70's Dress with Fluted Sleeve in Retro Print £38 from ASOS
70’s Dress with Fluted Sleeve in Retro Print £38 from ASOS

First up we have this massive sleeved wonder dress from ASOS. It’s yellow, it’s 70’s and it went in my basket the moment I set eyes on it! I wasn’t sure if I could pull off the style but for under £40 I thought it was worth a go! You can see how I got on with my newly flared arms over on our Instagram

Heart Print Dress £119 by Rachel Riley at House of Fraser
Heart Print Dress £119 by Rachel Riley at House of Fraser

Uhoh, I’ve fallen head over heels for Rachel Riley‘s dresses! And no, before you starting Googling, it’s not the one from Countdown….although there are still some rather large numbers involved sadly! Much like our beloved Poppy, Rachel Riley design beautiful clothes for children but, as I have now discovered, they also have a range of wonderful pieces for ladies. Stocked over at House of Fraser, I am now obsessed with their vintage inspired prints and shapes! What a conundrum for my bank balance.

Mocha Floral Dress £59 from Louche at Joy
Mocha Floral Dress £59 from Louche at Joy

You can’t go wrong with a sassy splash of colour and this loud and proud floral from Louche at Joy is screaming Summer! That shade of green is particularly lovely and the reds, yellows and blues really pop when set against it. Gorgeous!

Carnation Blossoms Midi Dress £39.22 (sale price - full price is £46.13) from Chicwish
Carnation Blossoms Midi Dress £39.22 (sale price – full price is £46.13) from Chicwish

Be still my beating heart, what is this glorious Chicwish creation? It is simply perfect. The colours, the carnation print, those sleeves! Not to mention the super flattering cut and the cute little button up detail. Plus I always appreciate a nice belt. It makes me feel like I’m getting a free gift.  I really might need a lie down.

Raddery Dress £59.50 from Jack Wills
Raddery Dress £59.50 from Jack Wills

I do love a nice nautical and this is such a fab vintage style print from Jack Wills, featuring little sail boats, delightful old bridges, and what appears to be a man fishing from the comfort of his canoe. This dress is actually available in a different style on ASOS but I really love this take on the traditional skater dress. The fanned out skirt has perfect twirling potential!

Haute Flair Balloon Dress $79.99 from Modcloth
Haute Flair Balloon Dress $79.99 from Modcloth

I am always on the look out for hot air balloon prints (who isn’t) so you can imagine the gasping that happened when this little beauty appeared on Modcloth! I practically took off! I’d love it whatever but the adorable bow, the gorgeous teal and magenta hues, and the simple A-line shape really do make this one a winner for me.

Cowboy Sleeveless Dress £65 from Cath Kidston
Cowboy Sleeveless Dress £65 from Cath Kidston

Last but not least is a dress that has been a long time coming! The cowboy print from Cath Kidston was one of the first of theirs that I truly fell in love with and it has always distressed me slightly that I’ve never been able to own a dress in the print. Well, consider me distressed no more as I was very happy to find this beauty in their latest collection! Yeehaw!

River Fish Cotton Dress with Shirred Waist £60 by Cath Kidston

River Fish Mono Cotton Beach Dress £55 from Cath Kidston
River Fish Mono Cotton Beach Dress £55 from Cath Kidston

Oh my cod, things are certainly getting a bit cray cray at Cath Kidston HQ thanks to their delightful new river inspired prints! As a self-confessed CK addict, I have naturally fallen hook, line and sinker for all things underwater! I am loving the colourful fish number with its shirred waist (as seen on the cloud dress) but how beautiful does the blue and white sundress look? I think Summer 2015 is going to be the time and plaice for fishy fashion!

Honolulu Print Prom Dress £59.50 from Oliver Bonas
Honolulu Print Prom Dress £59.50 from Oliver Bonas

Surfs up! I love this fab new Hawaiian inspired prom dress from Oliver Bonas, which has a gorgeous pastel pallet and features some very lovely surfers riding the waves. I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be accessoried with sunglasses, a beach and a Pina Colada. That’s what I’ll be doing anyway.

Iris Shirt Dress in Red Graphic Geo £79 from Boden
Iris Shirt Dress in Red Graphic Geo £79 from Boden

I am all about shirt dresses at the moment and this 1950’s inspired number from Boden is ticking all the rights boxes. That geo print is just retro heaven and the whole thing just looks fantastically flattering. I would happily trot into work in this first thing and then head straight out for drinks in it come 5. Living the dream…

Gretal Stripe Sundress £55 by Louche from Joy
Gretal Stripe Sundress £55 by Louche from Joy

This is possibly the most cheerful dress I’ve ever seen but, gosh darn it, who doesn’t love a bright, multi-coloured chevron dress? It also has super deep pockets so you can store extra sunglasses for your friends to borrow when they realise they can’t look directly at you. Excellent summer dress work, Louche.

