As it’s Wimbledon time once again, we thought we’d go and cause a right old racket in the woods and serve you up some trendy tennis realness. If you are a hawk eyed reader, you may have seen these fabulous frocks on the blog before. While my (Victoria) little green number* from Emily and Fin is sadly no longer available, you can find Jo’s 1950’s inspired beauty* here, from our friends at Carousel. Strawberries and Pimms all round!
Minimal accessories looked a solid ten out of ten-is for these looks. My yellow sandals are from M&S (they are so comfortable that I have them in three colours) and my panama hat* is from Laura Ashley. It actually first featured on the blog in 2015. So much has changed around here since then, but I’m still loving that hat! Those awesome square ombre sunglasses* are an ace from She and Hem favs Joanie and have recently been reduced to £5! Finally, Jo’s super fun pencil shoes* are from Cath Kidston and her glasses were a gift. Groovy moves and sassy poses all her own.
Hope you’re all enjoying this grand slam weather! See you on the courts.
A couple of weeks ago we were both lucky enough to attend a beautiful wedding up North with our families. We had such a lovely time on the happy couple’s very special day and it was great fun getting all dressed up with the girls. We must admit, however, that we did have a slight wardrobe based panic the month beforehand as it dawned on us that we had to find not one but two wedding guest dresses that were not only all weather appropriate but also fully toddler proof! A challenge indeed! Luckily our friends at Joanie were on hand to save the day with their fabulous frocks, phew!
I (Victoria) wore the Celia Polka Dot Tea Dress*, which is now in the sale for a mere £26.60. Joanie really know how to do end of season sales! There are so many bargains on there at the moment. The sunshine yellow dress is fun, feminine and hella flattering, which means I was really able to take advantage of the vol-au-vents and gin bar.
Jo wore the Sunday Floral Stripe Sun Dress* and the Ilona Crochet Stitch Cardigan which a lot like the bride and groom, were a match made in heaven. Aww. She wore a petticoat underneath which really made the dress pop! My gold block heels were from ASOS and Jo’s awesome pink flats are Orla Kiely for Clarks. A collaboration we sorely miss!
We are happy to confirm that both dresses made it through the day without any little fingers smearing food or spilling drink on them. A true success story!
Bonjour & Aloha! If you are a regular reader or follow us on Instagram then you’re probably already well aware of our love for the wonderful world of Joanie. Their vintage-inspired fun fashion is right up our rue (little bit of GCSE French from the late 90s for you there). We are both big fans of their colourful dresses, novelty knits and, most importantly, their real inclusive vibe. Hell yeah. Check out their #joaniegals hashtag on Instagram and get ready to want all of the pretty things, we certainly do.
We’ve styled a couple of their cute slogan jumpers recently and they have been really popular, with so many people asking where they were from! We’re all about spreading the Joanie love! Which is super handy as we are teaming up with them in February to show their Instagram followers Bristol’s best bits and we can’t wait. We often feature our favourite parts of our colourful city on the blog (Bristol Archives here) and we’ve already begun discussing everything we want to show off to the Joanie gang, there is just so much good stuff to see. Roll on February and make sure to keep an eye on their stories.
Hello hello! Welcome back to Double Thumbs Dresses, our roundup of the frocks we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted double thumbs seal of approval! You can blame pregnancy for the reason it has been a while since our last DT but I’ve seen so many AMAZING dresses this week that it felt rude not to dust off the old keyboard. Apologies in advance to your bank balance! Let’s crack on…
It’s raining cats and dogs at Cath Kidston HQ and this novelty print lover couldn’t be happier! Those colourful pups are perfection and are sure to leave people hounding you for style tips whenever you wear it! And how cute are those kitties? The retro collar is just puuurrrfect and I love the blue and white combo. The only bone I’ve got to pick is how I’m going to afford both!

Spoiler alert! This gorgeous Emily and Fin frock is going to be appearing in an upcoming style post but I simply couldn’t leave my favourite festive frock out of Double Thumbs. I absolutely adore this dress! Who doesn’t want to be festooned with festoon lights? Gorgeous!
Yes to absolutely everything about this M&S dress! It’s gold, it’s shiny, it’s got sleeves, ruffles and a big ol’ Christmas bow. I am sold!
As a librarian, I was always going to need this novel frock from Joanie and despite being 38 weeks pregnant I may have made a cheeky purchase! I look forward to fitting into it one day! I just couldn’t resist those glorious book shelves. What a fab print.
Hooray! It’s an enchanted forest in dress form! Isn’t it just lovely? This Warehouse number is rather magical and I for one am pining for it.
Ring ring – it’s your bank manager on the phone. He wants to know why you’ve spent a small fortune on novelty dresses. Oops! How is one supposed to resist such marvelous prints though? These Ted Baker telephones are calling my name! It’s also available in navy blue if you, like me, are prone to spilling mulled wine down everything.
Masters of the perfect print, Palava, have totally nailed the ultimate Christmas day frock with this ravishing red number. How beautiful are those illustrated Christmas trees? It’s the most lovely festive scene and I want to twirl around it immediately.
And finally, courtesy of Lindy Bop, a dress perfect for all seasons! Who doesn’t want to wear a space scene featuring dogs in flying saucers? A BORING PERSON, THAT’S WHO.
