Ever wanted to see us fight over a bunch of red roses? It’s your lucky day! It’s finally February and now officially acceptable to start dressing in all things Valentine related. Yippee! Break out your hearts, roses and stupid cupid accessories -it’s time to get soppy guys. These new Valentine’s dresses from Emily and Fin will be more than just a February fling! Thanks to their fab prints, summer appropriate cuts and pockets (for all your love letters), we will be sporting these all year round! It’s true love.
If you hadn’t noticed, it’s flippin’ freezing (brrrr) at the moment but thankfully both the Scarlett Heart* and Bed of Roses* lend themselves to being paired with winter warmers. Victoria has teamed her ravishing red frock with a black cardigan from M&S, a black belt, polka-dot tights from UKTights* and black flats from F&F. I (Jo) have also embraced all things black (to match my heart – jokes) by layering my rosy number over a sparkly black thermal top from M&S, a black belt, tights from M&S and Topshop pumps. My glittery heart bag is from good ol’ Primark. The roses were a gift from a passing handsome stranger*
What are your plans for V-day?
*Not really. We bought them ourselves (sob).
This post was written in collaboration with Emily and Fin. Who we love all year round.
Hello hello! Welcome back to Double Thumbs Dresses! It’s time once again for our frocktacular roundup of the dresses deemed worthy of the highly coveted Double Thumbs seal of approval….
How much do I love thee? Let me count the ways! This Topshop heart print shirtdress is simply vintage valentine perfection! It’s just SO cute which is probably why everyone has been snapping it up since it appeared online late last week. Curses! It’s worth checking though as they do keep adding more stock. The print is also available in a just-as-popular shirt.
But, hey, who needs hearts when you can stripe a pose in this little Topshop number instead? Apparently this print is ‘conversational’, a description that never fails to make me laugh, but I’ll gladly discuss those delectable stripes, the neatly cinched in waist and cute little button up detail with anyone who will listen.
There’s so much I love about this Chicwish dress that I’m not entirely sure where to start! The colour and cross/plaid combo print are pretty magnificent and that whopper of a belt is just everything to me right now. Also, sleeves. I’m all about those long sleeves. It’s really rather cold at the moment, if you hadn’t noticed.
Atteeeeentttttion! It’s time to quick march yourself to the Cath Kidston website to grab one of these incredible soldier print dresses! What a print and, not that I’m planning ahead or anything, but the potential perfect dress to wear to the Queen’s 90th birthday party. Assuming I get invited of course.
Yes Tesco! I am digging this retro floral frock. Who doesn’t love a good bell sleeve? and the shift shape with that dreamy print is ticking all the right boxes. Oh and did I mention it’s only eighteen pounds? BARGAIN.
So you might need some extra cash floating around for this Paul & Joe Sister affair (and if you’ve got extra cash at this stage in January then you are a better person that I) but, my goodness, it’s only flippin’ covered in cats. Meow! I adore the grey and the pink against the cream, you might even say I’m lapping it up.
Chi Chi really are the Queens of the occasion frock at the moment and this big ol’ floral number is just the latest in a long line of hits. I love the brown with the gorgeous red tones of the flowers, I think it’s just perfect for this time of year. You could dress this one up but it would look equally fab with thick white tights and brown boots.
Last but not least we have this Dutch delight from Motel. The button up high neck with alllll that detail down the front is just great. I’m also, as is no doubt totally predictable by now, wildly into those long cuffed sleeves! Do be prepared to get your pins out though, this one looks short!
Hello dress fans! It’s time once again to take a gander at the frocks we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted Double Thumbs seal of approval! There’s plenty of new A/W arrivals happening at the moment so I have been slightly spoiled for choice! Frock on…
This Lazy Oaf dress is simply ridiculous. Whoever decided to put cartoon cookies, cola, peanut butter jelly and, wait, is that a watermelon? on a bright blue dress is my new hero. Just imagine rocking up to basically anything in this dress! You’d look pretty darn cool. Best print ever.
I really do have to take a deep breath before I visit the Boden website as I know I am going to want EVERYTHING and usually end up having a tab opening frenzy as I weep uncontrollably about how pretty it all is. Don’t even get me started on their new party frocks! But that’s enough about my private browsing, as among the new arrivals I spied this delightful new London print which is right up my street with its pretty houses, lampposts and bicycles all set against a gorgeous colour pallet of greys, yellows and pinks. I need.
