Hello hello! Welcome back to Double Thumbs Dresses, our roundup of the frocks we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted double thumbs seal of approval! Remember back in February when I said I was ready to start writing these posts again after having baby? Yeah, sorry about that – turns out having a baby is quite time consuming. What I have found time for, however, is online shopping and over the past couple of months (mostly at 3am) I’ve been saving all the frocks that have caught my eye meaning I’ve accumulated somewhat of a bumper crop. So, here they are all! ENJOY.

When Aspire Style got in touch to ask if we’d like to style a few pieces from their ‘New In‘ section, we were a little nervous. Not because we didn’t think there would be anything that we liked, but because we were concerned we wouldn’t be able to fit into anything! These bumps are getting out of hand! How wrong we were though, as our favourite maternity fashion hack (sizing up) worked a treat.
Jo’s chevron stripe shift dress* by Closet is so striking, it’s a must for any chevron fan. Keen readers may have also spotted that it fits all of She and Hem’s dream dress requirements; it’s a good lentgh, has cute sleeves and most importantly…pockets! Dreamy. Jo kept her styling simple with black Boden boots* and spotty grey tights* from UK Tights. I picked the adorable Julita snow dress* by Louche in the hope that I’ll be able to squeeze into it a few more times over the festive period. With its Christmas trees, deer and snowflakes, it could just be the perfect Christmas print! I would say it hits the right balance between twee and subtle, but then again, during they festive period, I think anything goes. Next time Louche, plonk some candy canes on it will ya?
Whilst browsing Aspire, I spotted that fabulous pink fluffy jumper* by Yumi. Now, while I’m not usually a huge fan of pink (it doesn’t really get my party started), I felt like it had to be mine. Thanks to the loose fit, I’ve recently been layering it over a maternity top and teaming it with jeans and boots, and boy oh boy it’s like a big, warm hug. As we shot this on quite a chilly day, I wore some thick maternity tights* from UK Tights and blue Boden boots* (similar here).
Have you spotted any festive pieces that take your fancy?
Hi! it’s sale time again and I am totally ready for some bargains! So, without further ado, here is a pretty massive list of fabulous frocks that have previously been deemed worthy of the highly coveted Double Thumbs seal of approval but have now been deemed worthy enough to go in the sale. Enjoy!
If anything takes your fancy, just click the dress and it will take you to the website!
I don’t usually appear on Double Thumbs but seeing as this dress has since disappeared from the Sainsbury’s website I was left with little choice as I couldn’t not feature the stripey supermarket stunner that has stolen my heart! If you live near a Sainsbury’s that stocks TU then you may be able to get your hands on this little beaut. If not, I thought this little deckchair inspired number from Fever was a more than adequate substitute. Gotta love a candy stripe!
I love these two summery prints from Seasalt. The vintage inspired shell number is perfect seaside attire and I really like the nice simple shape – plus it has pockets! Win. I am also totally obsessed with the beach umbrella print, that’s one packed beach! It’s all so lovely and fun – perfect for the warmer weather. Even in the rain we must parasol-dier on.
Who doesn’t love a cherry on top of their frock? This fruity number from Lady V is a real delight. I’ve been a fan of their 1950s inspired dresses for many a year now but this is my favourite print for some time. The neckline is super cute!
The princess inside of me desperately wants to prance about in this Chi Chi dress. It’s tulley scrumptious! Look at that frill waist! The whole thing is outrageously pretty and if you invite me to your wedding, I will turn up in this.
OK so this ASOS ruffle dress looks a little short but I think you all know me well enough by now to know that I’m always going to be a total sucker for a massive bow, not that she’s bothered to tie it properly. FOR SHAME, MODEL.
Speaking of big bows, this Lindy Bop dress has a rather splendid yellow one on display. How gorgeous is that Venice print? The whole thing is just smashing! Some extra good news is that Aspire Style who stock this dress are still offering our readers a 10% discount if you enter the code ‘sheandhem’ as you check out. You are welcome!
