Sunlounger Stripes and Perfect Plaid | Emily and Fin

She and Hem and Emily and Fin go way back. We are super friends. We first featured them FIVE YEARS AGO in 2014 in a Double Thumbs Dresses post! Shortly after that we collaborated on our first style post together, Emily and Fin for the win. Anyway, enough reminiscing. Time for some old fashioned fan girl-ing. Emily and Fin’s New In section is absolutely knocking it out of the park at the moment. We honestly love it ALL, but here are our colouful favourites!

I (Victoria) am picking lemons wearing the Zoe Sunlounger Stripe Dress*. One of my favourite things about this dress is the incredible V-shaped back The buttons running all the way down is a really beautiful and unique touch. It also comes in several other patterns, such as the ‘Sunbleached Tencel‘. I’ve actually got one of these, and think it’s the epitome of laidback glam. Jo wears the Kate Sunset Plaid Shirt Dress* and this print is our outright favourite. Bright colours, fun pattern. Simple brilliance. However, if plaid isn’t your thing, you’re in luck. Like the Kate dress, the Zoe also comes in a few different patterns.

We can’t wait to see what Emily and Fin have got up their (immaculately designed) sleeves ready for next season that we can add to our ever growing collections. If you’d like to check out how we’ve styled several Emily and Fin dresses over the past five years, you can find all the archives here.

As it’s Wimbledon time once again, we thought we’d go and cause a right old racket in the woods and serve you up some trendy tennis realness. If you are a hawk eyed reader, you may have seen these fabulous frocks on the blog before. While my (Victoria) little green number* from Emily and Fin is sadly no longer available, you can find Jo’s 1950’s inspired beauty* here, from our friends at Carousel. Strawberries and Pimms all round!

Minimal accessories looked a solid ten out of ten-is for these looks. My yellow sandals are from M&S (they are so comfortable that I have them in three colours) and my panama hat* is from Laura Ashley. It actually first featured on the blog in 2015. So much has changed around here since then, but I’m still loving that hat! Those awesome square ombre sunglasses* are an ace from She and Hem favs Joanie and have recently been reduced to £5! Finally, Jo’s super fun pencil shoes* are from Cath Kidston and her glasses were a gift. Groovy moves and sassy poses all her own.

Double Thumbs Dresses #90

Hello hello! Welcome back to Double Thumbs Dresses, our roundup of the frocks we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted double thumbs seal of approval! Remember back in February when I said I was ready to start writing these posts again after having baby? Yeah, sorry about that – turns out having a baby is quite time consuming. What I have found time for, however, is online shopping and over the past couple of months (mostly at 3am) I’ve been saving all the frocks that have caught my eye meaning I’ve accumulated somewhat of a bumper crop. So, here they are all! ENJOY.

Festive Prints with Emily and Fin

Festive Prints with Emily and FinFestive Prints with Emily and FinFestive Prints with Emily and FinFestive Prints with Emily and FinFestive Prints with Emily and FinDing Dong Merrily on High! The festive season is truly well upon us and, here at She and Hem, we strongly believe Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a novelty print or two to swan around in! Thankfully for us, we’ve teamed up once again with our faves Emily and Fin to style a couple of their seasonal showstoppers! Merry Christmas indeed!

Victoria is wearing the totally gorgeous Swiss Chalets Print* which features a sumptuous ski scene set in the mountains of Switzerland. The perfect retro winter wonderland! It looks super cute and the lovely blue and green shades really make it pop. The dress is available in two styles, with Victoria opting for the sleeveless ‘Penny’ which has a flattering fitted bodice and semi-full mid-calf length skirt. She teamed it with as many glittery accessories as possible, including a gold belt from Dorothy Perkins, sparkly polka dot tights from Topshop and glittery black pom pom pumps from Kaleidoscope*. Not a salopette in sight!

I had been eyeing up the beautiful Ornamental Lights Print* since I first spied it back in the Summer! I knew it was going to be the perfect Christmas print and oh boy was it worth the wait! Who doesn’t want to be festooned with festoon lights during the festive period?! It’s such a fabulous print and the colours of those delightfully decorative lights really work nicely against the cool grey colour of the dress. Again, this dress is available in two different styles (plus a top and some incredible pyjamas!) with this being the ‘Lucy’. I always love the ‘Lucy’ shape as the A-line shape is just so easy to wear and lends itself nicely to twirling. I styled my dress with some super duper shimmery tights from UKTights* and some gold flats from ASOS (similar here)

I should also add that we both sized up at least once for these dresses as we are now, drum roll please, 38 and 32 weeks pregnant! Can you believe it? I think these frocks do quite the excellent job of disguising the massive bumps! If you’re not epicly pregnant then these dresses do run true to size.

