Bristol Fashion Week SS15: Oasis Preview

Bristol Fashion Week SS15: Oasis Preview Bristol Fashion Week SS15: Oasis Preview

Hold on to your fedoras folks as Bristol Fashion Week kicks off next week at The Mall at Cribbs Causeway! BFW is always jam packed with fabulous high-street fashion and is a great opportunity to pick up on some top styling tips, as well as potentially spotting the odd celeb! It’s going to be a treat! We were therefore mega-excited when The Mall and Oasis invited us to come into their store and style an outfit based on the trends we will be seeing on one of the 17 catwalk shows that will be happening over five fashion-fueled days! A sneak peak at Fashion Week, as it were.

Along with fellow lovely bloggers Megan from Briar Rose and Tara from The Style Rawr, we were let loose amongst the rails of Oasis at The Mall to put together our on-trend attire. Megan, Tara, and I (Jo) all flocked to the stunning monochrome pieces from the new Shadow Floral collection and raced back to the changing rooms. There was a rather bloggerific moment where we all pulled back the curtains to find ourselves in matching outfits! Can you blame us though? That monochrome duster is dreamy. Meanwhile, marching to the beat of her own fashionable drum, Victoria had bee-lined straight to her own monochrome ensemble choosing the fab Retro Flower Geo Print trousers and teaming them with the Libby Trimmed Crepe Tee. She added a pop of colour with a sunshine yellow Ponte Jacket and Cassie Courts and in doing so managed to nail two trends in one! What a pro.

Bristol Fashion Week SS15: Oasis Preview Bristol Fashion Week SS15: Oasis Preview Bristol Fashion Week SS15: Oasis Preview

I decided on a quick change of style in order to mix things up and thought, as we have dabbled in pastels, florals, and seventies trends quite a lot recently, I would try my hand at embracing denim! I quickly nabbed the pretty Dita dress and proceeded to walk around the store like a lost lamb not knowing what on earth to team with it. Thankfully the lovely personal stylist at the store, Charlotte, recognised the fear in my eyes and within minutes had me wearing the most beautiful Suki Embroidered Fringe kimono and black ankle boots. She was like some sort of clothes wizard. I would never have chosen a kimono if left to my own devices but I loved it the moment I put it on!

Thanks for looking after us, Oasis! We are now suitably stylish and totally trendy enough to attend Bristol Fashion Week. Which is just as well really as Lucy Watson from Made in Chelsea is going to be hosting this year, along with regular host TV Stylist Mark Heyes, and she is not a lady we wish to disappoint! Big thanks also to Cafe Rouge for the yummy food and bubbly beforehand!

Bristol Fashion Week runs from 25th-29th March and you can find out more information and book your tickets here.

Putting the Win in Winter: Coats

I don’t know if you’ve noticed but the weather seems to have waved a fond farewell to sunshine and warmth and replaced it with rain, wind and a brisk chill. This is, of course, brilliant news as it means we can all finally justify buying those coats we’ve been stroking in shops since mid August. Marvelous. Here are some of our current favourites…

The Katy Coat £95.00
The Katy Coat £95 from Oasis

First up is this dreamy oversized blazer fit coat from Oasis. I adore the natural colour but if you want to be totally jazzy, it also comes in very bright shades of orange and yellow.

Kelsey Coat £125 from Louche at Joy
Kelsey Coat £125 from Louche at Joy

You won’t get the hump about the cold in this luxurious vintage camel number from Louche. If that faux fur doesn’t get you, the lining will – it’s covered in super cute animals!

Colette Coat £99
Colette Coat £99 by Hell Bunny at Aspire Style

Go dotty for this spotty retro Hell Bunny number. Giant buttons and pockets are clearly the way forward.

Stand Collar Swing Coat £19 from Forever 21
Stand Collar Swing Coat £19 from Forever 21

Forever 21 appears to be THE place to go for budget friendly winter coats. The above also comes in black and camel but they have a pretty enjoyable selection of plaid too.

Ronnie Coat £125
Ronnie Coat £125 by Louche at John Lewis

I think this gorgeous Louche number might be my current most coveted coat. I adore the pink, which thankfully seems to be still a big trend for 2014, but it also comes in a rather fetching shade of blue.

Check Coat £95
Check Coat £95 from Warehouse

This Warehouse coat is neatly ticking the pink, plaid and pockets boxes. Plus I do love a brushed fabric. It makes up for the fact I don’t own a cat.

Dolly Coat £33 (was £70) from ASOS
Dolly Coat £33 (was £70) from ASOS

I really rate the ASOS Dolly style coats, having bought one this time last year, and so I thought this was a bit of a bargain. I really like the ice blue colour above but, for a £16 extra, it also comes in the bright raspberry.

Frances Coat £110

If you like this sixties style Sugarhill Boutique number with its lovely fluffy collar and velvet (I think?) detailing then I suggest you step on it as it seems to be rapidly going out of stock.

Iris Dress Coat £129.99 from Fever

Last but not least is this lovely swing coat from ASOS. I think the swing style is super cute and flattering – plus it would totally hide any extra roast dinners! Good work, fashion. It’s also available in pink.

