Elisha Zoo Dress £50 from Louche at Joy
Elisha Zoo Dress £50 from Louche at Joy

This Louche dress is so fantastically ridiculous that I actually burst out laughing when I first saw it! Look at it! It’s covered in animal heads (a happy to be here sort of head, not the ‘mounted on your wall for LOLZ’ sort) including pandas, racoons, cats, donkeys and elephants. You should probably snap it up faster than you can say “We Bought A Zoo”.

Desert Cranes $109.99 by Emily and Fin from Modcloth
Desert Cranes $109.99 (£76ish) by Emily and Fin from Modcloth

Just when we thought we couldn’t get any more excited about the new SS16 Emily and Fin collection this orange beauty appears on Modcloth! It’s SO gorgeous! How lovely are those cranes? It would be like wearing a sunset. Dreamy.

Striped Shift Dress £35 from La Redoute
Striped Shift Dress £35 from La Redoute

I somehow ended up stumbling onto the La Redoute website this week in search of something or other. I used to love flicking through their catalogs as a moody teenager but I must admit I hadn’t really given them much thought in recent years. Turns out I’ve been missing out!  I discovered page after page of rather lovely dresses at pretty reasonable prices. MY FAVE! There are some really fresh frocks that would be perfect for Spring and also some nice bits of vintage detailing. I think the top frock is quite Orla Kielyesque, no? Click on the dress for direct links….

Skater Dress in Ponte with Collar and Ruffle Detail £28 from ASOS
Skater Dress in Ponte with Collar and Ruffle Detail £28 from ASOS

I adore a red dress and this little ASOS skater dress looks to be smoking hot! I love the ruffle neckline detailing and the collar is super cute.

Coppelia Embellished Ballet Tulle Dress £130 by Needle & Thread at ASOS
Coppelia Embellished Ballet Tulle Dress £130 by Needle & Thread at ASOS

Someone needs to keep me the heck away from Needle & Thread because seriously, I just want it all! This floaty pink tulle ballet number of my dreams is oh so pretty and sparkly. It would make a darn great bridesmaid dress too *sigh*.

Tweed Dress with Layered Skirt £49.99 from Zara
Tweed Dress with Layered Skirt £49.99 from Zara

Last but not least we are going all chic-and-Chanel in this tweed affair from Zara. I’m so down with that big black bow and the whole thing is just rather classy isn’t it?

White floral print frilly dress £55 from River Island
White floral print frilly dress £55 from River Island
White lace jacquard sleeveless dress £65 from River Island
White lace jacquard sleeveless dress £65 from River Island

I’ve really been loving River Island lately! They’ve been adding so many dreamy SS16 pieces to their website that I seem to be adding to my wishlist on a daily basis (weirdly I can never find anything in store though). With an abundance of polkadots, organza, floral and lace between them, these two beauts are my current picks of the bunch.

Abderdy Belted Oar Print Dress £49.50 from Jack Wills
Abderdy Belted Oar Print Dress £49.50 from Jack Wills

I’m just going to stick my oar in and declare how much I enjoy this new nautical print by Jack Wills. It’s a lovely summery affair with a full skirt and fit and flare shape but, thankfully, I think it would look just as nice with a bright cardigan and some thick woolly tights.

Lydia Cherry Jacquard Dress £55 by Sugarhill Boutique at John Lewis
Lydia Cherry Jacquard Dress £55 by Sugarhill Boutique at John Lewis

You can’t beat a sweet cherry and this super pretty print from Sugarhill Boutique is a real fruity number. The delicate pinks and greys look gorgeous set against the white of this textured dress.

Synchronised Swimmers Dress £75 by Emily and Fin at Aspire Style/Modcloth
Synchronised Swimmers Dress £75 by Emily and Fin at Aspire Style/Modcloth

You might recognise this fun frock from our previous style post (which you should totally read as it includes the chance to win a £50 Aspire Style voucher)! It’s one of my absolute favourites from the new Emily and Fin collection – the print is just perfection! It’s available from Aspire Style and, for our American pals, Modcloth.

