Double Thumbs Dresses #84

Hello hello! Welcome back to Double Thumbs Dresses, our roundup of the frocks we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted double thumbs seal of approval! Let’s crack on….

She and Hem | London Streets Dress £65 from Cath Kidston
London Streets Dress £65 from Cath Kidston

We are absolutely loving all of the new Cath Kidston pieces which are hitting their website at the moment. How gorgeous is this colourful London print? The little buses and taxis (which are set in front of a picture perfect London skyline) are so cute!

She and Hem | Banana Print Dress £44.50 by Aida Zak Simona from Collectif
Banana Print Dress £44.50 by Aida Zak Simona from Collectif

You should, quite rightly, be going bananas for this fruity frock from Collectif! It’s such a fun print and the big pleated skirt makes it extra ap-peeling. I have noticed it’s currently showing as OOS on the Collectif website but don’t worry, I haven’t slipped up, as it’s also available from both Thunderegg and Modcloth.

She and Hem | Midi Dress in Stripe £45 from ASOS
Midi Dress in Stripe £45 from ASOS

Who doesn’t love a jazzy stripe?! This snazzy ASOS number is oh so cheerful and perfect for the warmer months. I really love pink and red together so this is the perfect colour combo for me! I’m really diggin’ the shoes too.

She and Hem | Split-Neck Bell-Sleeve Dark Yellow Mini Dress £52 by Ecote Tyler from Urban Outfitters
Split-Neck Bell-Sleeve Dark Yellow Mini Dress £52 by Ecote Tyler from Urban Outfitters

I love this little vintage number from Urban Outfitters. It’s such a great mustard colour and the intricate print detail is just splendid. Yet again I’ve fallen for a dress with a bell sleeve but I’d need to be prepared to bare some skin as this frock has an open back. Yikes.

She and Hem | Rust And Brown Triangle Shirt Dress £26.60 (reduced - full price £35) from Dorothy Perkins
Rust And Brown Triangle Shirt Dress £26.60 (reduced – full price £35) from Dorothy Perkins

I think it’s time for a couple of bargains don’t you? The first is this delightful retro number from Dorothy Perkins. The print on this shirt dress is just fabulous and it’s ticking all my required Mad Men style boxes. A winner!

She and Hem | Cold Shoulder Floral Print Dress £16 from Matalan
Cold Shoulder Floral Print Dress £16 from Matalan

Matalan have got some lovely bits in at the moment but this yellow floral dress really stood out to me. I think it’s screaming out to be thrown in a suitcase and taken away somewhere hot and sunny! Time for me to book a holiday….sigh.

She and Hem | Bow Front Shirt Dress £65.00 by Sister Jane at ASOS
Bow Front Shirt Dress £65.00 by Sister Jane at ASOS

Last but not least we have this super pretty candy-floss pink dress from ASOS. Look at all those bows! It’s like a never ending present. So so cute!

Double Thumbs Dresses #59

Hello frock fans and welcome back to Double Thumbs Dresses. It’s time once again to take a gander at the dresses we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted Double Thumbs seal of approval. Let’s crack on!

Billie Goes to Town Gathered Dress £65 from Cath Kidston
Billie Goes to Town Gathered Dress £65 from Cath Kidston

We start with good ol’ Cath Kidston who have added an abundance of pretty to their website over the past couple of weeks. As always it’s the more novelty prints that I am drawn to with the gorgeous ‘Billie Goes to Town’ being my current favourite. How fun are those London illustrations? Hey look it’s London’s famous Big Ben, buses, and umm benches! Well, you get the idea. This new shape looks to be rather flattering and as someone who owns more than their fair share of CK frocks it’ll be nice to throw a different style into the mix!

Penguins Sleeveless Dress £65 from Cath Kidston
Penguins Sleeveless Dress £65 from Cath Kidston

PENGUINS! What more do you really need to know? Admittedly it feels a little weird to be lusting after a penguin print in July but seeing as I am currently wearing my fluffy dressing gown as it throws it down with rain outside I’m going to let Cath off. She clearly knows what she’s doing! I love this dress and whatever the weather should really p p p pick one up (sorry).

Cherry Pop Dress £65 from Sister Jane
Cherry Pop Dress £65 from Sister Jane

I think this might be a first time Double Thumbs appearance for the wonderful Sister Jane, which is odd as I spend an unnecessary amount of time drooling over their website!  How adorable is that sheer embroidered cherry print neckline? VERY is the correct answer. It’s very Zooey (which they have also pointed out) which is pretty much all I need to hear to convince me a dress should be mine!

Rising Flower Pinafore Dress £65 from Sister Jane
Rising Flower Pinafore Dress £65 from Sister Jane

The Sister Jane fun continues (may as well make up for lost time eh?) with this stunning suede pinafore dress which features a fantastic retro daisy smack bang in the middle of it. I feel this would make a welcome addition to my ‘suitable to whack a jazzy blouse under’ arsenal and is it just me or does it have a bit of an Orla Kiely vibe to it?

It’s also available from ASOS

Striped Bell Sleeve Dress £46 from Topshop
Striped Bell Sleeve Dress £46 from Topshop

I really do seem to be getting set for Autumn/Winter don’t I? Oops! Sorry, Summer! I can’t help it though when super 70s stripy numbers like these are made available. This little Topshop beauty also has sleeves and pockets! My favourite combo.

Floral Print High-Neck Dress £21 from Forever 21
Floral Print High-Neck Dress £21 from Forever 21

Everything about this floral Forever 21 dress is a winner for me. I actually bought a blouse in Zara recently which looks exactly like the top half of this frock (Instagram evidence) because I just loved the Victorian style neckline so darn much. This dress probably costs less than the top did! Dreamy.

Checked Smock Dress £35 from Limited Edition at Marks and Spencer
Checked Smock Dress £35 from Limited Edition at Marks and Spencer

Will I ever stop being obsessed with M&S? If my Mum is anything to go by it’s actually only going to get worse. Sorry in advance, bank balance. My latest dress crush is this navy check smock dress that just looks so cosy and easy to wear that I actually feel more comfortable just looking at it. I’m really enjoying this 70s sleeve style at the moment too. More of this sort of thing please.

Cheerful Cherry Bow Dress £149 from Ted Baker
Cheerful Cherry Bow Dress £149 from Ted Baker

Last but not least we have this cherry print dress from Ted Baker which claims to be cheerful but surely nobody is ever left that happy after spending £149, Ted. Sort it out. Regardless, this dress is ticking all the right boxes with those fabulous black bows down the front, that fruity print, and those lovely long sleeves.
