Hello hello! Welcome back to Double Thumbs Dresses, our roundup of the frocks we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted double thumbs seal of approval! Before we crack on, just a heads up, this particular Double Thumbs Dresses contains a sponsored link but please be assured we only feature the frocks we consider tip top! As you were…
Oh how I do love this super summer frock from Anthropologie! It’s such a pretty silhouette with a button up front, adorable collar and the all important waist-cinching tie belt. Love! Plus those multicolored spots you see before you are actually ice lollies! Good enough to eat.
I think we all know how much I love a bit of organza by now so this little number from Chicwish really caught my eye! It’s so floaty! I am seriously loving those big bold daisies too.
This bright floral skater dress from Quiz is ticking all my floral boxes. How gorgeous are those pinks and blues together? Just delightful and definitely one for twirling in!
I’m obviously in a floral mood as I am also really diggin’ this Oasis number, who are really impressing me with their SS16 offerings. Those sleeves are a total triumph.
I have been waiting for this River Island (also available at ASOS) to hit the website since February and am pleased as punch it is finally available. Those ruffles are everything to me! Get In My Wardrobe.
This pink lacey number from ASOS is majorly pretty. I love all the details including those dreamy ruffles (loving a ruffle atm apparently), button keyhole back and the little tie.
Last but not least we have this denim scorcher from French Connection. I am obsessed with that scalloped lace crochet detailing! Just wonderful and perfect for laid back Summer days, if they ever arrive.
Hello hello! Welcome back to Double Thumbs Dresses, our roundup of the frocks we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted double thumbs seal of approval! Let’s crack on…
I’ve really been loving River Island lately! They’ve been adding so many dreamy SS16 pieces to their website that I seem to be adding to my wishlist on a daily basis (weirdly I can never find anything in store though). With an abundance of polkadots, organza, floral and lace between them, these two beauts are my current picks of the bunch.
I’m just going to stick my oar in and declare how much I enjoy this new nautical print by Jack Wills. It’s a lovely summery affair with a full skirt and fit and flare shape but, thankfully, I think it would look just as nice with a bright cardigan and some thick woolly tights.
You can’t beat a sweet cherry and this super pretty print from Sugarhill Boutique is a real fruity number. The delicate pinks and greys look gorgeous set against the white of this textured dress.
You might recognise this fun frock from our previous style post (which you should totally read as it includes the chance to win a £50 Aspire Style voucher)! It’s one of my absolute favourites from the new Emily and Fin collection – the print is just perfection! It’s available from Aspire Style and, for our American pals, Modcloth.
This lace shirt dress from Warehouse is the stuff of dreams. Argh it’s SO pretty! I love the shirt detailing at the top with the little collar. And then that lace overlay! Stunning.
Speaking of dreaming….I am probably never going to own this beautiful Needle & Thread dress but gosh darn isn’t it something? It looks like it would have excellent wafting abilities and that fabulous floral peony print with the little lace inserts is just wonderful. Sigh.
Hello hello! Welcome back to Double Thumbs Dresses! It’s time once again for our frocktacular roundup of the dresses deemed worthy of the highly coveted Double Thumbs seal of approval….
Hold on to your hats folks for the new THE WHITEPEPPER collection is soy fun that I think a party cannon has just exploded IN MY FACE. This smock dress with cropped sleeves is festooned with super adorable sushi, plus the odd panda and rainbow chucked in for good measure. This frock had better not sell out or else I’ll lose my tempura.
Ah, this River Island number is so purdy. I just love the blue and white together and the colour block panels work really nicely. How insanely gorgeous is that floral collar though? I may need to track this one down in store for a closer inspection.
With stripes being the in thing at the moment and blue and coral set to be the hawt colour combination of the season, this Oasis dress is taking trends and smashing them like it’s nobody’s business.
I do love a novelty animal print so happy was I when I stumbled across these monochrome mutts on the H&M website. So cute! This frock is also available in two other non-novelty-animal prints if dogs aren’t your bag.
Lazy Oaf sure do know how to raise a smile don’t they? I adore this gorgeous blue shirt dress with it’s massive white scalloped collar and super sweet embroidered rainbow motif. It’s so bright and cheery!