Lace Shirt Dress £99 from Warehouse
Lace Shirt Dress £99 from Warehouse

This lace shirt dress from Warehouse is the stuff of dreams. Argh it’s SO pretty! I love the shirt detailing at the top with the little collar. And then that lace overlay! Stunning.

Pink Peony Printed Lace Insert Gown £350 from Needle & Thread at Libery
Pink Peony Printed Lace Insert Gown £350 from Needle & Thread at Libery

Speaking of dreaming….I am probably never going to own this beautiful Needle & Thread dress but gosh darn isn’t it something? It looks like it would have excellent wafting abilities and that fabulous floral peony print with the little lace inserts is just wonderful. Sigh.

Double Thumbs Dresses #45

Hello hello and welcome back to Double Thumbs Dresses! Our weekly(ish) roundup of the frocks deemed to be worthy of the highly coveted She and Hem Double Thumbs seal of approval. Let’s crack on.

Aurora Dress in Blue Castle Print $144 (or £120)
Aurora Dress in Blue Castle Print $144 (or £120) by Pinup Girl Clothing available from Deadly is the Female

It’s not often that I am rendered speechless by a dress but that’s what momentarily happened when I spied this fit-for-a-princess frock by Pinup Girl Clothing. The enchanted castle print is simply stunning and combined with that perfect shape and colour it’s just begging to be worn on a jolly jaunt around Disneyland. Thankfully for us Brits, this American brand is also available from Frome based (West Country REPRESENT!) shop, Deadly is the Female. Magical.

Love Me Not Dress £79
Love Me Not Dress £79 from Coco Fennell

Continuing my dress related joy this week was my discovery of Shoreditch based creator of fun, Coco Fennell! I got a little overexcited on their website and basically ended up wanting everything they have ever made (if anyone knows where I can get a helter skelter print shirt I am yours). I eventually decided that this super cute baby blue dress was my current favourite! Just look at the collar!

Scattered Stars Dress £65
Scattered Stars Dress £65 from Cath Kidston

Oh my starry eyed surprise, this Cath Kidston number is a bit special! CK are really killing it with the great prints and cuts this A/W and quite frankly neither my bank balance or my wardrobe can take much more.

Love Dress £49
Love Dress £49 from Sugarhill Boutique available at House of Fraser

This hearty Sugarhill Boutique number really is the perfect Autumn wear dress with it’s playful print and lovely long sleeves. I am already envisioning black tights, brogues and some leaves to kick. Maybe even a nice hat to really to set it off.

Midi Skater Dress in Tapestry Floral Print £28 from ASOS
Midi Skater Dress in Tapestry Floral Print £28 from ASOS

I always appreciate a good floral and with that gorgeous mustard colour, fab length and the fact it looks so easy to just throw on, this ASOS tapestry dress is ticking all the right boxes for me! I am already eyeing it up as a potential work frock.

Victoriana Lace Dress £46 from Topshop
Victoriana Lace Dress £46 from Topshop

I am rather smitten with this Victoriana dress that appeared on the Topshop website this week. It’s such a beautiful vintage inspired piece and the lace detailing is just wonderful. Good work, Toppers.

Embellished Blossom Dress £15
Embellished Blossom Dress £150 from Needle & Thread at ASOS

This Needle & Thread dress is simply exquisite. The detailing is so intricate and beautiful and SO SPARKLY. The oxblood colour is gorgeous too and would be perfect party wear for this time of year (and dare I say it, Christmas). I keep watching the ASOS catwalk in the hope that one day the model is going to mysteriously hand me £150 through the computer. Seems unlikely though.

REDOSIE Graphic Print Tunic £139 from Ted Baker
REDOSIE Graphic Print Tunic £139 from Ted Baker

I feel like this Ted Baker number might not be everyone’s cup of tea but personally I adore this graphic print tunic. There’s something about that headless woman and her red outfit that really appeals to me. Plus, it has glitzy embellished shoulders! You go girl.

Double Thumbs Dresses #20

Good morning one and all and congratulations, you’ve made it to Wednesday! Why not reward yourself with a cursory glance at this week’s list of dresses that receive the highly coveted She and Hem Double Thumbs seal of approval. It would almost be rude not to.