Last but not least we have this lovely sixties yellow number from Boden. I love the classic shift shape but it’s that knockout geometric print that really makes this one special. I really love the contrasting white and yellow – good work, everyone.
Hello and welcome to the 30th Accessories to Murder! Are you ready to delve into the world of amazing accessories? Excellent. Before we crack on, just a heads up, this particular Accessories to Murder contains a sponsored link but please be assured we only feature the accessories we consider tip top! Without further ado, here are the accessories that have made it onto this week’s She and Hem’s Most Wanted.
Honey, could this sun hat bee any cuter? I don’t think so! And hive fives all round for that incredible name. Modcloth are the ultimate product naming champions, which just makes me love them even more. If you love them too, you need to buy this hat, but also check out our guest blogger Holly’s awesome post about their Modcloth IRL Tour this Summer.
Oh hello there you incredibly jazzy little two-tone gem. This Topshop bag is all kinds of zig-a-zag-ah. Now I’m not quite sure what that means, but Mel B once told me it was a good thing. The contrasting colours of this boxy crossbody give it a really groovy 70s vibe, which just so happens to be one of my favourite fashion eras.
One thing I’ve discovered recently is that Aspire Style don’t just sell excellent dresses, oh no, they have so many great accessories too. In fact, I think I could fill a whole Accessories to Murder with their bits! For now, I have chosen my favourite item which are these glittery cat eye sunglasses in blue and gold. Purrfect! If you spot anything you fancy online, use the Aspire Style discount code SHEANDHEM for a tasty 10% discount. You are welcome.
I’m not sure, but this could this be the perfect demin jacket. It is on the pricey side compared to the other items in today’s round up, but I have been told by people older and wiser than myself that jackets are something you should invest in, so you can wear them year after year. Light denim is not for everyone, but I love it and find it a lot more versatile than the darker alternatives. Check out Paige Jeans to see the jacket’s cute embroidered back, and feel free to let me know if I’m not really cool enough to pull it off!
Hold up! Is it a bag? Is it a hat? Oh my goodness, it’s both! What a world we live in, first friendly robots that can perform heart surgery, and now bags in the shape of hats. Whatever next? Anyway, sandwiched between the two more expensive (but equally fabulous) items, I’ve popped in this novelty bag bargain. £14.69 for a bag that’s also a hat? You can do no wrong.
Speaking of which, Orla Kiely can do no wrong in my eyes. They are my all time favourites. Every London Fashion Week, it’s the Orla show that Jo and I go completely gaga over, and they never disappoint. Their clothing just gets better and better and their new collection is some of their best yet. My number one item from the collection is this flower pot cardigan. Quirky yet simple. Pretty yet practical. Never change Orla!
Any regular readers will know how much we love Emily and Fin, so when the lovely ladies at Aspire Style asked us if we wanted to feature their new Summer range, we jumped at the chance! Not only that but they have very kindly offered us and our readers a wonderful 10% discount for the site, using code SHEANDHEM at the checkout. Apologies to your bank balance in advance!
If you want to try before you buy (and are local to Warwick, Stratford upon Avon, Oxford, Solihull or Coventry) we would definitely recommend popping into an Aspire Style store, which is what we did when we had a lovely city break away in Oxford! They have so much great stuff, we promise you won’t be disappointed!
You can’t walk five minutes down the road in Bristol without finding an incredible mural or brightly coloured door, but we were particularly taken with this beach hut inspired green and white garage door. So much so that we heaped praise onto the owner when he popped out of his house to jump into his car. He was rather chuffed! We hope you’ll agree that it was the perfect match for our Seaside* and Cornish Harbour* print dresses. The Cornish Harbour print is so gorgeous and we love the Seaside print so much that we now both own it! Can we also quickly mention how much we appreciate that all Emily and Fin dresses have pockets! It’s an absolute winner.
