A couple of weeks ago, an exciting email from Next popped into our inbox inviting us to the #shoeboxjukebox party in London’s Trendy Shoreditch™. Not only that, but we were asked to choose any pair of shoes from their website to wear to the event! After several hours browsing and whatsapping potential choices to one another, we went mad for monochrome and I (Victoria) chose the white Forever Comfort Leather Sandals and Jo chose the black Suede Wide Heels.  I was particularly pleased to see that Next stock half sizes to cater for irregular tootsies like mine. I do love a good half size, so bravo Next! We’ve both agreed our choices are going to be staples in our Spring/Summer wardrobes. A perfect fit!

We’re so glad we made the trip to London, as the event was one of the best we’ve been to in a while, and not just because of the endless supply of food! After being laced (ho!) with a few free cocktails, we were in a suitably merry mood, and in addition to watching the fab flash mob of dancers performing to songs straight outta the jukebox, it was a great chance to catch up with blogger pals over some salted caramel balls! There was no need for any sole searching on the night either, as the venue was decked out in the shiny new collection for us all to have a peep (toe) at. We tried (and failed) to win one of the pairs in a genuinely tense game of ‘Higher or Lower?’, grabbed a marvellous mini manicure and tried (and failed) to customise some trainers. You could say we really shoehorned in a lot of activities!

Bangers and Fash

She and Hem | Bangers and Fash | Yumi

December has finally arrived and with it the perfect excuse to dress up all fancy every day of the week! Christmas time is party time afterall! Pass us a mince pie and some mulled wine, will you?

She and Hem | Bangers and Fash | YumiShe and Hem | Bangers and Fash | YumiShe and Hem | Bangers and Fash | Yumi

We do love a reason to glam up and decided to break out our new festive dresses from the Yumi partywear collection* yesterday for a vintage filled day of fun at the Heartfelt Vintage shop in Bristol. After being completely transformed by Able Mabel who did an incredible job on our hair and Evie Smith who truly made us look the part, we felt ready to hit the dance floor!

She and Hem | Bangers and Fash | Yumi She and Hem | Bangers and Fash | Yumi

Jo: I layered my beautiful silver Floral Prom Dress* over a super sparkly sequin top from New Look. I thought it added some extra pizzazz (you can never have too much pizzazz) and as I don’t like things to be too low cut, it protected my modesty. I added a black belt from ASOS, white tights from Topshop and some super sparkly high heels from Primark.

She and Hem | Bangers and Fash | YumiShe and Hem | Bangers and Fash | Yumi

Victoria: My sleeveless Wallpaper Print Dress* is party perfect! I’m not usually a big fan of red dresses, but I was drawn to the shirt collar and easy to wear shape. I teamed it with black striped tights from Marks and Spencer, silver brogues from Next and a gorgeous black vintage bag from Heartfelt Vintage in Bristol.

In the evening we went to the fireworks which were put on to celebrate 150 years of the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Don’t they look incredible?! I know we’ve said it before but we sure do love Bristol.

We’ll be posting more about our day at Heartfelt later in the week!

Double Thumbs Dresses #33

Howdy partners! It’s DT time! Your weekly *sideways glance* roundup of the dresses we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted Double Thumbs seal of approval. Before we crack on, I am going to make a shameless plea! The nominations for the Company Blogger Awards 2014 have opened and we would be chuffed as nuts if you would consider voting for us. There’s even a blogger duo category! Shameless plea over, it’s frock o’clock.

Map Print Cotton Fit Flare Dress £85 from Laura Ashley
Map Print Cotton Fit Flare Dress £85 from Laura Ashley

I have been waiting forever (at least 3 weeks) for this beauty to hit the Laura Ashley website and it sure was worth the wait. It’s got the most gorgeous old world map print, complete with big ships, whales and deckchairs! Yes, more deckchairs! I hereby declare deckchairs to be a SS14 essential.

Vintage Floral Midi Bardot Dress £85 from ASOS
Vintage Floral Midi Bardot Dress £85 from ASOS

Oh me oh my, ASOS are killing it with the dresses at the moment. They rather inconsiderately keep selling out before I have the chance to buy them (and by that I mean they aren’t hanging around long enough to go into a sale), which is a real bummer. This gorgeous vintage style dress has a beautiful off the shoulder neckline and sublime fit and flare shape.

