We kick off with this groovy little number from Louche. Those big yellow blooms certainly cut the mustard for me and you’ll be living life full on flower power with those awesome sleeves and nipped in waist.

A-Line Striped Dress £29.99 from Zara
A-Line Striped Dress £29.99 from Zara

Time to stripe a pose in this affordable frock from Zara, which I believe is ticking off at least three SS16 trends. I am loving the cheeky chevron action up top and hidden round the back there are some delightful little buttons for you to faff around with every time you put it on/take it off.

Cherry Blossom Dress £45 from Miss Selfridge

Cupid's Heart Printed Dress £42.41 from Chicwish
Cupid’s Heart Printed Dress £42.41 from Chicwish

Heart prints are inevitably cropping up all over the shop at the moment but this Chicwish number has really caught my eye. The colours are just great and, to me at least, it has a slight Kate Spade feel to it without the Kate Spade price-tag. Winner!

Rajaa Whale Print Dress £49 from Louche

You’ll have a whale of a time in this Louche dress which whaley does has a totally excellent print that channels the deep blue sea in colour and theme!

Stop Thief! Sleeveless Dress £55 by Cath Kidston

When we visited the Cath Kidston AW14 press day a couple of weeks back we spent a lot of time fawning over their forthcoming prints and have been eagerly awaiting their arrival. I am therefore pleased to report that the Just In section of their website is currently a VERY EXCITING PLACE for an abundance of the new pieces have arrived, including both Clocks and Stop Thief! in delightful dress from! I really can’t decide which is my favourite, the charming vintage style of Clocks or the playful fun of Stop Thief! Time to hide my debit card.

Padstow Print Prom Dress £59.50 from Oliver Bonas
Padstow Print Prom Dress £59.50 from Oliver Bonas

How unbelievably gorgeous is this dress by Poem at Oliver Bonas? I did a little gasp when it arrived in my inbox. Firstly, I love Padstow so this dress was a winner before I had even looked at it properly. However, when I did have a closer inspection I discovered the prettiest print of pastel houses(!) and cute yachts! It’s all a bit dreamy.

Molly Macaron Smock Dress £55 by Mod Dolly
Molly Macaron Smock Dress £55 by Mod Dolly

Time for some macaron madness courtesy of Mod Dolly! I love this sweet loose fitting smock dress, especially with that gorgeous empire collar. I know I shouldn’t say this in a dress roundup but they also have this print in possibly the best two piece ever. Sorry, dresses.

Dolores Dress Summer Bouquet £65
Dolores Dress Summer Bouquet £65 by Collectif from Aspire Style

I hadn’t heard of Collectif before their dresses started appearing on the Aspire Style website by my goodness they are all about the twirly dress perfection. This super summery floral dress is just stunning. Look at those adorable buttons!

Unicorn Dress £46
Unicorn Dress £46 from Sugarhill Boutique

The new Sugarhill Boutique collection is making me very happy at the moment! So much pretty! I really love this handdrawn unicorn print which I think looks especially lovely against that dusky blue colour. Plus, you can always count on SB for a good sleeve.

Womens Printed Shirt Dress £14 from Peacocks

And last but not least is the bargain of the week from Peacocks! I love a good shirt dress and the gorgeous vibant florals make this one a really winner. I usually find Peacocks dresses to be a decent length too, making them perfect for work.

Outfit of the Day: Spring in to Florals

“Florals? For spring? Ground breaking.” – Miranda Priestly

So, we know we aren’t introducing a revolutionary new trend here, but some things are just supposed to go together, like Fred and Ginger, Fred and Barney and Fred and George Weasley. Floral patterns in Springtime just go, ok? Although neither of us wear shirts very often, we absolutely could not resist these United Colours of Benetton printed beauties. Like Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, they just look so good together! Caution, this post contains more flowers than your Grandma’s favourite garden centre.

While I was pulling about a billion items out of my wardrobe to wear with this very pink Benetton shirt*, the above Primark skirt was a bit of a ‘This will never go, but what the hell, let’s try it!’ eureka moment. It’s not a subtle outfit that’s for sure, but after our little photo session, I really fell in love with the whole look. I can’t blinking wait to wear it again now the weather is fine and dandy. The red belt is from New Look, the pastel bracelet is from Accessorize and the blue sunglasses are also Primark.

Jo teamed her lilac floral shirt, also from Benetton*, with cute polka-dot shorts from Miss Selfridge, shoes from Primark and a black belt from ASOS. Her lush peach glasses, which get compliments wherever we go, are from Topshop.  You wouldn’t catch us without our heart sunglasses, which you can find at Amazon!

With all that posing, I think we’ve earned a treat, so let’s all scoff some Easter chocolate in the sunshine!

Outfit of the Day: Winter Pastels

Last weekend I popped back to my old stomping ground of Bath for a January pick-me-up day. Bath is extremely good for the soul, it’s so beautiful and charming and spending a day there never fails to put me in a good mood. James and I spent the day doing a few of my favourite Bath related activities which nicely recreated many of the days we spent whilst I was living there. This involved a cream tea, a stroll along the beautiful canal path and then more food and drink from some of the various delicious eateries dotted around the fair city. I said it was good for the soul, not the waistline! Yum!