I (Victoria) wore the Seaside dress, which features a brilliant beach scene complete with sunbathing ladies, in the Lucy shape. This shape is so flattering, comfortable and easy to wear. I accessorised with pink brogues from New Look (similar available here), matching pink sunglasses from Boden* and clear tights from UK Tights*. My vintage radio bag is from Accessorize, although unfortunately it’s currently out of stock online. Jo decided to pick up the lovely shades of pink and blue in her colourful Cornish harbour and accessorised with pink sunglasses from Amazon, an ice cream bag from Skinny Dip (also out of stock but they always have winning novelty bags so don’t be too glum), a pink Boden belt* and baby blue brogues from M&S (similar available here). Not quite ready to brave a bare leg, white tights from UK Tights* were the order of the day.
Huge thanks to Aspire Style for inviting us to style these beautiful frocks! Which is your fave? Let us know if you pick anything up and don’t forget to use the discount code SHEANDHEM ….
Hello hello! Welcome back to Double Thumbs Dresses, our roundup of the frocks we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted double thumbs seal of approval! Let’s crack on….
I think you all know how much we love Emily and Fin by now (a quick glance at their website will reveal we even have our own edit right now) so it’s no surprise to see them sitting pretty in the top spot this week. This divine deckchair print is oh so summery and I love the colour! So pretty! I’ve really been favouring their Scarlett shape (which you can find on Aspire Style) recently with the lovely button down detail, I find it really flattering and easy to wear. American readers (or those who just hate buttons) can find the same print in the Claudia shape over on Modcloth.
Lovely Lindy Bop have also been adding fab new prints, like my bank account stands a chance of coping. I don’t know what it is with me and ‘swimmer’ prints recently but I seem to be spotting them left right and centre – clearly SS16s unsung trend. I’m loving them though so keep them coming! I’m also seriously swooning over that Parisian border. What an Eiffel!
We always love a fruity number from Cath Kidston and this apples and pears number is no exception. How lovely are those yellows and reds together? It makes me feel all nostalgic as I’m sure I had a similar print dress when I was a child. I really like the look of this new shape too, with a sweet cotton pleat-front style.
I am totally obsessed with this floral print from Marks and Spencer! I think the pops of yellow and blue along with that delightful lace waistband really make this dress stand out. Loving the long sleeves too! It’s just a bit pretty isn’t it?
An excellent novelty print from Sugarhill Boutique who have come over all seaside chic with this deckchair and seagull festooned frock. There are even some cheeky beach huts to be found! So adorable.
Last but not least we have this beautiful ombre floral affair from Oasis. I really love the sweet high neckline and the pleats are fab too. The print is really rather special and I am seriously swooning over the ombre detailing. It’s absolutely stunning.
Hello and welcome to the 28th Accessories to Murder! Are you ready to delve into the world of amazing accessories, including a sneaky cheat entry from Lazy Oaf? Excellent. Without further ado, here are the accessories that have made it onto this week’s She and Hem’s Most Wanted.
Now you may think this is cheating slightly, as a shirt isn’t technically an accessory, but Jo and I have been obsessed with this fun print ever since we saw it on the Queen of Youtube, Zoella. Although it’s one of the best novelty prints I think I’ve ever seen, I am yet to make the slightly pricey purchase, as I wish it was slightly shorter in length. It looked absolutely stunning on Zoe, but that girl has such a banging figure, she’d look great whatever the length. For now, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a range of items in this print.
We feature gorgeous dresses from Thunder Egg all the time on the blog, so I thought it was only right to delve into their accessories section, and man I’m so glad I did because just look at these cute retro inspired brooches! There are plenty of different designs in stock, but my two favourites are the super Sals Soda Pop and the radical Radio Shack brooches. So-da great.
