Ever wanted to see us fight over a bunch of red roses? It’s your lucky day! It’s finally February and now officially acceptable to start dressing in all things Valentine related. Yippee! Break out your hearts, roses and stupid cupid accessories -it’s time to get soppy guys. These new Valentine’s dresses from Emily and Fin will be more than just a February fling! Thanks to their fab prints, summer appropriate cuts and pockets (for all your love letters), we will be sporting these all year round! It’s true love.
If you hadn’t noticed, it’s flippin’ freezing (brrrr) at the moment but thankfully both the Scarlett Heart* and Bed of Roses* lend themselves to being paired with winter warmers. Victoria has teamed her ravishing red frock with a black cardigan from M&S, a black belt, polka-dot tights from UKTights* and black flats from F&F. I (Jo) have also embraced all things black (to match my heart – jokes) by layering my rosy number over a sparkly black thermal top from M&S, a black belt, tights from M&S and Topshop pumps. My glittery heart bag is from good ol’ Primark. The roses were a gift from a passing handsome stranger*
What are your plans for V-day?
*Not really. We bought them ourselves (sob).
This post was written in collaboration with Emily and Fin. Who we love all year round.
Hello and welcome to the 18th Accessories to Murder! It’s an UncommonGoods special this week! Are you ready to delve into the world of amazing accessories? Excellent! Without further ado, here are the accessories that have made it onto this week’s She and Hem’s Most Wanted.
I do love a bit of personalised jewellery. C’mon, who doesn’t love wearing their own name around their neck? In fact, there is super clever evidence that proves that our brains really like hearing our own names (it’s all about the left middle frontal cortex and subgyral matter, obviously). So I got quite excited when I saw that UncommonGoods has a whole blooming section dedicated to fun personalised bits, and that excitement Twin Peaked with this stump necklace. Embrace your inner log lady and proudly display your true love’s initials, just in time for Valentine’s Day!
If you’re not down with the lumberjack vibe, don’t log off, cause I’m switching it up to sexy Morse code. SOS indeed. I love the idea of carrying a hidden message around with me, that only the nerdiest of companions might understand. The necklace seen in the picture above shows a name, but I think it would be so lovely to choose an anniversary date or a favourite saying instead. Either way, they are so subtle and beautiful!
You may think it’s all colourful dresses and hilarious puns here at She and Hem, but we’re soppy types at heart. If you follow us on Instagram, you will know that I recently got married and that Jo was one of my wonderful bridesmaids. As a little thank you present, I bought each of my bridesmaids a necklace with the exact coordinates of where we first met, and (I think) they really loved them! UncommonGoods have their own beautiful version here.
Ring a ding-ding! Another item that is perfect for Valentine’s Day is this cute hand cast Forget Me Not ring. I am positively thread over heels about that delicate silver bow, and would definitely knot forget anyone kind enough to give me this. It’s so dainty and I think it would be ideal for stacking.
I couldn’t write a round up of my favourite pieces and not include this incredible scarf. I simply cannot resist those incredibly cute vintage style illustrations. Not only is it a unique accessory, but it has my new surname on it! Valentine’s Day has taken on a whole new meaning for me now and I’m probably definitely going to buy any novelty item of clothing with the word Valentine on it. So if you see anything, link me up please! Take a look at their immensely enjoyable scarf selection here.
This post is in collaboration with UncommonGoods, who we are very happy to work with as we love their environmentally friendly products, and that they are a bunch of jolly decent people. Keep up the good work guys!
Merry Monday everyone and welcome back to Double Thumbs Dresses, our weekly roundup of the frocks we have fallen head over heels for and deemed worthy of the highly coveted She and Hem Double Thumbs seal of approval. We’re seeing red this week as we prepare for nobody’s everyone’s favourite love-fest, Valentine’s Day. Crack out the violins….
We start our quest for the perfect red dress with a couple of hot contenders from Dickens & Jones at House of Fraser. I don’t believe I have stumbled across this brand before (insert your own what the Dickens joke here) but I must say it was love at first sight. Polka dots, bows and organza? Sign me up!
You can always depend on ASOS to set your heart a flutter (and clear out your bank balance in the process) with their seemingly endless supply of gorgeous dresses. This flouncy frock looks like it would be so much fun to wear and will surely provide you with the only cold shoulder you’ll receive on Valentine’s.
You’ll leave little option but to be swept off your feet after twirling the night away in this fab full-skirted fifties number from Lindy Bop, who have quite the red dress selection. Phwoar.
You’ll be a sight for sore eyelets in this beautiful red dress from Jack Wills! This is such a lovely frock and perfect for daytime wear too. That’s how I am going to justify buying it, anyway.
Glitter-bomb warning!* I am always in favour of an excuse to shimmy in sparkles and this Motel dress is one blingtastic bodycon showstopper.
*If you recognised this as a poor Theme Hospital joke then congratulations! You’re my new BFF
Finally we have two dresses that have actually previously appeared on Double Thumbs but are both so perfect for Valentine’s I’ve included them again. The Emily and Fin Yours Truly dress from Double Thumbs #49 is romance perfection and I’ve been crushing on that ASOS frock since the Double Thumbs Christmas Special. Now that it has been reduced, perhaps it will finally be mine……
Love is in the air today at She and Hem HQ, so as a Valentine’s gift to you, here are the accessories that have got me feeling smitten. If I had these accessories in my life, every day would be Valentine’s Day! Apologies that it’s only a brief round up today, everything has gone a little London Fashion Week crazy over here! I assure you, full service will be resumed next time.
