Double Thumbs Dresses #62

Hello dress fans! It’s time once again to take a gander at the frocks we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted Double Thumbs seal of approval! There’s plenty of new A/W arrivals happening at the moment so I have been slightly spoiled for choice! Frock on…

Cookie dress £65 from Lazy Oaf
Cookie dress £65 from Lazy Oaf

This Lazy Oaf dress is simply ridiculous. Whoever decided to put cartoon cookies, cola, peanut butter jelly and, wait, is that a watermelon? on a bright blue dress is my new hero. Just imagine rocking up to basically anything in this dress! You’d look pretty darn cool. Best print ever.

Chic Full Skirted Dress in Multi London Town £129 from Boden
Chic Full Skirted Dress in Multi London Town £129 from Boden

I really do have to take a deep breath before I visit the Boden website as I know I am going to want EVERYTHING and usually end up having a tab opening frenzy as I weep uncontrollably about how pretty it all is. Don’t even get me started on their new party frocks! But that’s enough about my private browsing, as among the new arrivals I spied this delightful new London print which is right up my street with its pretty houses, lampposts and bicycles all set against a gorgeous colour pallet of greys, yellows and pinks. I need.

Cat dress £119 from Rachel Riley

This a-meow-zing dress from not Countdown’s Rachel Riley is the perfect combination of a delightful 50s shape (always a big fan of a matching belt too) and a super fun print. I really like the tan colour too which I can see looking rather lovely with blonde hair. Convenient that…

Love Cat Dress in Dogtooth £75.80 from Miss Patina
Love Cat Dress in Dogtooth £75.80 from Miss Patina

Well that’s a flippin’ excellent cat collar isn’t it? Miss Patina really do know how to make my bank balance fearful and their latest feline filled collection hasn’t helped in the slightest! This dress offers the best of both worlds for pet lovers everywhere with it’s combination of cat and dog(tooth)! Purrrfect! This one truly has me hot under the cat collar.

Swans Shirt Dress £55 from Cath Kidston
Swans Shirt Dress £55 from Cath Kidston

I’m going to stick my neck out here and say that this is my favourite of the new Cath Kidston prints! I love love love those gorgeous swans and I am excited to try out the new shirt dress style. I managed to miss out on the penguin dress earlier in the season so I will be snapping this one up quick sharp!

Lace Trim Long Sleeve Dress £35 from F&F
Lace Trim Long Sleeve Dress £35 from F&F

Yep, you read that right! This beautiful mustard frock is indeed from Tesco! It’s sheer perfection in every way from the colour to the vintage shape and holy moly can we discuss those sleeves? See you all in aisle seventies.

Abigail Hot Air Balloon Tunic Dress £48 from Sugarhill Boutique at House of Fraser
Abigail Hot Air Balloon Tunic Dress £48 from Sugarhill Boutique at House of Fraser

This balloon print dress from Sugarhill Boutique at House of Fraser was obviously going to catch my eye due to that fabulous print! I do love any opportunity to wear a fiesta and those balloons are particularly pretty. I’m also really loving the ease of wearing tunics at the moment as they are so fab for layering and now that it’s getting colder (brrr) I’ll soon be cracking out the chunky tights and knitwear.

Long Sleeve Babydoll Frill Dress £45 from Marks and Spencer
Long Sleeve Babydoll Frill Dress £45 from Marks and Spencer

Last but not least we have this beautiful pink babydoll dress from my loves, M&S. I find you can’t go wrong with a good ruffle or two and that neck is pretty special isn’t it? The blush colour is such a gorgeous shade and, well, do I even need to mention my love for those sleeves?

Until next time!

Hem and Away: Manchester & Knutsford

This weekend the boy and I ventured North in order to see The Postal Service at Manchester Academy. I decided this was the perfect opportunity to break out my beloved Nishe hot air balloon dress from ASOS. I don’t really need much encouragement as it’s so much fun and I absolutely love wearing it.  There was no attempt at blending into the crowd for me as I teamed it with a bright yellow cardigan from Gap, spotty tights from M&S and my new Topshop shoes (yes I know, who wears new white shoes to a gig? I’m an idiot).

On the Sunday we went to Knutsford for a family roast dinner. We were slightly early so decided to take this opportunity to have a little explore. Little did we know that we were about to discover the holy grail for penny-farthing enthusiasts in the form of The Courtyard Coffee House and Restaurant, also known as the home of the largest collection of penny-farthings. How could we resist such an opportunity? We didn’t have much time left but decided to take a seat in the courtyard and order a hot drink. It was very difficult to abstain from eating the many delicious cakes on offer but we knew our hosts wouldn’t be thrilled if we turned up with no appetite left!