Organza Prom Dress £25 from Matalan
Organza Prom Dress £25 from Matalan

Matalan are also bringing the pretty this season with some lovely feminine florals. This gorgeous organza prom dress has a super flattering silhouette and the all important  mesh panel.

Wish You Were Here Dress £60 from Great Plains
Wish You Were Here Dress £60 from Great Plains

This postcard print dress from Great Plains is surely worth writing home about (unlike my jokes, eh). I do enjoy a shirt dress and this one happens to have a lovely rounded collar and a very pretty peach and blue pallet going on. It’s also got birds on it. So that’s nice. Vogue Festival: Harrods Live

Harrods LiveHarrods Live

We have just returned home from a fantastic weekend at the 2014 Vogue Festival in London, courtesy of the lovely people at Boden. We attended so many interesting and inspirational talks, took advantage of the plethora of activities on offer and just generally soaked up the atmosphere of the festival. It was excellent! We will of course be blogging about the talks we attended over the coming days but we would firstly like to tell you about the Harrods Live experience, a competition which offered guests the opportunity to strut their stuff down the catwalk! We couldn’t resist!

She and Home: Harvey Nichols SS14

DSC_1021

Earlier this week, we had the privilege of attending the Harvey Nichols Spring/Summer fashion show. So, as you do, we chanel-led our inner fashionistas, pretended our Primark was Prada and drank the free-flowing Perriet Jouet until we felt like we could afford everything in the store. A dangerous combination but thankfully one which didn’t come to fruition.

DSC_1002DSC_0905DSC_0908DSC_0925DSC_0975After a welcome (and a quick catch up with some lovely fellow bloggers!) at their Bristol store, the show itself was held at Cutlers Hall (which for Bristolian’s is above Brasserie Blanc) in a room festooned with flowers and great long benches lining the path for the runway. The models sashayed their way down one side of the room and then back up the other, giving everyone ample opportunity to see the pieces. As you would expect from a high end store like Harvey Nichols, the presentation was beautiful and we did a lot of pointing and cooing. We were also very impressed to see Jade from Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model on the runway because that, my friend, is our level right there. It must be said that the models were all fabulous and injected a nice bit of personality into proceedings. Continue reading She and Home: Harvey Nichols SS14

She and Home: PJs and Dunkin

 Orangery4

Ah, there’s nothing like a girly sleepover to warm the cockles and over the weekend we were lucky enough to spend some quality time in our finest sleepwear for an evening of hot chocolate, sweets, games and Jude Law films. How indulgent!

Orangary1

It’s not really a slumber party if you aren’t stuffing your face, so lucky for us the folks over at Viking* were kind enough to supply us with a lifetime supply (1kg) of Cadbury hot chocolate and Cadbury favourites! Teeny but tasty! We like to think we are somewhat connoisseurs when it comes to hot choc so you know it’s good when it gets the triple thumbs up from us! Accessories to Murder #10 Christmas Special

There are only 3 sleeps until Christmas, so it’s the perfect time to have a brand spanking new Accessories to Murder. We’ve only gone and made it a Christmas Special! An early gift to our fabulous Hemsters and maybe some inspiration for any last minute gifts you need!  If you are anything like me you will be SO ready for a few days off to relax and indulge in mince pies, toffee pennies and my new favourite tipple, mulled cider. Joyeux Noël!

Flashing Light Necklace, £6, Claire’s.

Now, I know it’s a bit of a faff wearing batteries as part of your outfit (don’t ask how!), but stay with me here, as this necklace exemplifies Christmas. This fully functioning flashing light necklace won’t be hard to accessorize with your Christmas outfit as it has not one but three settings.

Gingerbread Man Earrings, £16.02, Etsy.

