She and Hem | London Streets Dress £65 from Cath Kidston
London Streets Dress £65 from Cath Kidston

We are absolutely loving all of the new Cath Kidston pieces which are hitting their website at the moment. How gorgeous is this colourful London print? The little buses and taxis (which are set in front of a picture perfect London skyline) are so cute!

She and Hem | Banana Print Dress £44.50 by Aida Zak Simona from Collectif
Banana Print Dress £44.50 by Aida Zak Simona from Collectif

You should, quite rightly, be going bananas for this fruity frock from Collectif! It’s such a fun print and the big pleated skirt makes it extra ap-peeling. I have noticed it’s currently showing as OOS on the Collectif website but don’t worry, I haven’t slipped up, as it’s also available from both Thunderegg and Modcloth.

She and Hem | Midi Dress in Stripe £45 from ASOS
Midi Dress in Stripe £45 from ASOS

Who doesn’t love a jazzy stripe?! This snazzy ASOS number is oh so cheerful and perfect for the warmer months. I really love pink and red together so this is the perfect colour combo for me! I’m really diggin’ the shoes too.

She and Hem | Split-Neck Bell-Sleeve Dark Yellow Mini Dress £52 by Ecote Tyler from Urban Outfitters
Split-Neck Bell-Sleeve Dark Yellow Mini Dress £52 by Ecote Tyler from Urban Outfitters

I love this little vintage number from Urban Outfitters. It’s such a great mustard colour and the intricate print detail is just splendid. Yet again I’ve fallen for a dress with a bell sleeve but I’d need to be prepared to bare some skin as this frock has an open back. Yikes.

She and Hem | Rust And Brown Triangle Shirt Dress £26.60 (reduced - full price £35) from Dorothy Perkins

I think it’s time for a couple of bargains don’t you? The first is this delightful retro number from Dorothy Perkins. The print on this shirt dress is just fabulous and it’s ticking all my required Mad Men style boxes. A winner!

She and Hem | Cold Shoulder Floral Print Dress £16 from Matalan

Matalan have got some lovely bits in at the moment but this yellow floral dress really stood out to me. I think it’s screaming out to be thrown in a suitcase and taken away somewhere hot and sunny! Time for me to book a holiday….sigh.

Last but not least we have this super pretty candy-floss pink dress from ASOS. Look at all those bows! It’s like a never ending present. So so cute!

Dainty Tights £10 by Jonathon Aston from Topshop/MyTights
Dainty Tights £10 by Jonathon Aston from Topshop/MyTights

We LOVE nude polka-dot tights (as is evidenced by the fact we wear them in nearly every outfit post) but they can be rather elusive. I was therefore very excited to find this pair from Jonathan Aston on the Topshop website which feature polka-dots in different shades of blue! Woo! They only have Size M left but these beauts are also available at the brilliant MyTights (who actually have them discounted to £8.50 atm).

Avocado Hairties £8 from Topshop

AvocaWOAH would you look at those! Topshop have got some seriously fun hair accessories going on at the moment but I couldn’t resist this fitting tribute to everyone’s favourite Instagramable fruit.

Blimey! These ASOS boots are pretty ridiculous right? I think we’d all be a lot happier if we each owned a pair of these shoes. It’s like a party for your feet!

FYI this party also comes in a BLACK GLITTERY VERSION OMG.

Black Telephone Dial Bag £20 from Rare
Black Telephone Dial Bag £20 from Rare

If you’re a novelty bag fan (hi) then you may be pleased to discover that Rare have got a lot of super affordable ones on their website – including cassette tapes, lips and even a Russian doll. How fab is this telephone affair though? The little ‘I Love To Hear The Sound Of Your Voice’ detail is too cute. Love!

We love a bit of Sugarhill Boutique here at She and Hem (*spoiler alert* there’s a new style post coming soon!) so I was very happy to find this John Lewis exclusive. Who doesn’t love a good zebra or 12? Such a good print and love that it’s cut to the knee.

Accessories to Murder #21 Valentine’s Day Special

Hello and welcome to the 21st Accessories to Murder! Pop the fizz and celebrate, we are 21 today! Not only that, but we are focusing on all things Valentine’s Day this week AND I’ve found the perfect pair of pink heart tights! Are you ready to delve into the world of amazing cupidly good accessories? Excellent! Without further ado, here are the accessories that have made it onto this week’s She and Hem’s Most Wanted.