How sweet is this floral affair from Urban Outfitters? I’m digging the high neck and love the little extra details like the subtle bit of lace across the chest and the frills at the neck.
We love a bit of Sugarhill Boutique here at She and Hem (*spoiler alert* there’s a new style post coming soon!) so I was very happy to find this John Lewis exclusive. Who doesn’t love a good zebra or 12? Such a good print and love that it’s cut to the knee.
This Zara tunic dress is joyously jazzy! The contrasting prints and colours make it really pop and it’s pretty much just a dream dress come true. Top work, everyone.
Hello and welcome to the 22nd Accessories to Murder! I don’t know about you, but we are feeling 22. Are you ready to delve into the world of amazing accessories? Excellent! Without further ado, here are the accessories that have made it onto this week’s She and Hem’s Most Wanted.
Glitter? Check! Embellishments? Check! Flat enough to run for the bus? Check! My friends, I think I’ve found the jazziest pair of flats that money can buy. If you can find a more exciting pair of flats (good luck!), send those links my way, or drop them in the comments below. Whatever kind of shoe I’m looking for, I can always find something I like on ASOS, especially when it comes to the more colourful option.
If you haven’t seen these Clarks block heels yet, where the heck have you been? Seriously, get yourself over to the Clarks website because they are on fire at the moment. So many dazzling designs! I am so taken by the chalk colour of these retro beauties. If you’re not so keen, they also come in more subtle shades of fuchsia and black suede.
Last week I asked on Twitter if anyone knew where I could find a pair of really fun sunglasses ready for London Fashion Week, and the lovely and wise @cloveroverover pointed me in the direction of Spangled. My goodness, I’ve never such a bright, original and eye-popping collection. As a not so secret Jurassic Park fan, I thought these yellow and blue dinotastic specs were pretty roar-some, with some truly TRex-cellent colouring. Popping these bad boys on will ensure you get a raptor-ous reception, wherever you go.
Sometimes I feel confident enough to wear multicoloured glasses with plastic dinosaurs and sequins on, but other times I just want to hide behind the largest sunglasses I can find and watch the world go by. These rounded Mango frames are perfect for the latter. They are just as striking, but in a completely different, more refined way. With that delicate and glorious shade of gold, I’m sold.
How cute is this structured winged tote from River Island? Very is the answer. I just can’t take my eyes off it! Oh yes, and it just so happens to be in serenity blue and rose quartz, the colours of the season. You can use the two top handles, or if you are on the move, just whack on the shoulder strap.
Last, but not least, is this cheeky little find from Yumi. Now, we’ve written about Yumi quite a few times, but in the past we’ve focused on their boots, coats and dresses. I’ve sinced discovered they also so blooming great accessories, like this quirky travel wallet. With items this great, I predict that you’ll be seeing a lot more of Yumi in future Accessories to Murder posts!
On Thursday I popped down to The Mall at Cribbs Causeway with my friend, fashion icon and fellow M&S appreciator Kelly to catch one of the runway shows of Bristol Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 15. This was my third BFW and it was definitely the best so far thanks to the brilliant movie theme that was embraced from start to finish! It was such a nice touch to be welcomed with popcorn and Kelly and I had a great time admiring the movie posters as we drank our delicious fruity drinks.
The first thing to catch our eye on the catwalk was the ‘High Shine’ collection from John Lewis! You can’t beat a bit of glitz and glamour and I suddenly became all about sparkles, faux fur and sunglasses! What a combination! Plus, how much do I want to be the sort of girl to rock up at the work Christmas party wearing an actual crown?? I also loved the 70s injection courtesy of M&S during the ‘Nomadic’ segment. I can totally see myself trying this look out come the colder weather and couldn’t help but notice the similarities between that pink hat and the one from Accessorize I fell in love with in our last post! I may have made a sneaky purchase after the show!
As someone who likes to dress in as many bright colours as possible, the large amount of grey and black on the catwalk (the grey coat appears to be this seasons staple) didn’t really do it for me although, once again, I was really feeling the faux fur accessories! I’m going to be a big fan of this trend I can see! Both Kelly and I also enjoyed the liberal use of colourful tights which gave everything a bit of a Gossip Girl vibe and is certainly something I will be happy to embrace!