Just how cute are these little fellas from Pixie Hearts via Etsy? These ginger guys will certainly brighten up these chilly December evenings. They are made to order, so if you have a bit of a sweet tooth (or ear…), get your orders in asap! If it’s too late to order for this year, why not be super organised and grab some for 2014?

red hat
Pom Pom Beanie, £10, Next

I’ve been looking for a cute beanie to wear over winter for a while now and I think I found the perfect knitted wonder in Next while I was Christmas shopping this weekend, and thought I should share it with you! It is Christmassy, but unlike the light necklace, you won’t look a little bonkers wearing it come January. Continue reading Accessories to Murder #10 Christmas Special

Hem and Away: South West Bloggers Meet

20131122-143729.jpg
South West Bloggers Meet 2013! Photo by Kerry Dyer

Last Saturday we attended the South West Bloggers Meet in Exeter, which was organised and hosted by gorgeous bloggers Liza Pardeux and Kerry Dyer. We had been looking forward to this meet-up for what feels like forever so it was with great excitement that we boarded our train from Bristol!

Ex3The event was held upstairs at John Gandy’s cocktail bar, a lovely venue tucked away on a charming cobbled street located a mere few seconds from the hustle and bustle of the main high-street. On arrival we were greeted by a huge table of Lush goodies! Heaven! We promptly dropped our bags and began sampling the sumptuous smellies! The lovely Lush ladies were on hand to demonstrate how to apply the Snow Fairy massage bar, which smells divine, and to show off their Christmas wares. We were slightly dismayed to learn that our favourite seasonal Lush product, Ruby Red Slippers, won’t be making a return this Christmas. You can’t be truly festive unless you’re bathing in red glitter. An online campaign might be in order.

Ex6However we soon got over this news after a swift perusal of the cocktail menu! We settled on the strawberry daiquiri, pictured above, which was rather dreamy!Ex7

As well as Lush, Pearlys were also on hand to demonstrate their teeth whitening products. There’s nothing quite like watching a bunch of bloggers stand around scrubbing their teeth with a tiny finger mit! We couldn’t resist trying it out and were surprised at just how instantaneous the results were. We also got a little over excited by the above lip gloss which has a fully functioning light within the lid and a mirror on the side. Genius. Continue reading Hem and Away: South West Bloggers Meet

Double Thumbs Dresses #18

Hey Hemsters!

I’m back to brighten up your Monday with a selection of the frocks deemed worthy of the highly coveted She and Hem Double Thumbs seal of approval. Onwards!

Amalee Floral Skater Dress - Sale | LashesofLondon.com
Amalee Floral Skater Dress £10 (was £55) from Lashes of London

Last night, whilst researching this post, I ended up browsing the Lashes of London sale section. Turns out those guys really know how to do a reduction as I managed to pick up the above dress AND a playsuit for £15. WHAT MADNESS IS THIS? I pretty much spat out my tea when I saw this little stunner for such a thrifty price. The print is simply beautiful and as I don’t own anything off the shoulder, I figured this was as good a time as any to try the look out. And how fun is that neckline? Ridiculous. Three things to note: 1) At the time of writing, the dress is in stock in all sizes so mega soz if they have all sold out by lunch time 2) A previous Double Thumbs favourite, the rainbow dress, is also in the sale! and 3) Use the promotion code BLOGGER25 to get a further 25% off your purchase.

Red Floral Jersey Dress £26 from Next

Well this is a rather dreamy purse pleasing Autumnal number from Next. I know I keep banging on about my unwillingness to embrace the tartan trend but throw in some florals and it would seem I’m fully prepared to get on board.

Cheshire Dress #anthropologie
Cheshire Dress £178 from Anthropologie

I most certainly had a humongous Cheshire cat grin when I spied this Cheshire cat print dress from Anthropologie, who by the by are going to be opening up in Bath *pops party poppers*. Pretty colours, lovely sleeves but a slightly scary price tag. Ho hum.

Martha Denim Smock Dress
Martha Denim Smock Dress £21 from Olive and Frank

I keep seeing pretty ladies in pretty smocks looking all pretty and stuff. However, according to my OH a smock is more of a sack and should be avoided by me at all costs. Naturally, this makes me want to own nothing but smocks! I’ve been eyeing up this pretty denim one from Olive and Frank. It seems like a bit of a winner. Continue reading Double Thumbs Dresses #18