This a-meow-zing dress from not Countdown’s Rachel Riley is the perfect combination of a delightful 50s shape (always a big fan of a matching belt too) and a super fun print. I really like the tan colour too which I can see looking rather lovely with blonde hair. Convenient that…
Well that’s a flippin’ excellent cat collar isn’t it? Miss Patina really do know how to make my bank balance fearful and their latest feline filled collection hasn’t helped in the slightest! This dress offers the best of both worlds for pet lovers everywhere with it’s combination of cat and dog(tooth)! Purrrfect! This one truly has me hot under the cat collar.
I’m going to stick my neck out here and say that this is my favourite of the new Cath Kidston prints! I love love love those gorgeous swans and I am excited to try out the new shirt dress style. I managed to miss out on the penguin dress earlier in the season so I will be snapping this one up quick sharp!
Yep, you read that right! This beautiful mustard frock is indeed from Tesco! It’s sheer perfection in every way from the colour to the vintage shape and holy moly can we discuss those sleeves? See you all in aisle seventies.
This balloon print dress from Sugarhill Boutique at House of Fraser was obviously going to catch my eye due to that fabulous print! I do love any opportunity to wear a fiesta and those balloons are particularly pretty. I’m also really loving the ease of wearing tunics at the moment as they are so fab for layering and now that it’s getting colder (brrr) I’ll soon be cracking out the chunky tights and knitwear.
Last but not least we have this beautiful pink babydoll dress from my loves, M&S. I find you can’t go wrong with a good ruffle or two and that neck is pretty special isn’t it? The blush colour is such a gorgeous shade and, well, do I even need to mention my love for those sleeves?
Well hello there and welcome back to Double Thumbs Dresses! Just when you thought I’d forgotten about you, eh? As Cher Horowitz would say, AS IF! I am back with a new roundup of the dresses we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted Double Thumbs seal of approval…..
We begin with this bit of retro gorgeousness courtesy of the wonderful Boden, who continue to knock it out of the park season after season! That massive floral print is bloomin’ marvelous and who doesn’t love a cheeky little shift now and again?
Oh blimey, you should all know by now that the way to my clothes-loving heart is with a hot air balloon so naturally I was all over this Oliver Bonas frock when I spotted it in store! As well as the balloons this dress features adorable hand drawn images of famous landmarks from London, Paris and Pisa. It’s so pretty and perfect for Summer.
I love love love the colours of this chic little Warehouse dress! It’s just so darn bright and the 70s style and print are totally fab! I usually worry about a high neck but actually I think this dress would be super flattering.
This ship shape dress from Cutie (available from New Look and Modcloth) is really floating my boat! The tugboat illustrations are just lovely and make this simple dress so delightfully playful.
I wasn’t initially sure about the whole denim dress trend but thanks to seeing a lot of other bloggers looks fabulous in them I now find myself coveting this little beauty from Marks and Spencer. It just looks so nice! and so easy to wear! and I want one!
The new in section of F&F is a triumph at the moment, it really is. They’ve gone a bit 60s & 70s inspired dresses crazy and I for one am LOVING IT. This poppy print shirt dress is my pick of the bunch thanks to those dreamy sleeves.
I’ve also really been loving River Island of late and this neat little paisley print shirt dress is a fine example of why. The colours are just dreamy with the yellows, pinks, and browns all complimenting each other perfectly. Worn with the collar open and the sleeves rolled up, you my friend would be hot to trot.
Wimbledon might be over but surely strawberries and cream never truly goes out of style! I think this fruity number from Oasis looks good enough to eat and I am eyeing up ready for my sunny summer holiday next month!
Hello dress fans! I’ve been a bit Caroline Slack with the old Double Thumbs of late but I couldn’t let Christmas go by without digging them out for a bit of festive fun. So, without further ado, I present to you the seasonal numbers that we consider worthy of the highly coveted Double Thumbs seal of approval. No turkeys here!
I don’t think it’s possible to find a more Christmas appropriate dress than this red organza frock from ASOS. It’s ho ho oh so shiny and if that one bow on the front isn’t jingling your bells then there are THREE more on the back. OF COURSE THERE ARE! Pass the mulled wine over because I am DONE.
Perhaps a slightly more sensible seasonal option might be this darling floral jacquard dress from Topshop. It’s a lovely print and shape and we all know I am a sucker for a good collar.