Accessories to Murder | She and Hem | Valentine's Day | Heart Earrings
Glitter Heart Earrings | £12.50 | Topshop

Let’s ear it for these glitter heart earrings from good ol’ Topshop. Perfect for the love of your life to gaze upon admiringly whilst whispering sweet nothings into your ear. Planning a night in this V-Day? Never fear, these beauties are cool enough to be worn all year round. J’adore Topshop!

Accessories to Murder | She and Hem | Valentine's Day | Heart Socks
Fluffy Heart Ankle Socks | £3.50 | Topshop

If you, like me, are one of the few who don’t have their ears pierced, Topshop (them again) have us covered. Hoorah! They have really put their hearts into creating these cute ankle socks. If you fall out of love with them, you can always take them to the sock exchange.

Accessories to Murder | She and Hem | Valentine's Day | Heart Watch
Red Strap Heart Dial Watch | £40.00 | Oasis

Girl, you know what time it is. It’s time to head to Oasis to crush on their new accessories, of course! Time really flies when you’ve got a watch this fancy. Just look at that heart shaped dial *swoons*. The gracious gold and ravishing red are a match made in analog heaven. Just watch out for all the compliments.

Accessories to Murder | She and Hem | Valentine's Day | Heart Jumper
Truly Madly Deeply Love Weekend Jumper | £39 | Urban Outfitters

It’s now time to honor my one true love, the weekend! This vintage washed weekend jumper from Urban Outfitters looks perfect for snuggling up on the sofa, and the gorgeous embroidery ensure that it’s totally acceptable to team it with jeans and head out to celebrate just how great the weekend is. Now, I don’t mean Canadian singer, songwriter and producer The Weeknd, although I’m reliably informed that he’s quite good too.

Accessories to Murder | She and Hem | Valentine's Day | Heart Tights
Sheer Luxe Heart Tights | £22 | American Apparel

You’ll look so perfect standing there in these American Apparel underwear heart tights!  I’ve got so many pairs of black heart tights, but I’ve never been able to find a pair with pink hearts on, so I’m pretty stoked about these gems. Eat your heart out competitors, I’ll be heading to American Apparel for all of my tights needs this season!

Accessories to Murder | She and Hem | Valentine's Day | Heart Bag
Heart Cross Body Bag | £26 | Skinnydip via Selfridges

Whilst on my long search for the dreamiest heart shaped bag, there were many strong contenders. Primark have an excellent black sparkly version, as featured on our Instagram last week, but it is Skinnydip’s heart bag that wins the coveted final place on She and Hem’s Most Wanted this week. Although this is quite plain for Skinnydip, if you want a subtle nod to Valentine’s Day without going OTT (like I probably will be), then I think this is The One.

Until next week, keep accessorizing!

River Fish Cotton Dress with Shirred Waist £60 by Cath Kidston
River Fish Cotton Dress with Shirred Waist £60 by Cath Kidston
River Fish Mono Cotton Beach Dress £55 from Cath Kidston
River Fish Mono Cotton Beach Dress £55 from Cath Kidston

Oh my cod, things are certainly getting a bit cray cray at Cath Kidston HQ thanks to their delightful new river inspired prints! As a self-confessed CK addict, I have naturally fallen hook, line and sinker for all things underwater! I am loving the colourful fish number with its shirred waist (as seen on the cloud dress) but how beautiful does the blue and white sundress look? I think Summer 2015 is going to be the time and plaice for fishy fashion!

Honolulu Print Prom Dress £59.50 from Oliver Bonas
Honolulu Print Prom Dress £59.50 from Oliver Bonas

Surfs up! I love this fab new Hawaiian inspired prom dress from Oliver Bonas, which has a gorgeous pastel pallet and features some very lovely surfers riding the waves. I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be accessoried with sunglasses, a beach and a Pina Colada. That’s what I’ll be doing anyway.