How Sweet Cactus Dress in White £45 by Somedays Lovin' from Urban Outfitters
How Sweet Cactus Dress in White £45 by Somedays Lovin’ from Urban Outfitters

I didn’t know the cactus was able to look so pretty but Australian brand Somedays Lovin’ have created this super lovely print featuring a whole prickly bunch of them! I really love the laid back style of this dress and look forward to floating around in it on a hot day (did someone say something about a beach and a pina colada?).

Wild at Heart Dress £55 from There's Only One Amy Laws
Wild at Heart Dress £55 from There’s Only One Amy Laws

We always adore anything by Amy Laws and this 1950’s style floral affair is no exception! The dusky blue colour of the dress is gorgeous and who doesn’t want foxgloves growing around their hemline?

Dolores Doll Atomic Flamingo Print Dress £60 from Collectif
Dolores Doll Atomic Flamingo Print Dress £60 from Collectif

I thought the pom poms of last week were possibly going to be my Double Thumbs Dresses highlight of the year but here I find myself typing the words ‘atomic flamingo print’ and now I not so sure! This Collectif dress is brilliantly bonkers and features an array of watermelons, bannanas, pineapples and ummm ATOMIC FLAMINGOS (??!!). It might be the best thing I’ve ever seen.

Double Thumbs Dresses #55

Hello dear reader! Welcome back to Double Thumbs Dresses, our roundup of the frocks we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted double thumbs seal of approval. I can tell you hand on heart that this, the 55th edition, has truly tested the limits of my bank balance. Send help.

Print Me Pretty Dress Paris £68.80 from Miss Patina
Print Me Pretty Dress Paris £68.80 from Miss Patina

Or, preferably, send me this dress! I can’t even bring myself to look at the Miss Patina website at the moment for fear of the damage I might do. Everything is just so incredibly beautiful! This Parisian print is my pick of the bunch thanks to that super adorable illustration. What an Eiffel.

French Market dress £89.95 by Joules
French Market dress £89.95 by Joules from John Lewis

Oui oui! I am obviously taking my inspiration from the French as this market town print dress from Joules is also pickling my onions. How dreamy is that 50’s shape? and the colours are simply gorgeous.

Daisy Spray Beach Dress £50 from Cath Kidston
Daisy Spray Beach Dress £50 from Cath Kidston

It’s bright yellow, it’s got polka dots AND it’s Cath Kidston…..what’s not to love? I’m slightly obsessed with those thick straps and the polka dots are, prepare to sound the twee klaxon, actually super cute daisies! Oh CK, you sure do know the way to my floral loving heart. I think this is the perfect dress for Summer.

Beach hut short sleeve shirt dress £40 by Brakeburn
Beach hut short sleeve shirt dress £40 by Brakeburn from House of Fraser

I’ve been waiting ages for a good beach hut print (I know, I know, haven’t we all) and one has finally appeared thanks to Brakeburn. I love this little shirt shift dress (easy for you to say) as the short sleeves, little collar and tie waist make it super easy to wear!

Parasol Print Dress £22 from TU
Parasol Print Dress £22 from TU

There’s nothing shady about this parasol print dress from TU although you will have to leave your house in order to obtain it as it’s not available online. Boo you, Sainsbury’s! It’s a gorgeous print though and I love the the green and blues together. Let’s just hope it hasn’t para-sold out (sorry).

Dress With All Over Pom Pom Print & Detail £65 by Lazy Oaf
Dress With All Over Pom Pom Print & Detail £65 by Lazy Oaf from ASOS

Pom pom hem! This Lazy Oaf dress has an actual pom pom hem! Made out of pom poms! If Victoria and I ever decide we need blogger nicknames I am totally having ‘pom pom hem’ as mine. What a thing! Even aside from the whole pom pom hem thing, this dress is obviously brilliant with an all over multicoloured pom pom print. POM POM.

Barcelona Dress £39 by Louche from Joy
Barcelona Dress £39 by Louche from Joy

I adore this red 50’s inspired dress from Louche. It looks so pretty and I love the detail that has gone into the print and the beautiful looking hem, which is apparently a unique broderie analgise hem dontchaknow. Whatever it is it’s lovely and it looks very flattering too!

Sing For Your Summer Dress £55 by Trollied Dolly
Sing For Your Summer Dress £55 by Trollied Dolly

Last but not least we have a Trollied Dolly strawberry dress that is ripe for picking! It’s certainly a berry good print and looks lovely set against the peachy tone of the dress. I would definitely accessorise this one with lashings of cream!

