Happy International Friendship Day!

If you’re reading this blog, you probably already know that we are super chums, BFF’s, all round top pals. Our wonderful friendship goes way beyond the blog. We holiday together, were bridesmaids for each other and we even had our beautiful babies one month apart. Both girls, obviously. But above all that, and please forgive the sentimentality here, our phones automatically connect to each other’s wifi. Pretty close, right?

We like to think we know each other better than anyone else (other than our husbands, of course!). So when notonthehighstreet.com got in touch to see if we wanted to celebrate International Friendship Day with them as part of their super sweet #SummerofSurprises campaign, we jumped at the chance! A great friend is something to cherish and celebrate, so we were both chuffed to be asked to choose a gift for one another. We wanted to choose a real treat that the other probably wouldn’t splurge on for themselves, and it was a lot of fun!

What I (Victoria) didn’t realise was exactly how wide a range of things notonthehighstreet.com sells, and how genuinely awesome it all is. I was a little overwhelmed at first and had soon opened (roughly) a million tabs filled with potential treats for Jo. As Jo is moving next month, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to get her something special for the new house that both her and her husband would love. I’ve spent A LOT of time in their current flat, so I like to think I have a pretty good idea of their personal style. Added to what I know about their new place (contemporary and modern), I decided to go for something useful, fun and stylish.

After deciding that a chair possibly wasn’t an appropriate gift, however useful, the incredible Hoop Wall Light* (pictured below) caught my eye whilst browsing the home items. It completely fitted the bill! I could imagine them both admiring it in a trendy interiors store whilst out shopping, and I just knew that Jo would love it as much as I did. Who wouldn’t want to spend their downtime sitting under a giant glowing moon? I can’t wait to see it where they hang it in the new pad. I hope they find it as illuminating as I did.

#SummerofSurprise with Not On The High Street #SummerofSurprise with Not On The High Street#SummerofSurprise with Not On The High Street Jo here! Just like Victoria, I soon had a long list of ideas about what to pick thanks to all of the original gifts on the website. A sentimental person would they say they are just as unique as our friendship. Awwww. What I didn’t know was that notonthehighstreet.com also sells experiences, and my goodness, they all sound great! The gifts on offer include stargazing, a pinata workshop and even bee keeping! However, as Victoria is allergic to bees, that would have made for a memorable, if not particularly enjoyable experience…

After collecting my thoughts, I remembered that Victoria’s second wedding anniversary is coming up in September, so I thought it would be pretty dreamy to send her and her husband off for a romantic stay somewhere. As luck would have it, one of the NOTHS partners offered an overnight stay* in the cutest cottage hideaway in Wales, which just so happens to be where Victoria and her husband met. Log fire, roll top bath and welcome hamper all included. Now where do I collect my BFF award guys?

On giving the gift to Victoria yesterday in preparation for International Friends Day, she was absolutely thrilled. In fact she was so happy that she said she’s going to write a post all about her time away in Pembrokeshie, so look out for that on the blog later in the year!

JIG Metallic Mary-Janes | £69.00 | Topshop

Well aren’t these Mary-Janes so damn groovy? Weddings often involve a lot of standing and a heck of a lot of dancing, so it’s a really good idea to wear block heels, especially if they are also cute and shiny. Topshop have got loads of pretty party shoes at the moment, but these are by far my favourites.

Square Sunray Compact Mirror| £9.00 | Monsoon

When I was a bridesmaid for Jo, she gave me a box of Thank You goodies which included a gorgeous mirror. It was such an adorable thing to do as every time I use the mirror, I think about the lovely day that we shared. Seeing this Mirror in Monsoon reminded me of this, and I would definitely recommend the idea to anyone putting together little packages for their family and friends. A small but thoughtful gift!

Accessories to Murder #5

It’s that time again Hemsters. I’ve poured myself a chocolate wine, grabbed a packet of bourbons, and now I’m ready to delve into the world of amazing accessories. We’ve got a right old mixture this week as I thought it would be nice to feature some accessories that are often missed from blogs. On that note, let’s start with Umbrellas!

Cumulus Cutie Umbrella, £19.90, ModCloth

Not usually classed as your average accessory I know, but hey consider this a treat. Now, the weatherman has promised that it’s going to be a glorious July with no rain, but I very much drought it. This is England, so we need to be prepared to get a little soggy. ModCloth do a great range of affordable brollies, with this cute cloud design being my personal favourite. It’s big and sturdy enough to keep you dry all day, but it doesn’t look bulky due to it’s brilliant bright blue print and tan curved wooden handle.  I’d certainly be singin’ in the rain with this beauty.

Raining Cats And Dogs Umbrella, £23.95, Hello Brolly.

When it rains, it really paws right? So keep yourself dry with this funbrella from umbrella queen Hello Brolly, who also stock square and heart shaped umbrellas and several beautiful wedding umbrellas. If I had this umbrella I would be praying for rain so I could embrace my inner Rihanna on the streets of Bristol.

Colourful House Print Scarf, £10, Yumi

Even if the weatherman was right, a colourful scarf could still come in handy for our chilly evenings. We’re are big fans of Yumi here at She and Hem, especially their House Print items, including the dress which we featured in Double Thumbs Dresses #1. This scarf has recently gone into the Yumi sale and is now an absolute bargain at £10! It’s bright, quirky and will go with pretty much anything.

Garden Birds Saddle Bag, £68, Cath Kidston.

Cath Kidston has just released their new range of bags featuring this delightful saddle bag. Reviews on their website say the picture does not do the bag justice, so pop in to your local branch, have a nosey and let me know what you find! I think the bag looks adorable. I’m a big fan of the cross body strap, which allows you to take it out and about. It also features a surprisingly generous five pockets, so it would be perfect for traveling or work, or if you are anything like me, for carrying emergency chocolate.

ASOS Rotating Globe Adventure Watch, £22, ASOS.

One for all of you adventurous readers out there, this thrilling ASOS watch not only has a vintage globe print but also a mind-blowing moving plane design. Will you have your own adventure in this watch? Only time will tell…

Afternoon Tea Earrings, £5.95, by Jodie Anna via notonthehighstreet.com.

These earrings by Jodie Anna are just delightfully sweet and pretty. Inspired by childhood memories and nostalgia, she aims to create wearable memories for everyone to enjoy. Her collection is beautiful and features other She and Hem favourites, such as cupcakes and bunting. At £5.95, they would make lovely unique presents for friends or a small treat for keeping yourself out of the July rain!
