Ahoy there! The lovely folk at Aspire Style have kindly invited us to take part in their latest Blogger Style Challenge. We were given the not-so-arduous task of choosing and styling a dress from their wonderful selection. As massive Emily and Fin fans, we couldn’t resist nabbing a couple of their newest fabulous prints. Aren’t they lovely? As regular readers will know, we do love to match our outfits to the local scenery, so we ventured on down to the colourful harbourside in search of the perfect shooting place.

Boat Trips with Aspire Style | She and Hem | Bristol

We found the ideal location in the form of a cute boat trip office near to the SS. Great Britain. If you’ve ever been to Bristol, you will know that we are BIG on boat trips here. I (Victoria) even incorporated one into my wedding day! To celebrate this, I chose the glorious vintage inspired sailboat print Isobel Dress*, then went a bit potty for pastels with a pink 50’s cardigan from Boden* and matching pink brogues from New Look. Although Spring has officially sprung, it was a little windy around the water, so I accessorised sensibly with white woolly tights from UK Tights. My pink belt is from Primark, although it is no longer available – I’m afraid that ship has sailed.

Jo’s Jenny dress* is covered in such a super synchronised swimmer print that she was getting compliments all day long. We both completely fell in love with the flattering cut of the dress and the contrasting blue buttons. You’ll definitely be seeing us in more of the Jenny cuts, they are so beautiful – we are going to dive right in! Jo teamed her swimmers with a pop of metalic with silver flats from Topshop and vintage silver belt. Her fabulous flamingo cardigan is from Bryony and Co* and her polkadot tights are from…you guessed it, UK Tights. They go swimmingly well together indeed!

Beatrice Sleeves Red Walking Zoo £148 from Bryony & Co

Sunbathers Linen Shift Dress £67.50 from Laura Ashley
Sunbathers Linen Shift Dress £67.50 from Laura Ashley

Hooray for a new fun Laura Ashley print! How delightful are those sunbathers? I really appreciate a a big bold print (what’s the point in a quirky print if everyone has to come right up to you to work out what it is?!) and the colours really make this pop. Keeping my fingers crossed that this super cute swimmers print t-shirt appears in frock form too.

Shirt Dress In Mini Strawberries Print £65 from Lazy Oaf
Shirt Dress In Mini Strawberries Print £65 from Lazy Oaf

You know how much I love a fruity number and this Lazy Oaf strawberry affair is my pick of the bunch (I must have made that joke at least 12 times now). It’s all rather pretty and floaty isn’t it?

Safari Print Dress £55 from Hell Bunny at Aspire Style
Safari Print Dress £55 from Hell Bunny at Aspire Style

Safari, so good! I am loving this vintage inspired zebra print dress from Hell Bunny. The v-neck and little button detailing are both so lovely.

Pleated Hem Shift Dress £39.50 from M&S
Pleated Hem Shift Dress £39.50 from M&S

The fashion bigwigs at M&S were obviously unable to reach a decision whilst debating how best to transform the humble shift dress. ‘Add a bow!’ cried Jimmy, ‘stick a corsage on it!‘ yelled Jenny, ‘incorporate some pleats!‘ chimed in Justin. Personally, I’m a big fan of the result.

Edie Floral Skater £45 from Oasis
Edie Floral Skater £45 from Oasis

If it’s a yellow floral dress with a cute collar, chances are it’s going to make an appearance on Double Thumbs. This Oasis number is crying out to be worn in the spring sunshine! Lovely.

You’ll look pretty sharp in this cactus print dress from the marvelous Emily and Fin, which you can currently pre-order from Aspire Style. Botanical Specimen print dress £48 from Yumi
Botanical Specimen print dress £48 from Yumi at House of Fraser

What a botanical specimen you’ll look in this pretty Yumi dress! I’m not sure I have mushroom for anymore puns but I am a big fan of the casual crotch tortoise. More dresses should feature them.

Floral jacquard dress £85 from Warehouse
Floral jacquard dress £85 from Warehouse

I am in love with this stunning Warehouse prom dress. It’s the most beautiful shape and the floral jacquard print is just swoonworthy. Yellow and grey look set to be big colours this season and with a dress as knockout as this it’s not hard to see why.

Sweetie print dress £75 from ASOS

Sweet dreams are made of this tasty ASOS dress which I can totally think of hundreds and thousands of reasons to buy. Number one being that it’s COVERED IN SWEETS, obviously.