Log Ladies

She and Hem | Log Ladies | Emily and Fin

Happy Easter everyone! We hope you are all suitably stuffed with chocolate and are now enjoying a nice relaxing food coma on the sofa. That’s what we’ll be doing for the foreseeable future and pretty darn great it is too. However, before we consumed an unreasonable amount of sugar, we went on a rather lovely sunny stroll around the neighborhood to take some outfit snaps featuring a couple of beautiful new Emily and Fin dresses.

She and Hem | Log Ladies | Emily and Fin She and Hem | Log Ladies | Emily and Fin She and Hem | Log Ladies | Emily and Fin

Emily and Fin always do such wonderful shapes but we were both really keen to try out the ‘Jessica’ which is in a lovely sleeveless shirt style with concealed buttons all the way down the front of the dress. We had both commented that this style of dress was perhaps a little different for us and with both prints available in different shapes we were a little worried we had put all of our Easter eggs in one basket (boom boom). We needn’t have worried though as the ‘Jessica’ is the most flattering cut and the shirt detailing with the tailored collar is a delight. We are both rather in love, especially at it also has concealed pockets! Perfect for stuffing your chocolate wrappers in.

The vintage inspired prints are, as always with Emily and Fin, completely stunning with Victoria’s western inspired Green Cowboys dress* looking yee-hawt when teamed with her denim jacket from Waxen at Joy*. She accessorised simply with a brown belt from Accessorize and brown ankle boots from Clarks, which perfectly complimented the colours and western style of the dress. Victoria likes a bit of ranch dressing, you might say. I (Jo) teamed my gorgeous Vintage Hawaiian print dress* with a super bright pink jacket from Louche at Joy* which I think looks great set against the delightful blues of the dress. I continued my brights theme with a yellow woven clutch from Boden* and finished off with a gold belt and some trusty patent shoes from Faith. I like a bit of island dressing, you might say.

After doing a lot of fashion-easter posing, we rewarded ourselves with Easter cakes, coffee and games(!) at The Bristolian cafe before stumbling across the most wonderful Alice in Wonderland graffiti on our walk home. We couldn’t help but take a few (hundred) more snaps!

Jump for Joy on New Year’s Eve

She and Hem | Jump for JoyShe and Hem | Jump for JoyShe and Hem | Jump for Joy

New Year’s Eve is THE night to get seriously sparkly. Whether you are planning a big night throwing shapes to Taylor Swift or a night in with friends with hot dogs and the Hootenanny, it is perfectly acceptable to go all out fancy! Sequins, sheer and sparkles, we just can’t get enough! When the clock strikes twelve, we want to be the girls reflecting off of the glitter ball.

Not only does this post feature balloons, bunting and bubbles but also our perfect New Year’s Eve party frocks. Victoria choose the zingy neon pink metallic Cyrus dress* and Jo picked the gorgeous fit and flare style Prova Heart dress*, both from Louche at Joy. Joyous! Victoria’s white tights are from UK Tights*, worn with gold heels from Office and a mighty mouse clutch from Primark. Jo’s glimmering gold glitter tights are from Topshop, worn with a black and gold cardigan from Fever*, gold heels from Dune and an exceptionally photogenic camera bag from Accessorize.

Happy New Year!

A big thank you to Cox and Baloney for letting us take over their snug for our early celebrations.

Double Thumbs Dresses #47

Hello hello! It’s DT time again! Our roundup of the dresses we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted She and Hem Double Thumbs seal of approval. Let’s begin!

Glittering Trinkets Tunic £149
Glittering Trinkets Tunic £149 from Ted Baker at John Lewis

Holy baubles Batman, things are about to get FESTIVE! How beautiful is this trinkets print dress by Ted Baker? And would you look at that embellished collar? Stunning. It makes me want to put up my Christmas tree immediately. I love everything about it. Apart from the price, obviously.

Embellished Collar Prom Dress £60
Embellished Collar Prom Dress £60 from ASOS

Speaking of embellished collars, ding dong ASOS have brought out a stunner. It even has matching capped sleeves. Swoon! Those gem stones are just beautiful and look perfect set against the plain nude colour of the scuba dress. I’d move fast if you like it as I don’t think this little beauty will stick around for long (by this I mean that my size is already out of stock *SOBS*).

Brocade Paisley Shift £65 from Topshop
Brocade Paisley Shift £65 from Topshop

I made the mistake of watching the Cara Topshop video and now I want everything. And to be Cara. But that’s something we’ll address at an appropriate time. Anyway, this shift dress looks so great when teamed with a white blouse (and supermodel)  plus it has diamante pockets. I think we’ve established that I am enjoying a little embellishment right now.