Iris Shirt Dress in Red Graphic Geo £79 from Boden
Iris Shirt Dress in Red Graphic Geo £79 from Boden

I am all about shirt dresses at the moment and this 1950’s inspired number from Boden is ticking all the rights boxes. That geo print is just retro heaven and the whole thing just looks fantastically flattering. I would happily trot into work in this first thing and then head straight out for drinks in it come 5. Living the dream…

Gretal Stripe Sundress £55 by Louche from Joy
Gretal Stripe Sundress £55 by Louche from Joy

This is possibly the most cheerful dress I’ve ever seen but, gosh darn it, who doesn’t love a bright, multi-coloured chevron dress? It also has super deep pockets so you can store extra sunglasses for your friends to borrow when they realise they can’t look directly at you. Excellent summer dress work, Louche.

How Sweet Cactus Dress in White £45 by Somedays Lovin' from Urban Outfitters
How Sweet Cactus Dress in White £45 by Somedays Lovin’ from Urban Outfitters

I didn’t know the cactus was able to look so pretty but Australian brand Somedays Lovin’ have created this super lovely print featuring a whole prickly bunch of them! I really love the laid back style of this dress and look forward to floating around in it on a hot day (did someone say something about a beach and a pina colada?).

Wild at Heart Dress £55 from There's Only One Amy Laws
Wild at Heart Dress £55 from There’s Only One Amy Laws

We always adore anything by Amy Laws and this 1950’s style floral affair is no exception! The dusky blue colour of the dress is gorgeous and who doesn’t want foxgloves growing around their hemline?

Dolores Doll Atomic Flamingo Print Dress £60 from Collectif
Dolores Doll Atomic Flamingo Print Dress £60 from Collectif

I thought the pom poms of last week were possibly going to be my Double Thumbs Dresses highlight of the year but here I find myself typing the words ‘atomic flamingo print’ and now I not so sure! This Collectif dress is brilliantly bonkers and features an array of watermelons, bannanas, pineapples and ummm ATOMIC FLAMINGOS (??!!). It might be the best thing I’ve ever seen.

Bristol Fashion Week SS15

Bristol Fashion Week Spring/Summer 15 | She and Hem | Bristol

The red carpet has been rolled out in Bristol this week for the return of the South West’s largest fashion event, Bristol Fashion Week at The Mall. Thousands of stylish Bristolians will be strutting over to The Mall to catch one of the 17 catwalk shows, hosted by Lucy Watson from Made in Chelsea and Lorraine Kelly’s BFF/TV stylist Mark Heyes. This year the show has a travel theme, with the entrance of the purpose built pavilion styled as an airport departure lounge and each store has put together a cool collection of on-trend looks, based on gap years, summer holidays and safari chic.

We flew in on Wednesday night and, in true She and Hem style, were the last to board flight S/S15, with a one way ticket to the land of denim, swish 70’s and our personal favourite, brights. We saw so many outfits, the Bristol Fashion Week tailor must be swift. His career will certainly take off!

After the show, we had a stop over at M&S in The Mall to check out the new Limited Edition collection, hang out with lovely local bloggers and eat ALL of the cheese. I (Victoria) fell in love with the Paisley Print Dress that Lily is beautifully modelling below and Jo’s yellow M&S Limited Edition No Peep Dress was certainly first class! In addition to her gorgeous M&S dress, Jo wore brown beads (old) also from M&S, spotty tights from UK Tights, Urban Outfitters boots and her Kate Spade bag. I wore a vintage 1970’s dress from Portobello Road with my brown Orla Kiely for Clarks heels and black tights from UK Tights. My belt is from New Look and black floppy hat from ASOS. We both accessoried with M&S flowers!

Hello!

We are only two days in to January and I am already struggling to contain my willpower when it comes to the sales. After indulging so much over Christmas, it always seems crazy to splurge on new things in the New Year but with so many massive discounts around it can be very hard to resist. I’ve rounded up my current wish-list and will be keeping a beady eye out for further reductions. Those of you who follow us on Instagram will know that I have already caved and bought the Topshop shoes! So shiny.