It was a jolly great and unexpected way to spend our Sunday morning! It was such a charming place and I absolutely cannot wait to go back and try out the menu properly. I wore my umbrella print blouse from Ever Ours and my jeans are from Topshop.

Roll on the Bank Holiday weekend!

Double Thumbs Dresses #1

Double Thumbs
Two thumbs up to Victoria who is off to Croatia for two weeks tomorrow to do some good quality nursing. Good luck V! x

Here is our weekly round up of all the lovely dresses we have spotted that receive the much coveted She and Hem Double Thumbs Up seal of approval.

Printed Cotton Shirt Dress – Sailboat Grey £145 from Lowie

First up is this rather fetching find from Lowie. This dress ticks a lot of boxes! It has proper sleeves, a fabulous collar, it’s nipped in nicely at the waist and has an exciting boat print. I really love the colours too.

Martha’s Air of Adorable dress from Modcloth

After Monday’s post about hot air balloons the lovely @HangingwithHawlie tweeted us this little beauty from Modcloth. The balloons are SMILING AT US! It’s ridiculous and I need it. It’s yours (and mine) for $74.99/£49ish.

Bass Pandemonium Dress from Modcloth

Who says we like a novelty print huh? Check out this fish print dress also from Modcloth. What fabulous fish! You’ll be reeling in the compliments with this one. And it has pockets! I strongly believe all dresses should be required to have pockets. You can hook yourself this beauty for $79.99/£52ish.

Sicilian Knight Dress £55 from Oasis
Toby Sicilian Skater Dress £70 from Oasis

It appears to be that time of year again when Oasis just go completely crazy with the pretty dresses. I actually can’t bring myself to go on their website at the moment for fear of buying everything.  The Sicilian inspired collection is particularly swoon worthy with the two dresses above currently at the top of my wish list. I find that Oasis are usually very good at running 20% off promotions so I will be keeping a close eye on my inbox.

50s Prom Dress from Miss Selfridge

Now take a look at how pretty this Miss Selfridge dress with its full skirt and big bow. I can just imagine feeling  like a big pastel princess in it, swooshing around at a party.  My only concern is the back of the dress which looks very low and call me old fashioned but I’m quite attached to my underwear. The idea of having to go without or faff around with some new-fangled modesty covering device makes me a little uneasy about splashing out £49. Those swooshing dreams might have to hold on for now.

Colourful House Print Dress £45 from Yumi

Last but not least is this super colourful house print dress from Yumi. It’s so cheerful and fun! It could be dressed up or down and although it’s perfect for the summer, I think you could get away with teaming it with tights and a cardigan later in the year.

Now, where did I put my bank card?

Up up and away…

One of the best things about living in Bristol is sitting back on a sunny evening and watching the hot air balloons float up over the skyline. It’s no surprise then that I am drawn to anything and everything that has balloons on it! Thankfully for me the high-street is currently full of lovely balloon prints for me to indulge in.

First up is this delightful dress from Sugarhill Boutique. Look how pretty and floaty it is! I can just see myself swanning around in this frock on nice summers day, ice cream in hand. Sadly at £58 it’s just a little bit too expensive but the current bank holiday 20% off offer they are running is making a purchase seem sadly inevitable. Fans of big girls blouses will be pleased to hear that Sugarhill boutique all have this print in blouse form. Marvellous.

It has to be said that I am not a huge Dorothy Perkins fan.  In fact the last time I ventured into store was over a year ago to buy, wouldn’t you know it, a rather spectacular balloon print top! but hey, what’s this? they appear to have excelled themselves once again in the old balloon top department and have succeeded in tempting me back in with this little number. It has a super cute peter pan collar and looks smart enough to be worn to work! Winner. It’s £25 which does seem a little steep so lets all cross our fingers for a DP sale.

Sometimes a girl just needs to buy herself a new novelty ring, right? and I can’t think of many things better to wear on my hand than a giant blue balloon. I think we can all agree that at £6 you could do a lot worse than invest in this gorgeous Louche ring available at Joy.

Holy moly there aren’t enough words for me to describe how much I love this dress. The colour! The print! THAT COLLAR. It’s a total dream of a dress and I have to admit that I bought it the moment I set eyes on it. Deep breaths everyone for at £70 from ASOS this is a bit of a balance breaker but Nishe have so many lovely dresses coming out at the moment that even if you miss out on this one another suitably divine dress will no doubt be on the horizon.

Hey look! This obsession doesn’t even have to limit itself to clothes! Check out these side plates from IKEA. At £3 each they are a bit of a bargain and I always love an excuse to go and claim a free cup of tea of an evening. My only complaint is why just the side plates IKEA? Someone needs to pull their socks up and give me dinner plates, cups and saucers and a maybe a nice vase. Is that too much to ask for?

Until next time!