Double Thumbs Dresses #50

Sound the party klaxon! We’ve finally made it to FIFTY Double Thumbs Dresses posts. I completely dread to think how much money I’ve spent in the process of writing them but hey ho a milestone is a milestone! Perhaps we should all buy a nice new frock to celebrate? Seems a reasonable suggestion….. So, without further ado, here’s the 50th roundup of dresses we have deemed worthy of receiving the highly coveted Double Thumbs seal of approval. PARTY KLAXON.

Cowboy Dress £69 (PRE ORDER) by Emily and Fin from Aspire Style
Cowboy Dress £69 (PRE ORDER) by Emily and Fin from Aspire Style
Marble Dress £65 (PRE ORDER) BY Emily and Fin from Aspire Style
Marble Dress £65 (PRE ORDER) BY Emily and Fin from Aspire Style

I blimmin’ love Emily and Fin and practically lassoed my computer when I spotted Aspire Style had added some of the new season collection to their website, which you can pre-order now. There are so many new gorgeous vintage inspired prints that it was hard to narrow it down to just two! I think you’ll agree that the cowboy print is pretty special indeed and I adore the cuteness of those marbles against the dusky pink. Get. In. My. Wardrobe.

Home Farm Cotton Dress £65 from Cath Kidston
Home Farm Cotton Dress £65 from Cath Kidston

E I E I WOAH! Channel your inner Old MacDonald in this farm yard print dress from Cath Kidston, who happily bring new meaning to the term ‘animal print’. It’s a gorgeous cut and not one I believe I’ve seen before from CK. I just love the button detail and apparently it has concealed pockets! Rejoice. You’d be quackers not to moooove quickly with this one….

Polka Dot Chiffon Dress £22 from Forever 21
Polka Dot Chiffon Dress £22 from Forever 21

This is such a lovely 50s inspired number from Forever 21! I adore the mustard colour, the pleats and, of course, the peter pan collar. Delightful! It’s also a bit of a bargain which makes a nice change.

Daisy Print Shirt Dress £55 from Topshop
Daisy Print Shirt Dress £55 from Topshop

It might have something to do with Cara looking all wonderful in it on the Topshop homepage but I have a serious crush on this big daisy print number. I want to embrace the flower power and rock that pussybow neck! I also want to be a supermodel and have fantastic eyebrows. I can only assume this dress will make it happen.

Cherry Dress £54 from Sugarhill Boutique
Cherry Dress £54 from Sugarhill Boutique

My goodness this is a berry nice frock from Sugarhill Boutique. The bright aqua colour is just stunning and looks great set against the cherry print. I am also a big fan of the 50s shape which looks outrageously flattering with those lovely sleeves and cute little collar. One to cherish for sure!

Conversational Print Skater Dress £45 from Marks & Spencer
Conversational Print Skater Dress £45 from Marks & Spencer

FlamingOMG what a top print, which according to M&S is apparently conversational. I wonder what it’s trying to say? You can’t really argue with hundreds of flamingos so it can pretty much say anything it likes. FYI I could only find it in petite sizes on the website so you’ll have to flaming-go and try and find it in-store if that doesn’t suit.

Antartctic Circle Dress £65.80 from Miss Patina
Antartctic Circle Dress £65.80 from Miss Patina

We finish off with this charming dress from Miss Patina. It already looks pretty great from this picture with the lovely shirt detailing underneath a classic silver frock. But, game change, the print on the shirt is actually POLAR BEARS. What a triumph for the eyes.

Putting the Win in Winter: Coats

I don’t know if you’ve noticed but the weather seems to have waved a fond farewell to sunshine and warmth and replaced it with rain, wind and a brisk chill. This is, of course, brilliant news as it means we can all finally justify buying those coats we’ve been stroking in shops since mid August. Marvelous. Here are some of our current favourites…

The Katy Coat £95.00
The Katy Coat £95 from Oasis

First up is this dreamy oversized blazer fit coat from Oasis. I adore the natural colour but if you want to be totally jazzy, it also comes in very bright shades of orange and yellow.

Kelsey Coat £125 from Louche at Joy
Kelsey Coat £125 from Louche at Joy

You won’t get the hump about the cold in this luxurious vintage camel number from Louche. If that faux fur doesn’t get you, the lining will – it’s covered in super cute animals!

Colette Coat £99

Go dotty for this spotty retro Hell Bunny number. Giant buttons and pockets are clearly the way forward.