Loving your work as always, Emily and Fin!

The retro collar is just puuurrrfect and I love the blue and white combo. The only bone I’ve got to pick is how I’m going to afford both!

Flying High with Emily and Fin

She and Hem | Flying High with Emily and Fin She and Hem | Flying High with Emily and Fin She and Hem | Flying High with Emily and FinShe and Hem | Flying High with Emily and Fin

It’s no big secret how much we love Emily and Fin. We get excited about every new collection and love seeing what new fun prints they’ve come out with. Their Autumn/Winter collection sees a bevvy of berry shades and navy niceties with their signature prints and shapes to match. Marvellous!

Once it had safely landed on the website, we were both instantly taken with the Come Fly With Me print which features a fleet of aeroplanes ready to take our wardrobe to new heights! Victoria was actually even able to name the planes (a Douglas DC-6, Douglas DC-3 and a Ford Trimotor apparently) a fact I’m not sure I’ve come to terms with just yet – impressive! We decided to fasten our seat-belts and jetted off to our local park where, sadly, there wasn’t a complimentary bag of peanuts in sight. Despite this, we made ourselves a runway and declared these outfits ready for take off! And yes, we are pretending to be planes in that photo. What of it?

She and Hem | Flying High with Emily and Fin She and Hem | Flying High with Emily and FinShe and Hem | Flying High with Emily and FinShe and Hem | Flying High with Emily and FinShe and Hem | Flying High with Emily and Fin

My Claudia dress* is classic Emily and Fin. I always love this shape as it’s nicely fitted and the capped raglan sleeves make me so happy. The full skirt is anything but plane (sorry) and has small box pleats which make it super flattering and perfect for twirling about in!  Also, it has pockets (for any complimentary peanuts that may come your way) which we all know is the key to my heart. Victoria, in her jazzy trousers and shirt combo, has truly stepped out of our Emily and Fin comfort zone! Fortunately, I’m pleased to report she hasn’t hit any fashion turbulence and looks fabulous! Her slim-fitting cropped Jamie Trousers* make for a pleasant departure (who doesn’t love a novelty print trouser?) from our usual frocks and they look (in my opinion) really rather high fashion when teamed with the Dreamy Deco Floral print  in the Lara Shirt*. It’s such a fab retro print and is available in dress form too.

Anyone for Tennis?

She and Hem | Anyone for Tennis? | Emily and Fin She and Hem | Anyone for Tennis? | Emily and FinShe and Hem | Anyone for Tennis? | Emily and FinShe and Hem | Anyone for Tennis? | Emily and FinShe and Hem | Anyone for Tennis? | Emily and Fin

We’ve been making such a racket about Emily and Fin’s sports collection for SO LONG. Seriously, we were lucky enough to have a sneaky peek last year, which you can watch in this vlog, and we’ve been desperate to get our hands on the collection ever since! Our favourites are the green Anyone for Tennis?* dress in the Lucy style and the red Abigail style Serve it Up* dress. There’s Novak denying, they are both incredible prints.

We really wanted to do the dresses justice, so we embraced our inner Venus and Serena, purchased some vintage tennis rackets (like you do) and wandered down to our local tennis club. In true She and Hem style, it turned out to be shut, so we got our tennis elbows out and had an impromptu game, and a lie down, in the park instead! Probably not what Sharapova gets up to in her spare time (and she’s got a lot of spare time), but we had lots of fun. Party at the net!

She and Hem | Anyone for Tennis? | Emily and FinShe and Hem | Anyone for Tennis? | Emily and FinShe and Hem | Anyone for Tennis? | Emily and Fin

In addition to our vintage rackets and yellow balls, we accessorised these fun dresses with a very game set of matching trainers from Superga* in Dusty Rose and Turquoise. Our super colourful textured jumpers seen above are from Louche at Joy*. You’ll definitely be seeing these outfits pop up in a little over two weeks for the start of Wimbledon. Come on Tim!

Summer Smiles with Aspire Style

Any regular readers will know how much we love Emily and Fin, so when the lovely ladies at Aspire Style asked us if we wanted to feature their new Summer range, we jumped at the chance! Not only that but they have very kindly offered us and our readers a wonderful 10% discount for the site, using code SHEANDHEM at the checkout. Apologies to your bank balance in advance!