Cream Jacquard Necklace Skater Dress £45 from River Island

This looks like a lovely wintery dress doesn’t it? I can imagine doing all manner of pretty wintery activities wearing this number. It would most probably be totally impractical to go ice-skating in but gosh darn it, you’d look nice wouldn’t you? Until you fall over that is. Lovely stuff, River Island, lovely stuff.

Printed Dress with Crossover Back £49.99 from Zara

I love this very pretty navy dress from Zara. The floral print is all sorts of lovely and I find that shape and style of dress to be extremely flattering. The cut out detail on the back makes it stand out from all the other millions of floral dresses I love and, thus, gives me the perfect excuse to buy it. Well played.

Winter Audrey Dress £79.00 from Boden

When it comes to modern vintage, Boden are just superb. I simply love this 60s inspired Aubrey dress from their new collection. Giant polka-dots for the win! The good news is Boden have kindly knocked 30% off the price of dresses (at the time of writing that is), the bad news is you might have a job on your hands obtaining your size.

Darling Bow A-Line Dress £18.75 from Forver 21

Winter pastels is a trend I would dearly love to tap into but sadly, due to limited funds, it just hasn’t happened for me. This lovely little sugary pink dress from Forever 21 could well be the answer to my cheapskate prayers as I would no doubt happily cavort about in it come spring but in the meantime I can happily team it with white woolly tights and my bobble hat. Trendy! Continue reading Double Thumbs Dresses #20

Double Thumbs Dresses #17

Hey Hemsters!

In need of a mid week pick me up? Well look no further than this week’s round up of the dresses deemed deserving of the highly coveted Double Thumbs seal of approval. Warning: this week may contain sparkle.

Floral Jacquard Dress
Floral Jacquard Dress £85 by ‘Loved by Mollie’ for Oasis

I’m not usually one for a celebrity fashion line but I’ll admit my interest was piqued when glossy haired purveyor of short shorts, and Victoria’s style crush, Mollie King threw her fashionable hat into the ring this week with the launch of her Oasis edit. Personally, I was expecting a lot of the aforementioned short shorts plus maybe a nice blazer or two. What I was not expecting was this incredible vintage inspired floral jacquared dress. Holy Moly Mollie, what are you trying to do to me? I just love love LOVE everything about this dress. The  winter floral colours are divine and it looks like it would fit like a dream. Have I mentioned the sleeves? Look at those sleeves! And I’ve managed to get through this entire paragraph without making a single Saturdays joke! Things are looking Up…

Textured Fit and Flare Dress £45 by Poem from Oliver Bonas

You’ll cut the mustard in this, errr, mustard dress from Oliver Bonas‘ in-house collection, Poem. This is the sort of dress that I would wear at least once a week. It’s an absolute A/W staple and I can already think of at least 507 ways I could wear it. Bonus points to Bonas who have teamed it on the website with a lovely big necklace and silver shiny dancing shoes. I think it would look equally as special with big boots and a long chunky cardy.

Limited Edition No Peep™ Faux Pearl Embellished Collar Spotted Shirt Dress - Marks & Spencer
Faux Pearl Embellished Collar Spotted Shirt Dress £45 from Marks and Spencers

You may remember last week that I was dribbling with desire over a rather lovely polka-dot dress that Victoria had pinned over on a Pinterest board (subtle come follow us on Pinterest plug). Well, imagine what happened when I spied this little stunner from M&S? EVEN MORE DRIBBLE THAT’S WHAT. It has a pearl collar for goodness sake! What a triumph. It’s a lovely shape and M&S even promise to maintain your modesty with ‘concealed extra buttons’. However if you read the reviews it apparently comes up rather short. Modesty: unmaintained.

Cross Embellished Skater Dress £85.00 from Topshop

I genuinely thought someone famous was in my local Topshop when I walked in over the weekend. Such was the size of the crowd gathered around the above dress. The website doesn’t even do it justice, it’s simply beautiful and oh so sparkly! Can I mention New Years Eve in October? Probably not. Continue reading Double Thumbs Dresses #17