Double Thumbs Dresses #36

Hello and welcome back to Double Thumbs, our bank busting roundup of frocks we consider worthy of the highly coveted She and Hem Double Thumbs seal of approval. Creme Cafe Print £74.95 from Joules
Creme Botanic Print £69.95
Creme Botanic Print £69.95 from Joules

We start with not one but two pretty dresses from Joules (aff). Both feature charming prints, with a hand drawn vintage inspired cafe/picnic scene and botanical design respectively. Does the second dress remind anyone else of a Britannica Encyclopedia entry? Just me then. It’s lovely though, right? Both dresses are so summery and cool. Get in my wardrobe!

Printed Dress with Wide Straps £59.99 from Zara
Printed Dress with Wide Straps £59.99 from Zara
Elastic Waist Dress £39.99
Elastic Waist Dress £39.99 from Zara

Another double entry! This time from Zara who are also nailing the summer dress. Both look to be my favourite sort of frock in that you could simply throw either of them on with a pair of sandals and be ready to party. Never let it be said that I’m not ready to party.

Pineapple Crush Tea Dress £55
Pineapple Crush Tea Dress £55 from Sugarhill Boutique

I’m a big fan of the brightness of this lovely fitted sundress from Sugarhill Boutique! If people are going to wear sunglasses, you may as well dress as loudly as possible eh? Has anyone else noticed the sudden prevalence of pineapple prints? Surely the fruit print of 2014.

No Peep™ Heart Print Shift Dress £45
No Peep™ Heart Print Shift Dress £45

Marks and Spencer are really bringing the pretty at the moment. If Fifties pastel loveliness is your thing (hi), then I would suggest you go take a gander at their website. My current crush is this lovely apricot shirt dress which M&S describe as not being overly feminine. Whatevs, guys.

Multi Stripe Viscose Dress £45

This Oasis dress is super sweet! I love the candy cane colours, the slightly drunk looking stripes and that lovely nipped in waist. I couldn’t find this particular dress on their website but it is available from John Lewis.

Designer Navy Sunglasses Print Dress £32

Henry Holland is always a good bet for a novelty print and this adorable sunglasses adorned frock is no exception. You can find this retro inspired dress at Debenhams.

Double Thumbs Dresses #34

Hello hello! It’s time for another roundup of the dresses we have deemed worthy of the highly coveted Double Thumbs seal of approval. This week even includes two of your recommended seven a day. You are very welcome.

Lemon Print Dress £18 from Tu Clothing At Sainsbury's
Lemon Print Dress £18 from Tu Clothing at Sainsbury’s

Fruity frock number one comes courtesy of TU at Sainsbury’s! I spotted this one over on A Million Dresses blog and quickly fell for its vintage charm and that pricetag. Hello! I then proceeded to have a slight dress meltdown when I discovered that you can no longer order TU items online (it’s 2014 Sainsbury’s. I expect to at least be able to click + collect) but I needn’t have worried as my lovely Mum (Hi Mum) came to my rescue and picked one up for me. Apparently they are running quite low on certain sizes so GO NOW. RIGHT NOW.

Ditta Pineapple Dress £49 by Louche from Joy
Ditta Pineapple Dress £49 by Louche from Joy

But, hey, if you can’t be bothered to go to Sainsbury’s or you simply don’t fancy being a right lemon, Louche are here with some delightful pineapples. Available from wonder store, Joy, this lovely dress is just begging to be worn in the sunshine.  Perhaps whilst holding an outlandish cocktail.

Dress in Alice in Wonderland Print £205 by Paul & Joe Sister Exclusive to ASOS
Dress in Alice in Wonderland Print £205 by Paul & Joe Sister Exclusive to ASOS

I can’t afford this Alice in Wonderland (!!!) print Paul & Joe Sister dress but that hasn’t stopped me from adding it to my ASOS saved list in some ridiculous hope that one day it might be 75% off and I’ll have a discount code. A girl can dream.

Florida Bloom Mesh Dress £150 from French Connection
Florida Bloom Mesh Dress £150 from French Connection

The new French Connection collection is something to behold but I instantly fell for this super floaty fit and flare dress. What a hot mesh.

Daisy Jacquard Dress £70 from Oasis
Daisy Jacquard Dress £70 from Oasis

You might have already spotted this lovely daisy dress from Oasis on Taylor Swift as she was pictured wearing it whilst swanning around New York. It must have been high fives and back slaps ahoy at Oasis HQ this week, eh? Anyhoo, Old Swifto went for the navy version but I am personally rather partial to this peachy colour.

*Correction* Taylor was actually wearing this Oasis dress. They are pretty similar though.

Ribbon Detailed Flared Dress £65.00 from Warehouse
Ribbon Detailed Flared Dress £65 from Warehouse

I’ve got a lot of love for this ribbon detailed dress from Warehouse. it sort of reminds me of a May-pole! That’s a good thing. The colours are lovely too.