If you want to try before you buy (and are local to Warwick, Stratford upon Avon, Oxford, Solihull or Coventry) we would definitely recommend popping into an Aspire Style store, which is what we did when we had a lovely city break away in Oxford! They have so much great stuff, we promise you won’t be disappointed!

You can’t walk five minutes down the road in Bristol without finding an incredible mural or brightly coloured door, but we were particularly taken with this beach hut inspired green and white garage door.  So much so that we heaped praise onto the owner when he popped out of his house to jump into his car. He was rather chuffed! We hope you’ll agree that it was the perfect match for our Seaside* and Cornish Harbour* print dresses. The Cornish Harbour print is so gorgeous and we love the Seaside print so much that we now both own it! Can we also quickly mention how much we appreciate that all Emily and Fin dresses have pockets! It’s an absolute winner.

I (Victoria) wore the Seaside dress, which features a brilliant beach scene complete with sunbathing ladies, in the Lucy shape. This shape is so flattering, comfortable and easy to wear. I accessorised with pink brogues from New Look (similar available here), matching pink sunglasses from Boden* and clear tights from UK Tights*. My vintage radio bag is from Accessorize, although unfortunately it’s currently out of stock online. Jo decided to pick up the lovely shades of pink and blue in her colourful Cornish harbour and accessorised with pink sunglasses from Amazon, an ice cream bag from Skinny Dip (also out of stock but they always have winning novelty bags so don’t be too glum), a pink Boden belt* and baby blue brogues from M&S (similar available here). Not quite ready to brave a bare leg, white tights from UK Tights* were the order of the day.

Double Thumbs Dresses #78

Hello hello! Welcome back to Double Thumbs Dresses, our roundup of the frocks we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted double thumbs seal of approval! Let’s crack on….

Double Thumbs Dresses #78 | Deckchair Print Dress £65 by Emily and Fin at Aspire Style
Deckchair Print Dress £65 by Emily and Fin at Aspire Style

I think you all know how much we love Emily and Fin by now (a quick glance at their website will reveal we even have our own edit right now) so it’s no surprise to see them sitting pretty in the top spot this week. This divine deckchair print is oh so summery and I love the colour! So pretty! I’ve really been favouring their Scarlett shape (which you can find on Aspire Style) recently with the lovely button down detail, I find it really flattering and easy to wear. American readers (or those who just hate buttons) can find the same print in the Claudia shape over on Modcloth.

Double Thumbs Dresses #78 | 'Bernice' Paris Border Swing Dress £45 from Lindy Bop
‘Bernice’ Paris Border Swing Dress £45 from Lindy Bop

Lovely Lindy Bop have also been adding fab new prints, like my bank account stands a chance of coping. I don’t know what it is with me and ‘swimmer’ prints recently but I seem to be spotting them left right and centre – clearly SS16s unsung trend. I’m loving them though so keep them coming! I’m also seriously swooning over that Parisian border. What an Eiffel!

Double Thumbs Dresses #78 | Apples and Pears Cotton Pleat Front Dress £75 from Cath Kidston
Apples and Pears Cotton Pleat Front Dress £75 from Cath Kidston

We always love a fruity number from Cath Kidston and this apples and pears number is no exception. How lovely are those yellows and reds together? It makes me feel all nostalgic as I’m sure I had a similar print dress when I was a child. I really like the look of this new shape too, with a sweet cotton pleat-front style.

Double Thumbs Dresses #78 | Floral Smocked Shift Dress £39.50 from Marks and Spencer
Floral Smocked Shift Dress £39.50 from Marks and Spencer

I am totally obsessed with this floral print from Marks and Spencer! I think the pops of yellow and blue along with that delightful lace waistband really make this dress stand out. Loving the long sleeves too! It’s just a bit pretty isn’t it?

Double Thumbs Dresses #78 | Hartley Beach Scene Cotton Dress £49 from Sugarhill Boutique at John Lewis
Hartley Beach Scene Cotton Dress £49 from Sugarhill Boutique at John Lewis

An excellent novelty print from Sugarhill Boutique who have come over all seaside chic with this deckchair and seagull festooned frock. There are even some cheeky beach huts to be found! So adorable.

Double Thumbs Dresses #78 | Ombre Ditsy Skater Dress £55 from Oasis
Ombre Ditsy Skater Dress £55 from Oasis

Last but not least we have this beautiful ombre floral affair from Oasis. I really love the sweet high neckline and the pleats are fab too. The print is really rather special and I am seriously swooning over the ombre detailing. It’s absolutely stunning.