Putting the Win in Winter: Coats

Hey Hemsters,

If you are anything like us, you have spent the past week despairing at the weather. You leave the house in your big coat, tights, and boots and by lunchtime you are kicking yourself for not packing your sunglasses as you sweat uncomfortably at the bus stop. Or maybe that’s just us. Picking the correct coat for the day ahead is currently nothing short of traumatic (overstatement?) but one thing is for sure, coats are back! Hooray! There are a lot of lovely ones appearing on the high-street at the moment so we have gathered together our favs!

Red Bow Coat £79 from Miss Selfridge

We tweeted about this little beauty a couple of weeks ago! Look at those bows! NEED.

Dog Quilt Bomber Jacket £50 from Topshop

It probably won’t see you through those cold winter months but this dog print jacket will certainly look pretty darn cool in the meantime.

Coat with Gathering on the Shoulder £99.99 from Zara

The future is bright after all and, if you believe the magazines, orange is set to be a big colour this season! This coat is sharp, chic and zesty.

Oversized Check Coat £75 from Next

Now THIS is a winter coat. We could quite happily hibernate in this snugly affair.

Double Thumbs Dresses #10

Goodness me! It’s time for our weekly round up of all those lovely dresses that receive the highly coveted She and Hem Double Thumbs Up seal of approval.

Comic Adventure Mini Dress £80 by Joyrich from ASOS

KAPOW! This super fun Joyrich dress from ASOS makes me want to embrace my inner superhero (It’s Thumbage Girl, for those who are asking)  and sort out the most dastardly of crimes. Crimes of fashion that is, I’m not crazy.

Carmine Dress £34 (was £69) by Louche from Fox and Feather

This little beauty of a Louche dress is currently on sale (with all sizes currently showing as in stock) at Fox and Feather, yippee! It’s made from an absolutely beautiful shimmering fabric which really makes the greens and pinks stand out. It has a great high neckline but beware underwear fans, it does plunge at the back.

Penny Babydoll Dress in Spearmint Daisy Applique £40 from Motel

This beautiful vintage inspired dress from Motel is available in this rather refreshing spearmint colour. I really love the pretty floral applique, it makes the dress so dainty. For me this is the perfect holiday dress as I know I could throw it with sandals and head to the beach but it would work just as well at home with tights, boots and a trip to the pub. Anyone know where I can find a beach pub?

Yellow Floral Print Dress £39.95 (was £79.95) from Joules

Oh Joules, this dress is a bit perfect! I adore the flattering 50’s cut and the colour and print are just dreamy. It’s on sale at the moment and getting hold of certain sizes might be a trifle tricky. The good news is I have noticed sizes coming back into stock so it’s worth checking the website, as well as in store.

Cream Tapestry V-Neck Tea Dress £22.99 from New Look

I can’t be the only person who has noticed how completely fabulous New Look has been recently? This gorgeous vintage style tapestry dress is a prime example of the sort of beautiful piece they are putting out for the budget conscious shopper, i.e everyone. I love the thick, expensive looking fabric and the pretty floral print.

Perdita Floral Smock Dress £55 from Lashes of London

Pass me a fan, I might need a little lie down! The colours of this dress are simply out of this world, they are just stunning. Lashes of London are so great at putting out creative, unique and beautiful items. I love love love the neckline, the lovely turn up sleeves and of course the big, bold floral print. Well done, everyone.

Skater Dress With Pug Print £25 from ASOS

Never one to shy away from a novelty print, this pug print dress from ASOS ticks all the right boxes. You’d be barking mad not to love it!  I love the flattering shape and the fun print, and better still the easy-wear jersey fabric means it’s a great holiday buy as it won’t crease in the suitcase! Winner!

Contrast Collar Dress in Tile Print £48 by Cooperative from Urban Outfitters

Welcome to the 60’s, courtesy of Cooperative at Urban Outfitters. I love the quirky print, which definitely has a touch of the kaleidoscope about it and the contrast of the deep red with the crisp white colour is rather lovely.  It’s a loose fit, so perhaps won’t suit everyone but if you like a retro shape then this one is a winner.

That’s all for this week!

She and Home: Multiple Sclerosis Fundraiser

Jump2

One of She and Hem’s favourite people in the whole world is a lady called Deesha Mondair (above on the right), who decided to do something extra special for her 21st birthday and hold a charity fundraiser for Multiple Sclerosis, a condition which affects around 100,000 people in the UK.