This lovely floaty number is from Jack Wills who, despite being kept busy outfitting every student in Bristol, always seem to have a great range of party dresses! I really like how this one could easily be dressed up or down and the chiffon detailing is super pretty.
New Look have got it wrapped up this season and this gorgeous embellished skater dress is the glacé cherry on top the Christmas cake! What a gem.
Now THAT is a cracker of a collar. This Zara dress is ticking all of the yuletide boxes with its festive colour, full skirt and pleasing pricetag. I also enjoy how their model has taken up my usual party stance. Perhaps she is hiding a big bow under there? We can dream.
You’d have to be a real cotton-headed ninnymuggins not to love this full on glittery dress from Warehouse. You might need to watch the video over on their website to get the true dazzling effect but goodness me what a frock!
You’ll be easy to spot on the dance floor in this polka-dot print prom dress from Pepperberry (easy for you to say). This is such a great shape and those metallic blue spots are excellent!
Yep, you’ve not been on the brandy butter, this sequin showstopper of a dress is actually from Tesco! With mesh sleeves and all over sparkle, this one would see you dancing right into the New Year.
Chanel your inner princess in this super pretty sage chiffon dress from Lindy Bop. I just want to twirl around in it! Is that really so much to ask?
Last but not least, this woven fabric Chi Chi London dress from ASOS is a bit of a stunner isn’t it? The neckline is especially pretty and that blue is the perfect winter hue. It’s also available in pink (with a longer sleeve) for a few pounds extra.
Hello! It’s Double Thumbs time again! Your round up of the dresses we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted She and Hem Double Thumbs seal of approval. Let’s get cracking.
Beep beep! The top spot this week has got to go to this ridiculously great London Buses print from the ever wonderful Cath Kidston! Will they ever bring out a bad print? We are off to their A/W press day on Thursday and I can only imagine the level of fan-girling that’s going to happen.
I am loving all the fruity prints on the high-street at the moment but, as a fan of all things yellow, the lemon has to be my favourite. This lovely summer dress by Louche is available from Joy, who are opening up in Bristol this week! Be warned, bank balance. Be warned.
Victoria and I popped into Monsoon last week and spent a good while cooing over their Fusion range. This vintage inspired floral print dress was a clear favourite! The pattern and shape are so pretty!
How adorable is this organza dress from Chicwish? It’s so cute! I love all of the embroidery detailing and the colours are just perfect.
This 60s style Motel dress is a bit of a winner in my eyes! Heck, anything which features the description ‘citrus waffle’ is always going to grab my attention. I am also always a sucker for a peter pan collar. Dreamy! Oh and FYI, you can get 20% off at Motel using the code ‘sheandhem’. You are welcome.
Bargain of the week comes in the style of this marvelous neon pink gingham dress from F&F! A tenner! It’s a great loose jersey fit, so perfect for those glorious summer BBQs…. I’ll take three!
Last but not least is this fabulous frock from Oliver Bonas. The floral print is simply stunning and the lightweight fabric, slightly flared skirt and short sleeves make it a perfect go to summer dress.
Hello and welcome to our roundup of the dresses deemed worthy of the highly coveted She and Hem Double Thumbs seal of approval. As promised, this week we have an all singing, all dancing double Double Thumbs with this second installment being a prom dress special! Wahoo! We shall go to the ball!
We begin with this beautiful pastel and metallic (two trends in one you say? tick tick!) Fever dress which is available from Rivers and Roads. This particular beauty has actually just arrived through my letter box so will no doubt be appearing in a post soon! I couldn’t wait to share it with you though as it’s just so pretty! The pastel hues combined with the sparkly fabric gives a lovely shimmery effect and one which is perfect for spring/summer parties.
You could inject a bit of floral fancy into your prom with this big bold and beautiful dress from the ever wonderful Louche, from Joy. This capped sleeve dress is gorgeous and is a decent length too. It would also look bloomin’ marvelous with a petticoat!
I’m not sure if I can adequately describe how much I love this ASOS* dress and I’m clearly not alone as it keeps whizzing in and out of stock (at the time of writing it’s currently unavailable but persevere if you’ve got you heart set on it). I want to twirl in it and I want to twirl in it now.
I’m not usually one to fall for a strapless dress but there’s just something so classic and pretty about this River Island* number. I love the large stripes and how the pink and white complement one another. It’s all just a bit dreamy.