Macie Dress £85 from Coast

There are some lovely dresses on the Coast website at the moment but I was drawn to the beautiful scenic print featured on this Macie dress. I love those almost spooky looking trees! It’s all rather enchanting.

Bow Back Denim Smock Dress £42 from ASOS
Bow Back Denim Smock Dress £42 from ASOS

And we finish on this fantastic denim bow back dress from ASOS. It looks like it might give you some serious underwear dilemmas but crikey, look at it. It’s got a massive bow on the back! Yes please.

London Fashion Week AW14: Day Two

OOTD6

Morning! We’ve finally hit day two of our time at London Fashion Week. It seems crazy that this was over a week ago now! How time has flown. As you can see, the weather had improved somewhat for our second day of fashion fun, even allowing for some outside photo ops!

OOTD12

We had another bright and early start in order to attend the Orla Kiely showcase at Central Saint Martins. We were so incredibly excited to attend the show and it completely lived up to our expectations. We’ll be blogging about the showcase later this week but, in the meantime, how cute are the personalised coffee cups they were handing out?

Sewing Machine Shift Dress £69.95 by Get Cutie from Thunder Egg

If you’re a regular Double Thumbs reader you will know that I’m never one to shy away from a brilliant novelty print and, just in case you hadn’t noticed, this particular a-line dress from Get Cutie is covered in beautiful sewing machines! It’s sew great! Just like my jokes, which obviously leave you in stitches.

Lucky Cat Dress £37.50 by Rum & Fly from Thunder Egg

Looking at this Rum & Fly dress just makes me so happy. Look at all those waving cats! I like to think they are waving good bye to the money I’ve just spent on dresses.

Birdcage Print Chiffon Tea Dress £45.00 from M&S

It has been a little while since we’ve featured a dress from M&S! Welcome back, guys. I am a big big fan of this very lovely birdcage print tea dress. The colours and style are super pretty and the birdcages are rather beautiful. Plus look at those sleeves! Fabulous. The only bad news is that this is the first dress I have ever wanted from M&S that isn’t part of their Limited Collection. I think this means I’m a real grown up now.

Jacquard-weave dress £34.99 from H&M

I find H&M are very good at sneaking incredible dresses onto their website with little to no fanfare. I could have quite easily missed this rather wonderful frock had it not been for my impressive dress detection methods (Google). Isn’t it great? I love the shape and those blue poka-dots. It just needs a belt and a beret. You heard it here first. Continue reading Double Thumbs Dresses #25

Double Thumbs Dresses #17

Hey Hemsters!

In need of a mid week pick me up? Well look no further than this week’s round up of the dresses deemed deserving of the highly coveted Double Thumbs seal of approval. Warning: this week may contain sparkle.

Floral Jacquard Dress
Floral Jacquard Dress £85 by ‘Loved by Mollie’ for Oasis

I’m not usually one for a celebrity fashion line but I’ll admit my interest was piqued when glossy haired purveyor of short shorts, and Victoria’s style crush, Mollie King threw her fashionable hat into the ring this week with the launch of her Oasis edit. Personally, I was expecting a lot of the aforementioned short shorts plus maybe a nice blazer or two. What I was not expecting was this incredible vintage inspired floral jacquared dress. Holy Moly Mollie, what are you trying to do to me? I just love love LOVE everything about this dress. The  winter floral colours are divine and it looks like it would fit like a dream. Have I mentioned the sleeves? Look at those sleeves! And I’ve managed to get through this entire paragraph without making a single Saturdays joke! Things are looking Up…

Textured Fit and Flare Dress £45 by Poem from Oliver Bonas

You’ll cut the mustard in this, errr, mustard dress from Oliver Bonas‘ in-house collection, Poem. This is the sort of dress that I would wear at least once a week. It’s an absolute A/W staple and I can already think of at least 507 ways I could wear it. Bonus points to Bonas who have teamed it on the website with a lovely big necklace and silver shiny dancing shoes. I think it would look equally as special with big boots and a long chunky cardy.

Limited Edition No Peep™ Faux Pearl Embellished Collar Spotted Shirt Dress - Marks & Spencer
Faux Pearl Embellished Collar Spotted Shirt Dress £45 from Marks and Spencers

You may remember last week that I was dribbling with desire over a rather lovely polka-dot dress that Victoria had pinned over on a Pinterest board (subtle come follow us on Pinterest plug). Well, imagine what happened when I spied this little stunner from M&S? EVEN MORE DRIBBLE THAT’S WHAT. It has a pearl collar for goodness sake! What a triumph. It’s a lovely shape and M&S even promise to maintain your modesty with ‘concealed extra buttons’. However if you read the reviews it apparently comes up rather short. Modesty: unmaintained.

Cross Embellished Skater Dress £85.00 from Topshop

I genuinely thought someone famous was in my local Topshop when I walked in over the weekend. Such was the size of the crowd gathered around the above dress. The website doesn’t even do it justice, it’s simply beautiful and oh so sparkly! Can I mention New Years Eve in October? Probably not. Continue reading Double Thumbs Dresses #17
