I know we bang on about Bristol and Gromit quite a lot. Hands up, we’re guilty. But, hey, we cant help it if our city is aces. This summer it managed to outdo itself in its impressiveness with the Gromit trail! You can catch up with our various canine shenanigans here but for now let’s focus on today. For today is a big day, a momentous day, for our fair city. Today is the day that we auction off and say a final farewell to our beloved Gromits.
Last week I was one of the lucky folk who braved the queues and went to see all 81 (they added an extra one for the exhibition!) under one woof. It was a glorious sight and well worth the 2 hour wait.
For 10 weeks they delighted the young and old and, perhaps more importantly, for one day they annoyed the saps at the Daily Mail, who clearly have no joy in their hearts.
Aren’t they beautiful? I could upload 10 photos for each Gromit and still not do them justice. It’s crazy how much detail and work has gone into them.
Later on today they will go under the hammer in a bid to raise money for Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal, which supports sick children and their families at Bristol Children’s Hospital. Take that in will you. What an incredible incredible thing. If you happen to be a millionaire, please please please throw all of your money this way.
You can live stream the auction here from 7.30pm. I’ll be watching, tissues in hand, in the hope that they raise more money than they ever thought possible. Cracking job, lad.