The two stand out pieces for us were the black sequin jacket (which was spectacularly hard to photograph) from M&S, naturally. It’s absolutely stunning and a brilliant take on the biker jacket. Imagine throwing that on top of your dresses come party season! We did several laps of the store after the show but sadly couldn’t find it (probably just as well as it’s £89) but it is available online should you be feeling flush. The other was the gold and purple fringe dress of dreams from Phase Eight at John Lewis which had Kelly shouting “MAKE SURE YOU TAKE PHOTOS OF THAT!” at me as it came sashaying down the catwalk, fringe all over the shop. What a stunner.
Did you go to Bristol Fashion Week? What was your favourite piece? And how are we all feeling about crimped hair??
Jo wears – Floral Print Ruffle Dress from Topshop, bag and tights both past season from M&S, Pointed Loafers from Boden* and heart sunglasses from TkMaxx
Kelly wears – Dress from Primark (available in store), bag from Joy, a scrabble necklace (similar available from Not on the High Street) and a watch from Urban Outfitters
Well hello there and welcome back to Double Thumbs Dresses! Just when you thought I’d forgotten about you, eh? As Cher Horowitz would say, AS IF! I am back with a new roundup of the dresses we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted Double Thumbs seal of approval…..
We begin with this bit of retro gorgeousness courtesy of the wonderful Boden, who continue to knock it out of the park season after season! That massive floral print is bloomin’ marvelous and who doesn’t love a cheeky little shift now and again?
Oh blimey, you should all know by now that the way to my clothes-loving heart is with a hot air balloon so naturally I was all over this Oliver Bonas frock when I spotted it in store! As well as the balloons this dress features adorable hand drawn images of famous landmarks from London, Paris and Pisa. It’s so pretty and perfect for Summer.
I love love love the colours of this chic little Warehouse dress! It’s just so darn bright and the 70s style and print are totally fab! I usually worry about a high neck but actually I think this dress would be super flattering.
This ship shape dress from Cutie (available from New Look and Modcloth) is really floating my boat! The tugboat illustrations are just lovely and make this simple dress so delightfully playful.
I wasn’t initially sure about the whole denim dress trend but thanks to seeing a lot of other bloggers looks fabulous in them I now find myself coveting this little beauty from Marks and Spencer. It just looks so nice! and so easy to wear! and I want one!
The new in section of F&F is a triumph at the moment, it really is. They’ve gone a bit 60s & 70s inspired dresses crazy and I for one am LOVING IT. This poppy print shirt dress is my pick of the bunch thanks to those dreamy sleeves.
I’ve also really been loving River Island of late and this neat little paisley print shirt dress is a fine example of why. The colours are just dreamy with the yellows, pinks, and browns all complimenting each other perfectly. Worn with the collar open and the sleeves rolled up, you my friend would be hot to trot.
Wimbledon might be over but surely strawberries and cream never truly goes out of style! I think this fruity number from Oasis looks good enough to eat and I am eyeing up ready for my sunny summer holiday next month!
Hello hello! It’s Double Thumbs time again! Your weekly roundup of the top frocks we have deemed worthy of our seal of approval. Before we continue, I believe there’s time for one final shameless plea for any Company Style Blogger Awards votes. If you like our thumbs, please do take a moment to check out the website. We are on page 4! Voting closes on Friday. ONWARDS.
Ha! You thought you’d seen the last of my pineapples but here we are again, in what I am now calling the fashion world’s ‘pineapple agenda’, with another from There’s Only One Amy Laws. But WHAT a pretty 50’s style pineapple frock this is. I love everything about it.
Ha! You thought you’d seen the last of my pinea….yeah, it’s kind of getting a bit silly now isn’t it? I can’t help it though. I’m just drawn to the tropical. This lovely cami is fromRiver Island.
People can tell me all they want about how Marks and Spencer have lost their way when it comes to women’s fashion. I’m not listening. I have always been an M&S girl and from where I am sitting, they are consistently brilliant. Look at this sunglasses print dress? It’s marvelous! It’s on trend! It’s under £50! I will defend them UNTIL THE END! (bit of poetry for you there). Although I’m still waiting for a Percy Pig print dress. Sort it out, guys.
*update* currently showing as out of stock
Screw you, pineapples! There’s a massive lemon print on the block and it’s brilliant. I often overlook Banana Republic but they have got some fantastic pieces in at the moment!