Oh my, this is pretty much pink perfection. Will you just look at that bow!? I don’t even care that I don’t have a ball to go to, this F&F* dress shall me mine! They currently appear to have knocked 30% off the £30 pricetag which makes it a total bargain! It would also make a pretty great bridesmaid dress, dontchathink?
We love a bit of Lady V London around here, so there was much cooing when they announced their new collection. I found it near impossible to choose a favourite but have plumped for this vintage peach and navy tea dress. LOVE.
This Hell Bunny dress from Aspire Style is super duper fun! The colour is fabulous, the spots are genius and the shape and style scream TO THE DANCE FLOOR.
I love this silhouette of this cotton Phase Eight dress. The colour and pattern are simply divine and who doesn’t love a tie belt?
And finally, if you’re looking for length then this stunning lace overlay dress from Little Mistress could well be the one. There’s so much beautiful detailing and the cowl back is quite frankly breathtaking. Plus it’s £45. As the kids say, Little Mistress you cray cray.
That’s all for this week! However, before I go I would like to say a massive MASSIVE thank you for nominating us for the Company Style Blogger Awards 2014. We have now officially been shortlisted in the Best Blogging Duo or Team category and it’s honestly a dream come true for us both. We are against some truly inspirational bloggers but if you would like to vote for us to win, please click the image below!
Hello one and all and welcome back to your weekly (ahem) roundup of the dresses we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted Double Thumbs seal of approval. You might have noticed that we skipped a week last week so, by way of an apology, I have made this one slightly longer. I know, I really do spoil you.
Right, so, this is a little unprecedented but first up we have FOUR dresses from the rather brilliant, People Tree. The first three form part of their ongoing collaboration with Orla Kiely, who I know we have been relentlessly banging on about recently but I can’t help it if she keeps bringing the pretty to the party. This new collaboration features three dancing girl silhouette prints and they are all so SO great. I really couldn’t choose just one so I’ve had to go with three but I could easily have chosen more. Yikes. And just when I thought I was safe I spied the balloon print dress and practically combusted at my computer. What the heck, People Tree? Are you deliberately trying to bankrupt me?
Oh good, more reasons to spend all my money! The new Poppy collection landed this week and as usual it’s perfect. This time they have embraced bright bold colours as their characters, Poppy and Fred, take Mr Giraffe to the seaside. I don’t know what party balloons have got to do with giraffes at the seaside but if the result is always this pretty, I’m on board. No, I’m not drunk. Continue reading Double Thumbs Dresses #29→
Ah, there’s nothing like a girly sleepover to warm the cockles and over the weekend we were lucky enough to spend some quality time in our finest sleepwear for an evening of hot chocolate, sweets, games and Jude Law films. How indulgent!
It’s not really a slumber party if you aren’t stuffing your face, so lucky for us the folks over at Viking* were kind enough to supply us with a lifetime supply (1kg) of Cadbury hot chocolate and Cadbury favourites! Teeny but tasty! We like to think we are somewhat connoisseurs when it comes to hot choc so you know it’s good when it gets the triple thumbs up from us! Hello dress fans! It’s time once again for a gander at the frocks deemed worthy of the highly commended Double Thumbs seal of approval. Only one more week until pay day! THANK GOD.
If you’re a regular Double Thumbs reader you will know that I’m never one to shy away from a brilliant novelty print and, just in case you hadn’t noticed, this particular a-line dress from Get Cutie is covered in beautiful sewing machines! It’s sew great! Just like my jokes, which obviously leave you in stitches.
Looking at this Rum & Fly dress just makes me so happy. Look at all those waving cats! I like to think they are waving good bye to the money I’ve just spent on dresses.
It has been a little while since we’ve featured a dress from M&S! Welcome back, guys. I am a big big fan of this very lovely birdcage print tea dress. The colours and style are super pretty and the birdcages are rather beautiful. Plus look at those sleeves! Fabulous. The only bad news is that this is the first dress I have ever wanted from M&S that isn’t part of their Limited Collection. I think this means I’m a real grown up now.
I find H&M are very good at sneaking incredible dresses onto their website with little to no fanfare. I could have quite easily missed this rather wonderful frock had it not been for my impressive dress detection methods (Google). Isn’t it great? I love the shape and those blue poka-dots. It just needs a belt and a beret. You heard it here first. Continue reading Double Thumbs Dresses #25→