Stand Collar Swing Coat £19 from Forever 21

Forever 21 appears to be THE place to go for budget friendly winter coats. The above also comes in black and camel but they have a pretty enjoyable selection of plaid too.

Ronnie Coat £125
Ronnie Coat £125 by Louche at John Lewis

I think this gorgeous Louche number might be my current most coveted coat. I adore the pink, which thankfully seems to be still a big trend for 2014, but it also comes in a rather fetching shade of blue.

Check Coat £95
Check Coat £95 from Warehouse

This Warehouse coat is neatly ticking the pink, plaid and pockets boxes. Plus I do love a brushed fabric. It makes up for the fact I don’t own a cat.

Dolly Coat £33 (was £70) from ASOS
Dolly Coat £33 (was £70) from ASOS

I really rate the ASOS Dolly style coats, having bought one this time last year, and so I thought this was a bit of a bargain. I really like the ice blue colour above but, for a £16 extra, it also comes in the bright raspberry.

Frances Coat £110
Frances Coat £110 by Sugarhill Boutique at House of Fraser

If you like this sixties style Sugarhill Boutique number with its lovely fluffy collar and velvet (I think?) detailing then I suggest you step on it as it seems to be rapidly going out of stock.

Iris Dress Coat £129.99 from Fever
Iris Dress Coat £129.99 from Fever

The more I stare at this Fever coat the more convinced I am that we are meant to be together. Beautiful colour, beautiful collar and the perfect coat shape.

Swing Coat with Contrast Faux Fur Collat £85 from ASOS
Swing Coat with Contrast Faux Fur Collat £85 from ASOS

Last but not least is this lovely swing coat from ASOS. I think the swing style is super cute and flattering – plus it would totally hide any extra roast dinners! Good work, fashion. It’s also available in pink.

How unbelievably gorgeous is this dress by Poem at Oliver Bonas? I did a little gasp when it arrived in my inbox. However, when I did have a closer inspection I discovered the prettiest print of pastel houses(!) and cute yachts! It’s all a bit dreamy.

Molly Macaron Smock Dress £55 by Mod Dolly
Molly Macaron Smock Dress £55 by Mod Dolly

Time for some macaron madness courtesy of Mod Dolly! I love this sweet loose fitting smock dress, especially with that gorgeous empire collar. I know I shouldn’t say this in a dress roundup but they also have this print in possibly the best two piece ever. Sorry, dresses.

Dolores Dress Summer Bouquet £65

Organza Floral Prom Dress £85 from ASOS Salon

I’m not sure if I can adequately describe how much I love this ASOS* dress and I’m clearly not alone as it keeps whizzing in and out of stock (at the time of writing it’s currently unavailable but persevere if you’ve got you heart set on it). I want to twirl in it and I want to twirl in it now.

Pink and White Stripe Bandeau Prom Dress £80.00 from River Island
Pink and White Stripe Bandeau Prom Dress £80.00 from River Island

I’m not usually one to fall for a strapless dress but there’s just something so classic and pretty about this River Island* number. I love the large stripes and how the pink and white complement one another. It’s all just a bit dreamy.

Oh my, this is pretty much pink perfection. Will you just look at that bow!? I don’t even care that I don’t have a ball to go to, this F&F* dress shall me mine! They currently appear to have knocked 30% off the £30 pricetag which makes it a total bargain! It would also make a pretty great bridesmaid dress, dontchathink?

Double Thumbs Dresses #29

Hello one and all and welcome back to your weekly (ahem) roundup of the dresses we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted Double Thumbs seal of approval. You might have noticed that we skipped a week last week so, by way of an apology, I have made this one slightly longer. I know, I really do spoil you.

Shirt Dress in Multi £90 from Orla Kiely for People Tree
Shirt Dress in Multi £90 from Orla Kiely for People Tree
Monochrome Tea Dress £110 from Orla Kiely People Tree
Monochrome Tea Dress £110 from Orla Kiely People Tree
Collar Dress in Pink £85 from Orla Kiely for People Tree
Collar Dress in Pink £85 from Orla Kiely for People Tree
Evette Dress in Green Balloon Print £65 from People Tree
Evette Dress in Green Balloon Print £65 from People Tree

Right, so, this is a little unprecedented but first up we have FOUR dresses from the rather brilliant, People Tree. The first three form part of their ongoing collaboration with Orla Kiely, who I know we have been relentlessly banging on about recently but I can’t help it if she keeps bringing the pretty to the party. This new collaboration features three dancing girl silhouette prints and they are all so SO great. I really couldn’t choose just one so I’ve had to go with three but I could easily have chosen more. Yikes. And just when I thought I was safe I spied the balloon print dress and practically combusted at my computer. What the heck, People Tree? Are you deliberately trying to bankrupt me?