Ah, we love a bit of Weekend Doll here at She and Hem so I was very excited to see their new collection pop up this week. This yellow puppy (!) dress, with it’s super cute print, is my favourite. It’s also got a whacking great bow on the back. Winner.
One of my favourite ever Double Thumbs Dresses is from 20th Century Foxy, so it’s nice to see them back with this bangin’ red stripe shirt dress. It’s even got hidden pockets. Dreamy.
My goodness, Matalan can be totally amazing. This perfect pastel pink floral shift dress is a tenner! A tenner!
Last up this week is this lovely floral tea dress from Peacocks. I love the shape and the pattern but the thing that truly seals the deal for me is that adorable Peter-Pan collar. You can’t really argue with that price-tag either.
Hello and welcome to our roundup of the dresses deemed worthy of the highly coveted She and Hem Double Thumbs seal of approval. As promised, this week we have an all singing, all dancing double Double Thumbs with this second installment being a prom dress special! Wahoo! We shall go to the ball!
We begin with this beautiful pastel and metallic (two trends in one you say? tick tick!) Fever dress which is available from Rivers and Roads. This particular beauty has actually just arrived through my letter box so will no doubt be appearing in a post soon! I couldn’t wait to share it with you though as it’s just so pretty! The pastel hues combined with the sparkly fabric gives a lovely shimmery effect and one which is perfect for spring/summer parties.
You could inject a bit of floral fancy into your prom with this big bold and beautiful dress from the ever wonderful Louche, from Joy. This capped sleeve dress is gorgeous and is a decent length too. It would also look bloomin’ marvelous with a petticoat!
I’m not sure if I can adequately describe how much I love this ASOS* dress and I’m clearly not alone as it keeps whizzing in and out of stock (at the time of writing it’s currently unavailable but persevere if you’ve got you heart set on it). I want to twirl in it and I want to twirl in it now.
I’m not usually one to fall for a strapless dress but there’s just something so classic and pretty about this River Island* number. I love the large stripes and how the pink and white complement one another. It’s all just a bit dreamy.
Oh my, this is pretty much pink perfection. Will you just look at that bow!? I don’t even care that I don’t have a ball to go to, this F&F* dress shall me mine! They currently appear to have knocked 30% off the £30 pricetag which makes it a total bargain! It would also make a pretty great bridesmaid dress, dontchathink?
We love a bit of Lady V London around here, so there was much cooing when they announced their new collection. I found it near impossible to choose a favourite but have plumped for this vintage peach and navy tea dress. LOVE.
This Hell Bunny dress from Aspire Style is super duper fun! The colour is fabulous, the spots are genius and the shape and style scream TO THE DANCE FLOOR.
I love this silhouette of this cotton Phase Eight dress. The colour and pattern are simply divine and who doesn’t love a tie belt?
And finally, if you’re looking for length then this stunning lace overlay dress from Little Mistress could well be the one. There’s so much beautiful detailing and the cowl back is quite frankly breathtaking. Plus it’s £45. As the kids say, Little Mistress you cray cray.
That’s all for this week! However, before I go I would like to say a massive MASSIVE thank you for nominating us for the Company Style Blogger Awards 2014. We have now officially been shortlisted in the Best Blogging Duo or Team category and it’s honestly a dream come true for us both. We are against some truly inspirational bloggers but if you would like to vote for us to win, please click the image below!
Do you own any dresses that are just so perfect for you that you can wear them again and again and never get bored? Well I certainly do, and would jubilee’ve it, this is one of those dresses! This remarkably jolly, vintage inspired River Island number features teeny soldiers, blue horses and marching bands all having a right royal knees up and I just love it! Jubilicious!
Even though the dress is pretty jazzy, it’s still very versatile. On this occasion the sun was shining and I was feeling adventurous, so I decided to throw on as many colours as I could and head out for some larks, ending with a glorious sunset (the perfect ready made filter!). The red cardigan from Just Blue* works wonders for this quirky pattern by bringing out the bunting and the union jacks, as do the white Matalan tights. Even though this was a casual outfit, I couldn’t resist bringing a little razzle-dazzle with my silver sandals from Topshop and my absolute favourite Boden* bag. You can call me Queen V…