Aww

FeetWoT

After making the decision to hold the fundraiser, she hired the beautiful Westbury on Trym Village Hall in Bristol and then set about achieving her vision. Over the past few months, with the help of family and friends, she has written to countless businesses in order to put together the greatest raffle in the history of raffles, bought food, made cakes, collected a lot of jams jars and gathered together all the props required! There was a lot of planning involved in putting this all together but her boundless enthusiasm for the party has been completely infectious! She even hand typed every single invitation on her trusty typewriter, Dorothy!

Invite

We got off to a little bit of a bumpy start, as after setting everything up, we were told that the hall had in fact been double booked and that we would have to cancel the party! As it was due to start in under an hour (and was for charity!) we managed to convince the hall to let the party go ahead! It was touch and go though and all rather uncomfortable! A few much needed hugs were given to Deesha, Gins were drunk and the frivolity duly commenced.

FlagsJarsVT

On arrival, every guest was treated to a jam jar of Pimms, complete with novelty straw. There is just something so delightfully wonderful about drinking out of a jam jar! They were a real hit. I was on door duty with the wonderful Kelly and we dutifully waved our welcoming flags and shook our collection buckets (which appear to have morphed into Gin & Tonics) with gusto. We had so much fun and it was so lovely to meet all of the people who had come to support Deesha.

Prizes2Raffle3

One of the absolute hits of the night was most definitely the raffle extraordinaire! As I said above, Deesha wrote to lots of local (and a couple of not so local) companies and boy oh boy did they do us proud! People were extremely generous and it just shows what you can achieve if you put your mind to it. I think we were all bowled over by the support and everyone who donated deserves a special thank you! Prizes on offer included a cooking demonstration with Rick Stein, donated by one of my favourite places, Topping Booksellers in Bath; a £60 gift voucher for Bristol Sewing School, £30 of gift vouchers from Thali Cafe and an absolutely beautiful collection of bags (which I’ve totted up to be worth well over £100) from Sew Lomax

Pirzes1Raffle2Raffle

There were also treats from San Francisco Fudge Factory, Vintage Notebook, Elsie Belle (who donated two of her wonderful swallow necklaces), The Robin Hood pub, Jewellery by Jaymie (who donated a gorgeous french fries necklace and daisy collar clips!) , Bristol Beer Factory, Severn Cider and Rhubarb and Squirrel cards. As well all those goodies there were also free tickets and vouchers from Bath Bun Tea Shoppe, Paradise Cakes, The Birdcage, The Relaxation Centre, The Watershed, The Bath Comedy Walk and the Bath Fashion Museum.

FlowershijinksCakes

Ooer

For this most special of occasions, Victoria and I decided to wear two different balloon print dresses from Modcloth, that we have been salivating over for quite some time! They are both SO MUCH FUN and we had an absolutely fabulous time wearing them for the first time. Both dresses are former Double Thumbs entries (Victoria’s from #1 and Jo’s from #7) and they are certainly worthy of the accolade. I wore my red balloon print dress with my white Topshop geek shoes and kept my accessories to a minimum with little yellow star earrings and a red bow in my hair. Victoria wore her smiley hot air balloon print dress with a gorgeous silver bunting necklace from Miss Selfridge.

Propsj PhotoProps2

Now that Deesha has finished party planning, I think she should go into business as a professional prop maker as all of the wonderful props (minus the sombreros!) were made by her fair hands. We certainty had a great time messing around with them!

As well as rocking some very trendy red lips,  Kelly wore a zesty orange dress from Miss Selfridge, purple shoes from Red Herring at Debenhams, a gold turtle belt from ASOS and an Urban Outfitters watch. Ellie went for the must have accessory of the season in the form a of healthy mustache and teamed it with a gorgeous dress from Primark and a lovely blazer from H&M.

Dancing

The night was a great success and raised over £700! Amazing! And the money is still coming in! Well done, Deesha and a very happy 21st birthday to you! I shall sign off with a wonderful photo of Deesha and her Grandparents, who had flown over from Ireland especially for the party. The birthday girl wore a spectacular dress from Lady V London and paired it with shoes from Pavers!
