering the white tones of the dress. The black big spot tights are from Gipsy via UK Tights* and the white heart shaped sunglasses are from Dahlia. My sumptuous gold block heels are from Topshop.

She and Hem | Yumi Dresses | UK TightsShe and Hem | Yumi Dresses | UK Tights

Jo: I had planned to wear this gorgeous Dipsy Daisy Dress from Yumi* with a mustard slip underneath but mine miraculously disappeared…..I jest, I jest. I do love a good pop of yellow though so this dress with its mustard belt and detailing really did, errr, cut the mustard for me! It’s also a really flattering cut, with a jersey fabric and a neatly nipped in waist. I also adore the beautiful detailing on the daisies and have surprised myself by digging the dip-dye finish, which will no doubt inspire lots of terrible ‘has it run in the wash?’ jokes from my Dad. I accessoried with white tights from UK Tights*, shoes from Orla Kiely for Clarks and Topshop sunglasses (although our sunglasses were slightly interchangeable it would seem).

Last Friday after indulging in a jolly gin-fueled tea party to celebrate all of those little life achievements that often get neglected due to busy schedules, we decided to throw on our new summer glad rags and head to our local park to continue the party! We are so thrilled that we did as we were greeted by a colourful mini-meadow of beautiful flowers.

She and Hem | RareShe and Hem | RareShe and Hem | Rare | Solillas She and Hem | Rare

Victoria: I wore a black embroidered trim playsuit from Rare* with over-sized sunglasses from Accessorize. My super bright orange nail polish is from Missguided and oh boy, I have found the comfiest shoes ever! They are handmade Menorcan sandals from Solillas*. I had planned on saving these for my upcoming holiday to Tunisia, but when I tried them on with this playsuit I was pleasantly surprised about how perfectly the turquoise complimented the embroidery, and the stylish deal was done. Marvelous!

She and Hem | RareShe and Hem | Rare

Jo: I adore this lovely floral summer dress from Rare*, the beautiful shades of green and orange look so pretty together and it’s just so easy to wear! It doesn’t crease (praise be!) and the slightly heavy material means there is no risk of a breezey disaster. Perfect English Summer wear! I accessoried it simply with a pair of cream Faith brogues from the Debenhams sale and my go to Topshop sunglasses. Oh, and about one million flowers.

Fancy Floral

She and Hem | Fancy Floral

Despite rather liking them, I have been a little bit afraid of trying out jumpsuits. People whose opinion I greatly value seem to hate them with a passion I haven’t seen since Nasty Nick wrote all those notes on Big Brother. This, however, is one of the many reasons why I love Victoria for she is usually the one to go against the crowd and encourage me to buy the things I might otherwise chicken out of!

She and Hem | Fancy FloralShe and Hem | Fancy Floral She and Hem | Fancy Floral

I finally took the jumpsuit plunge when I spotted this floral number on the Topshop website! A couple of She and Hem whatsapps later and we had concluded that it was destined to be mine. When it arrived I knew I had made the right choice. I LOVE it and am now a complete jumpsuit convert!

She and Hem | Fancy FloralShe and Hem | Fancy FloralShe and Hem | Fancy Floral

I accessorised it simply with Topshop sunglasses, a black ASOS belt and some fab black wedge sandals from Warehouse at House of Fraser*. I usually really struggle to find comfy summer footwear but these are just perfect! I can see this is going to be my go to summer look.

And, just in case you hadn’t noticed, last weekend I unexpectedly found myself in the most beautiful poppy field on the outskirts of Bristol. Naturally, I then took about 500 photos to document the experience and had a great time larking around like a lunatic.