Julita Deer Dress £65
Julita Deer Dress £65 from Louche at Joy
Deer Print Dress £59.50 by Poem at Oliver Bonas
Deer Print Dress £59.50 by Poem at Oliver Bonas

I don’t know, you wait all year for a deer print dress and then two come along at once. Typical. I spotted the Louche frock in Joy Bath last week whilst out shopping with Victoria and new instantly it was destined to be on Double Thumbs. The cartoon style print is SO cute and it’s the perfect alternative to a novelty Christmas jumper. It reminded Victoria of Bambi and me of Babycham. I’m not sure what this says about either of us but I think I come off worse. If you prefer your deers to be a bit more serious then the beautiful Oliver Bonas tea dress may be the frock for you, although they have described it as a “conversational deer” which made me laugh more than was perhaps necessary. The good news is neither dress is too, errr, dear.

Graduate Fashion Week Belted Disney Villains Dress £30 from George at Asda

I was already pretty in love with this George dress even before I realised it was part of a Disney villains (yes, really) inspired range. I mean, seriously, that’s pretty damn cool ASDA. The sizes keep going in and out of stock online so it might be one to hunt down in-store, perhaps take a couple of hapless henchmen to help.

Katy Dress £49 from Sugarhill Boutique

I do so enjoy a sheer polka-dot (I mean, who doesn’t?) so this sixties style Sugarhill Boutique number is right up my street. I tend to go a bit crazy at this time of year with the glittery accessories and a dress like this is the perfect base to throw all the shiny things at. Party!

Beautiful Floral Printed Midi Prom Dress £85
Beautiful Floral Printed Midi Prom Dress £85 from ASOS

For as long as ASOS keep bringing out their super pretty, super flattering off the shoulder style prom dresses, I’m going to keep featuring them. Just so we’re clear, this is perfect.

Fox and Feather Fashion Party for CLIC Sargent

She and Hem | Fox and Feather Fashion Party | BristolShe and Hem | Fox and Feather Fashion Party | Bristol

This past Friday night, we attended a charity event held at Fox and Feather in Bristol, and not even the pouring rain could dampen our gleeful end of the week spirits. The Gloucester Road shop is one of our favourites, and you can often find us in there swooning over goodies from Sugarhill BoutiqueDahliaLoucheGoldie and many more!

During the night, Fox and Feather held a fashion show to showcase their new Autumn Winter Collection, whilst stylists from a.k.a Hairdressing, also on Gloucester Road, unveiled new AW14 colours and gave some top tips on matters pertaining to that all important Christmas party hair do. All of the profits from the evening were in aid of a charity close to our hearts, CLIC Sargent, so we were more than happy to buy lots of raffle tickets. And it’s a good job we did, as Jo won a gorgeous mustard jumper. Here are some of our favourite outfits from the night, all available from Fox and Feather.

Putting the Win in Winter: Coats

I don’t know if you’ve noticed but the weather seems to have waved a fond farewell to sunshine and warmth and replaced it with rain, wind and a brisk chill. This is, of course, brilliant news as it means we can all finally justify buying those coats we’ve been stroking in shops since mid August. Marvelous. Here are some of our current favourites…

The Katy Coat £95.00
The Katy Coat £95 from Oasis

First up is this dreamy oversized blazer fit coat from Oasis. I adore the natural colour but if you want to be totally jazzy, it also comes in very bright shades of orange and yellow.

Forever 21 appears to be THE place to go for budget friendly winter coats. The above also comes in black and camel but they have a pretty enjoyable selection of plaid too.

Ronnie Coat £125
Ronnie Coat £125 by Louche at John Lewis

I think this gorgeous Louche number might be my current most coveted coat. I adore the pink, which thankfully seems to be still a big trend for 2014, but it also comes in a rather fetching shade of blue.

Check Coat £95
Check Coat £95 from Warehouse

This Warehouse coat is neatly ticking the pink, plaid and pockets boxes. Plus I do love a brushed fabric. It makes up for the fact I don’t own a cat.

Dolly Coat £33 (was £70) from ASOS
Dolly Coat £33 (was £70) from ASOS

I really rate the ASOS Dolly style coats, having bought one this time last year, and so I thought this was a bit of a bargain. I really like the ice blue colour above but, for a £16 extra, it also comes in the bright raspberry.

Frances Coat £110
Frances Coat £110 by Sugarhill Boutique at House of Fraser

If you like this sixties style Sugarhill Boutique number with its lovely fluffy collar and velvet (I think?) detailing then I suggest you step on it as it seems to be rapidly going out of stock.

Iris Dress Coat £129.99 from Fever
Iris Dress Coat £129.99 from Fever

The more I stare at this Fever coat the more convinced I am that we are meant to be together. Beautiful colour, beautiful collar and the perfect coat shape.

Swing Coat with Contrast Faux Fur Collat £85 from ASOS
Swing Coat with Contrast Faux Fur Collat £85 from ASOS

Last but not least is this lovely swing coat from ASOS. I think the swing style is super cute and flattering – plus it would totally hide any extra roast dinners! Good work, fashion. It’s also available in pink.