I feel that a demin jacket is a must have item for Spring, as it’s so quick and easy to pop on over a dress when you’re not really sure what the heck the weather is doing. One of the best designs I’ve spotted is the Olivia Jacket from Boden. Unfortunately, some sizes are currently not in stock, but they do have an excellent white version which is available in all sizes, and I may even prefer it to the blue. How controversial!
I’m off on an American adventure next week and whilst looking for some last minute holiday bits, this jazzy swimming costume caught my eye. I can’t resist a ruffle! I can totally see myself getting my Baywatch on, running slow mo down Venice beach in this beauty. Carrying a giant inflatable swan, obviously.
Last but not least, I wanted to feature a new designer who I discovered last week after the lovely Aspire Style sent us a couple of her pastel pouches (featured here) as a little ‘Thank You’ for taking part in their recent blogger challenge. Unfortunately we didn’t win, but the beautiful pouches from Katie Loxton really make up for it!
Let me know your favourite pieces and until next week, keep accessorising!
Would you just look at that beautiful camper van? A green dream parked in the perfect spot for a pair of bloggers celebrating their THIRD blog birthday! We can’t believe that She and Hem is now three years old. Happy Birthday to us! Thank you to everyone who has followed our little blogger journey this far. We are so thrilled with how far we’ve come, and are super excited about the future. Who knows what we will be up to in three years time? We’d love for She and Hem to grow and grow.
The sun is finally shining here in Bristol, so we grabbed our cameras and hit the road with our gorgeous new summer dresses from Carousel, who we discovered last year. If you love fun and colourful prints, you should definitely check them out. Both of our dresses are from Irish brand Circus, who love all things vintage. Jo wears the Loretta Tree Dress*, which is inspired by the dresses of the 1940’s with a cute tie waist and flattering shape. The fun tree print will be prefect for posing next to the pink blossom trees that seem to take over Bristol during Springtime. I (Victoria) am wearing the vivid blue Gina Parrot Dress*, which has more of a 1950’s shape with a gorgeous flared A-line skirt. The shirt style makes this dress an excellent transitional piece, which will see me through the Spring and Summer seasons.
We accessorized these darling dresses with polkadot tights from UK Tights*, and matching pastel clutch bags from Aspire Style*. Jo’s dandy dachshund necklace, seen above, is from Tatty Devine. He’s so adorable! The matching silver shoes were a completely unplanned coincidence, we just seem to have quite the knack for twinning. Jo’s pumps are from Topshop and my loafers are from Boden.
Hello hello! Welcome back to Double Thumbs Dresses, our roundup of the frocks we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted double thumbs seal of approval! Let’s crack on…
I’ve really been loving River Island lately! They’ve been adding so many dreamy SS16 pieces to their website that I seem to be adding to my wishlist on a daily basis (weirdly I can never find anything in store though). With an abundance of polkadots, organza, floral and lace between them, these two beauts are my current picks of the bunch.
I’m just going to stick my oar in and declare how much I enjoy this new nautical print by Jack Wills. It’s a lovely summery affair with a full skirt and fit and flare shape but, thankfully, I think it would look just as nice with a bright cardigan and some thick woolly tights.
You can’t beat a sweet cherry and this super pretty print from Sugarhill Boutique is a real fruity number. The delicate pinks and greys look gorgeous set against the white of this textured dress.
You might recognise this fun frock from our previous style post (which you should totally read as it includes the chance to win a £50 Aspire Style voucher)! It’s one of my absolute favourites from the new Emily and Fin collection – the print is just perfection! It’s available from Aspire Style and, for our American pals, Modcloth.
This lace shirt dress from Warehouse is the stuff of dreams. Argh it’s SO pretty! I love the shirt detailing at the top with the little collar. And then that lace overlay! Stunning.
Speaking of dreaming….I am probably never going to own this beautiful Needle & Thread dress but gosh darn isn’t it something? It looks like it would have excellent wafting abilities and that fabulous floral peony print with the little lace inserts is just wonderful. Sigh.
