In April you may remember we featured a couple of gorgeous dresses from Carousel, a brand we have become big fans of since we became aware of them last year. Luckily for us, they have just released a new collection which we are both completely smitten with. We wanted a really special background to shoot these pieces, so we braved the temperamental English weather, jumped into the She and Hem party bus, and zipped over to Tyntesfield in North Somerset and became one with the beautiful blooms. If you haven’t been to Tyntesfield and are ever in the area, do pop by!

I (Victoria) am completely in love with the Olivia Boat Dress. The colour is quite an unusual red/orange, but it’s absolutely stunning and is surprisingly versatile! I’ve not worn many full length sleeve dresses, but I’m definitely going to start, as this felt like such a nice alternative style. It’s possibly a little shorter than I would usually go for, but I feel that if I team it with flats or boots, I won’t scare too many people with my whiter than white legs! For this post I chose my current faves, the Keira Boots from Boden, which are currently half price. My sunglasses are these cat eye beauties from ASOS.

We are both obviously feeling shirt dresses at the moment. Jo’s dreamy Lucille Dress is a must purchase for any vintage fan. The 3/4 length sleeves and pleated skirt create such a flattering silhouette and would help take the dress from day to night time. The pattern is the sweetest and the colours really pop IRL! Pretty impressive right? Jo accessorised this floral number with tan boots from New Look (similar here) and went all matchy matchy with a ravishing red belt from ASOS and Moschino sunglasses combo from TK Maxx. See you for the next collection Carousel!

Painted City Circus

We’ve already blogged (and vlogged!) about our time at the beautiful Bristol Balloon Fiesta but with a back drop like that it would have been unacceptable blogger behavior not to have taken some outfit photos whilst we were there! As luck would have it, the lovely Emily and Fin kindly sent us a few pieces from their stunning new Autumn Winter collection to style and we couldn’t resist taking them for a spin.

The new collection features so many beautiful new prints and shapes but we were both equally blown away by the vibrant colours of the Painted City Circus print. It’s so much fun with skyscrapers, bridges, Big Ben and the Statue of Liberty all jostling for position! I (Jo) went for the print in the Ruby dress* which is a longer style and features a scooped neckline, fitted waist and a super flattering box pleated full skirt. I accessorised with a simple yellow belt, yellow Orla Kiely for Clarks shoes (have you seen the new collection? our bank balances are already terrified) and my go-to red heart sunglasses.

Victoria opted for the Florence skirt* which has an incredibly lovely curved waistband which really makes it sit nicely. As a couple of dress fans, it has totally converted us! She teamed it with the yellow polka-dot Edna top*, which is the perfect match for this print, nude sandals from New Look and round ASOS sunglasses. One of our favourite things about Emily and Fin is that they always do a good pocket and the new collection is no exception! We can also confirm that both styles are perfect for twirling in.

A big thank you to Emily and Fin for sending us these stunning outfits. We really can’t decide if we prefer the dress or the skirt! What do you think?

Into the bluebell woods

I hope you all had a joyous long weekend! I spent most of my time eating, drinking and indulging in total Eurovision madness but somehow I also managed to find some time for a little bit of nature when I took a trip to nearby Prior’s Wood! You might say I’m combating the post bank holiday blues with some post bank holiday bluebells! That totally works, right?

Oh gosh, it’s so pretty isn’t it? I do love this time of year and it’s always wonderful to find a hidden gem on your doorstop. Prior’s Wood is only a 20 minute drive away from Clifton in Bristol and even when the bluebells aren’t in season there’s still so much to admire whilst taking a stroll around this ancient woodland. I’m particularly excited about their Autumn ‘fungus foray’. A date for the diary indeed.

I’ll admit that I wasn’t  planning on being in front of the camera when I left for this particular field trip so I didn’t put any makeup on! THE HORROR! However once I saw all the gorgeous bluebells I couldn’t help but get my pose on! On a completely unrelated note, you”ll notice that most of these pictures involve a lot of soft focus and/or no trace of my face. What are the chances?

How did you spend your bank holiday?

Have you been looking for some fabulous (yet affordable!) vintage pieces to jazz up your wardrobe, without a moth ball in sight? Well, look no further dear, stylish reader! Let us introduce you to the wonderful Thirty 8 Birds over at ASOS Marketplace. You are most welcome.

Considering I (Victoria) am completely obsessed with ASOS, I’m quite embarrassed that it has taken me this long to seriously explore ASOS Marketplace. Now that I have, I’m completely hooked. With 800 boutiques selling new and vintage items from around the world, I will never have to leave the house to go shopping again. Hopefully Jo will agree my proposal to rename the blog She and Hermit.

Jo wore white vintage 90’s dungarees with black polka-dots, black tights from UK Tights and a mustard top from Marks and Spencer. She accessorised with flat black boots from Topshop, heart sunglasses from Moschino via TK Maxx and one of the best novelty bags I’ve ever seen (and I’m not just saying that because I bought it for her…) from Next, which is also available here. In true She and Hem style, we decided to go a little matchy matchy, so I wore monochrome gingham dungarees, which are still available here, with black tights from UK Tights. My white chunky heels were an awesome ASOS bargain and my coordinating polka-dot sunglasses are from Primark.

On the short walk home from the shoot we found the perfect place to sit, have a quick catch up, throw blossom at each other and think of the perfect quote for the Tombola’s True Friendship feature, and here is what we came up with!

The Great Wall (and some china)

She and Hem | Lifestyle | Homeware

Now for something slightly different. Here at She & Hem towers, our primary passion is blogging  about fashion. Writing, reading, oggling Cara Delevigne, you know the drill. However, if I’m honest, I’ve recently found that I like reading lifestyle posts just as much. I love hearing about holidays and weekends away, exciting events, and of course, admiring certain cakey creations. However, my absolute favourite kind of blog posts are all things interior inspiration and homeware hauls, because I just love STUFF. So I thought I’d give it a little go myself, one room at a time!

Buying a house can be a really moving experience…. I’ve been such a busy bee, that I haven’t even held a house swarming party yet! Sorry for those puns, they didn’t really bring down the house, did they? Anyway, a few months ago I moved into a new flat and ever since I’ve had lots of ideas about what I want it to look like. After learning how to put up shelves, prune the shrubbery and build a wall (!!), I thought it was about time to pop my overalls on and tackle wallpapering. Unfortunately, I’ve simply been too lazy busy, and as Handy Andy wasn’t available, I just asked (*cough*) the OH to do it.

Luckily for the both of us, you don’t need awesome DIY skills to do this job, as with Superfresco Easy wallpaper, you paste the wall and not the paper. This made for some hassle and mess free decorating. Pretty innovative stuff! After too much browsing I picked what I consider to be the best wallpaper ever, the 1970’s inspired Ponder by Graham and Brown from Superfresco Easy.* I am quite indecisive, so spent a good few days pondering (ha!) between Ponder and Tower. It’s a big, bold and rather jazzy pattern, making for quite the feature wall. I’d love to know if you think I have made the right choice!