Despite saying that I didn’t want to visit any of the shops, I did end up having a cheeky gander in Topshop. I have been after a new pastel coat (I’m so trendy) and was really keen to see the mint one that I wrote about here. On passing the sale rail I caught sight of a coat which I had previously tried (and failed) to buy  both online and instore and couldn’t believe that it was my size! I did a very embarrassing clap/jump/squeal thing which I reserve especially for such triumphant moments. It is the perfect coat AND it was half price. I did end up trying on the mint one too, for comparisons sake obviously, and it was no contest. It’s much more fitted and the colour is beautiful. My family actually had a great debate about the colour. It’s mauve, right? Continue reading Outfit of the Day: Winter Pastels

Outfit of the Day: A Vintage Pink Coat

pink coat 1

I believe there is something positively magical about taking a piece of clothing that already has it’s own history, and maybe a few more miles on the clock than yourself, and restyling it to give it a whole new lease of life!

While I have a tenderness for trends and am particularly prone to pastels, when it comes to fashion it is nice and novel to have an item that nobody else has. So when I found this vintage pink coat recently I was truly tickled pink and had to shout it from the mountain tops! Unfortunately we don’t have many mountains in Bristol, so I made do with the nearest hill…

Putting the Win in Winter: Coats

Floody hell it’s cold…and wet…and really really grim outside. I’ve decided that the best thing to do is hibernate and look at pretty coats on the Internet (and eat my body weight in chocolate but that’s by the by). Here are my current coat crushes.

Pink Fit and Flare Coat £40 by F&F

PINK COAT! PINK COAT! Remember ages ago when we were all shoving each other over in the street in order to get hold of a pink coat? Well, so do F&F who have cunningly brought out this stunning fit and flare number. It has lots of lovely details, such as that vintage inspired Peter Pan collar, and the price is very nice too.

Textured Swing Coat £89 from Topshop

This is my current top coat crush and comes courtesy of the ever bank balance raiding, Topshop. My only concern is that it won’t be fitted enough but, hey, after all that chocolate I’m eating perhaps it’ll do me a few favours.

London Checked Double-Breasted Coat £156 (was £195) from French Connection

As with most French Connection coats this one leaves me dribbling over my keyboard. How cute is this? I love everything about it and if it – by some miracle – comes under the £100 mark, might cause me some spending issues.

Flocked Woollen Cloth Coat £49.99 (was £59.99) from Pull & Bear

Pull & Bear is a brand that’s fairly new to me but I’m constantly impressed by the quality and affordability of their pieces. This coat is lovely and would go with pretty much anything. It also has huge pockets. Absolutely huge. Continue reading Putting the Win in Winter: Coats

All Hail the Sale

We are only two days in to January and I am already struggling to contain my willpower when it comes to the sales. After indulging so much over Christmas, it always seems crazy to splurge on new things in the New Year but with so many massive discounts around it can be very hard to resist. I’ve rounded up my current wish-list and will be keeping a beady eye out for further reductions. Those of you who follow us on Instagram will know that I have already caved and bought the Topshop shoes! So shiny.

Double Thumbs Dresses #22

Dress fans rejoice! For I am back (finally, right?) with another round up of dresses deemed worthy enough of the highly coveted She and Hem Double Thumbs seal of approval. If any of my loved ones are reading this, the answer is yes. Yes please.

Scenic Print Jacquard Dress £36.91 from Chicwish

I’ve been coveting this lovely Chicwish dress for a while but now that it’s on sale it would almost be ridiculous not to buy it. It has pretty much everything I look for in a dress. Lovely long sleeves, a pretty neckline, a full skirt and a beautiful print. There is so much detailing on this dress, it’s actually rather overwhelming – in a good way. Even the white parts of the dress are subject to a jacquard embossed print. I say.

Stripe Prom Dress £80 from Topshop
Stripe Prom Dress £80 from Topshop

Ooof, I do love a prom dress and this black and pink striped number from Topshop is super duper pretty.

Velvet Spangle Collar Dress £62.00 from The White Pepper
Velvet Spangle Collar Dress £62.00 from The White Pepper

It has been great to see such an abundance of lovely velvet dresses around of late but this one from The White Pepper is definitely my pick of the bunch. It is a gorgeous colour and the fun trapeze  shape will totally lend itself to some Christmas party twirling. The thing that sets it apart however is the beautiful, and detachable, gold spangle collar. You can’t go wrong with a bit of detachable spangle.

Polka Dot Dress £35.99 from Zara

Mustard! Polka Dots! Sleeves! Pockets! It’s like Zara have a She and Hem dream dress crib sheet. This is a pretty impressive frock.

She and Home: The Little Mermaid

There’s just something so magical about visiting the theatre at Christmas time, so when A Little Bristol asked us if we would like to attend the opening night of Bristol Old Vic’s production of The Little Mermaid, we jumped at the chance.

You can read our full review here but lets just say that it is a truly spectacular show and fully lived up to the dizzying highs of last years’ Peter Pan – of which I still find myself (Jo) singing the songs from. If you are in/around Bristol then it is most definitely one to go and see. We certainly left with a Christmassy glow and, no, it wasn’t because of the wine. Cheeky.

We were completely smitten with the enchanting tale of the pursuit of true love. The Little Mermaid, played by our new girl crush Katie Moore, is as graceful as can be. She makes every move appear elegant and poised, even when being carried around the stage by her fellow cast members. She’s certainly one to watch, a future starlet for sure!