Grace Dress in Floats print £148.40

Oh good, more reasons to spend all my money! The new Poppy collection landed this week and as usual it’s perfect. This time they have embraced bright bold colours as their characters, Poppy and Fred, take Mr Giraffe to the seaside. I don’t know what party balloons have got to do with giraffes at the seaside but if the result is always this pretty, I’m on board. No, I’m not drunk. Continue reading Double Thumbs Dresses #29

Double Thumbs Dresses #28

Merry Friday, happy Valentine’s Day and a glorious London Fashion Week to one and all! And if that wasn’t excitement enough it’s also DT time! Woohoo! So without further ado, here is this week’s roundup of dresses deemed worthy of the highly coveted She and Hem Double Thumbs seal of approval. Snazzy.

Ice Cream Dress by Emily & Fin
Ice Cream Dress by Emily & Fin

Break out your sundae best, this heart meltingly beautiful dress is part of Emily & Fin’s Spring/Summer collection. It’s actually a bit of a naughty Double Thumbs entry as it won’t be out until the first week of April. BUT I JUST CAN’T WAIT THAT LONG. At least we’ll all have plenty of time to save up, eh? The print comes in a choice of two styles which I’m assured will both be available from Aspire Style. Don’t worry, I’ll remind you when the time comes. In the meantime, just feast your eyes.

Duckie Dress £55 from Sugarhill Boutique

Another week, another brilliant dress from Sugarill Boutique. I just love all of their prints and these cute little ducks are no exception. It’s also nice to see a tulip shape as I can’t say I own much in this style. I wasn’t sure about the black lace side panels at first but I’ve decided now that I love them. Also: great sleeve.

Buy Almari Multi Print Band Skater Dress, Multi, 8 Online at johnlewis.com
Multi Print Band Skater Dress £65 by Almari from John Lewis

I’m becoming a big fan of Almari (available from John Lewis). They have some really interesting prints and shapes going on. I love the wintery floral pattern on this one and, as I own an Almari dress in this shape, I can vouch for how awesome the full skirt is.

Double Thumbs Dresses #24

Oh hello Friday night, where have you been all week? What better way to celebrate the arrival of the weekend than with a cursory glance at this week’s round-up of dresses deemed worthy of the highly coveted Double Thumbs seal of approval? Perhaps accompanied by a big glass of wine. Treat yourself!

Bike Stripe Smock Dress £50 from Sugarhill Boutique

Perpetual She and Hem favourites, Sugarhill Boutique, have come up trumps once again with this beautiful illustrated bike print dress. The smock style should flatter all frames! In fact, you might say they’ve wheelie hit the nail on the head with this bespoke frock. (I think I’ve actually used that bespoke joke before but when you’re on a roll, you’re on a roll)

In the Key of Chic Dress in Tea Time, #ModCloth
In the Key of Chic Dress in Tea Time $124.99 by Bea and Dot from Modcloth

This Modcloth dress is covered in tea bags. I repeat. THIS MODCLOTH DRESS IS COVERED IN TEA BAGS. I’ll admit that from here they look a bit like luggage tags but I assure you, on closer inspection, it contains some pre-tea great illustrations. Sadly, your tea will need to be rich in order to bag this beauty as it doesn’t come cheap at $124.99. Modcloth are currently offering free international shipping when you spend $150 though, if that makes things more tempting.

Cath Kidston Grove Rose Dress with Collar
Grove Rose Dress with Collar £70 from Cath Kidston

I warned you last week that the Cath Kidston SS14 pieces were set to take over Double Thumbs and I am nothing if not a woman of my word. This week features this gorgeous floral relaxed fit dress, which also has pockets! Wondrous.

Heart Dress £39 by Kimberley for Very

Well hey there Kimberley! As a fan of Girls Aloud (and proud!), I was pretty excited about Kimber’s foray into fashion and I have not been left disappointed. I love this long sleeved heart print dress. The colours are fab and the little white heart detailing helps make this print stand out from the crowd. You can grab the full range from Very!
